I wanted to stay at one of the ryokan north and west of Ueno but they were all booked up. I ended up staying here with my husband and 2 year old. We really liked it. We'd never been to Japan and it was our first stop. We found the hostel no problem. The desk staff were super nice. There was plenty of space in our room and the hostel was quiet. Really, I have no complaints whatsoever. I would recommend this place to anybody--unless they were looking for a loud party atmosphere. We walked to Nakamise-dori to Senso-ji. We walked down Kappabashi-dori and I bought some plastic sushi souvenirs. We went to Kappabashi Coffee and found a nice children's playground right nearby. We ate okonomiyaki at Sometaro. We got ice cream at an ice cream shop across from Tokyo Hongan-ji. My husband walked over to the Sumida River and got a picture of the golden poo--uh, I mean, the Asahi Breweries complex. We even walked over to Ueno Park. There was some kind of shinto festival/event going on at Gojo-jinja... men in loinclothes carrying paper lanterns on long poles... of course I had no idea what was going on. We bought some cut up fruit in Ameyoko Arcade or thereabouts.
