We stayed here for five nights in April. The place is clean and the rooms are Japanese sized. Bathroom was a fair size about half the size of the room. Shower was good and bed comfortable. Our room was part outside (no roof covering from the main door), so you do get daylight come into your room as the curtain isn't a blackout one. Reception was helpful with the queries we had. The area around the hotel, there isn't much there except a convenient shop over the road, so you'll need to walk at least 15-20 mins walk to where there is an array of restaurants. Ueno station is about 5 minutes walk.

Practical location near Ueno station. Busy hotel that feels cramped and hectic. Staff friendly but stressed. Room clean and fine but the corridors are horrible (cold, noisy, dirty due to the open design - feels like a car park). Breakfast cramped on a few tables in the lobby area with people coming and going.

Told the hotel staff that we wanted to stay as a family of 3 in the room but as their hotel do not have any triple room and I told them we do not mind squeezing in one room but they strongly refused our request. I have traveled around the world and this is the first time i encountered this. After arguing more than half an hour and telling them that I need to take care of my daughter who is sick then they relented but they still want to charge me 6000 yen per day for 4 nights stay. So money minded! I will definitely NOT be returning to this hotel again. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Please avoid this place and go and stay at other hotels.

We needed a bed for a night in Tokyo on the last night of our trip and this place was just what was needed. Very small room, which didn't matter at all since we weren't unpacking much. Clean, well laid out, comfortable bed and a tasty, well priced breakfast. Bathroom was good and staff were friendly, no problems with leaving bags there till the evening while we did a cycle tour. Walking distance to Ueno and Kensei Ueno stations, which meant we were able to come in on the Shinkansen and catch the Skyline to Narita.

Located a few blocks from Ueno Station, the Ueno Hotel is a comfortable LITTLE place to use as base camp for Tokyo travels. Ms. Kae, Ms. Guo and Ms. Takana checked me in quick and friendly. Clean and comfortable, the brightly lit lobby has tables and chairs where one can sit and have complimentary coffee, green tea and/or water. For those of us who love ice in our drinks, a container of cubes is kept on the counter. A self-serve breakfast is available for a fee, but I didn't try it.
The room has a mini refrigerator with 2 complimentary bottles of water.
Amenities in the bathroom include a packaged toothbrush and tiny tube of toothpaste. Robes and slippers are supplied for use during your stay.
Without sounding gross, I have to say my favorite bathroom amenity was the 'washlet', otherwise known as a bidet! Throughout the property, soft harp music plays. There are also those famous Japanese vending machines on each of its 13 floors.
The Uneo Hotel is situated very conveniently to LOTS of shopping, dining and transportation options. Asakusa, Nakamise, Kappabashi, Ameyayokocho and Akihabara are all great for purchasing a HUGE variety of items. I ended up with THREE Sukajan jackets (the satin ones with embroidered items on them; dragons, koi, tigers)
Very basic, the Ueno Hotel is a great place to stay if you don't need/want all the bells and whistles of some fancy chain.
For a fee, early check in/late check out is available.
I plan to re-visit this hotel for when I take another trip on the Shinkansen. I'll get a good night's sleep and then hop down the street to travel - well rested - on another bullet train adventure!
