Overall convenient and pleasant stay with no problems. Hotel is on the quiet side of Shinjuku, Rooms are clean with nice amenities. Oedo subway line entrace is right next to the hotel, and there is an entrance to the Shinjuku JR station about one block away which leads to the South Entrance of the JR station. Three coin laundry machines in the parking garage, clean and functional. Bar and restaurant aren't anything special, but nice. I got the breakfast option, not the best, but good and convenient. Business center is ok, although the WiFi only worked in the lobby, not in the business center? Room Internet was good, LAN cable only, but I brought my own WiFi router, which has been worth packing on many trips recently. Check-in at 2pm. You can leave your luggage in the lobby before and after check-in/check-out, and the Narita express bus stops at the hotel. In general I agree with many other positive reviews here.
The Sunroute Plaza Hotel Shinjuku was an extremely convenient and affordable hotel due simply to the fact it is located approximately 5-10 minutes (depending on how fast one walks) from Shinjuku's JR EAST station and major Tokyo subway systems. Quite literally, from these stations, one can go anywhere in Tokyo and Japan. The hotel staff spoke English and were extremely helpful and accommodating. When I left the "do not disturb" sign on the front of my door, the staff left a message to see if I required anything for my room (e.g., towels, rags, etc.). The hotel is very clean and decorate with modern decor. Each room has ethernet access (a cord is provided) and free wifi in the hotel lobby. The hotel is near several shopping locations, restaurants, and convenience stores. I very thoroughly enjoyed my stay here!
Pleasantly surprised at how comfy my single room is... it has the feel of a cruise ship cabin but is perfect for one person. Lots of nice little features such as every toiletry you would ever need, a mini fridge for drinks or snacks, convenient light controls next to the bed, an emergency flashlight, electric tea pot, individual control of air conditioning, secure access in elevators to guest rooms, a pleasant lobby and a great location. As others noted, there are convenience stores, restaurants and shops close by and it's a short easy walk to Shinjuku station.
When you enter your room, you won't find a light switch - place your key card into a cradle on the wall to turn on the lights and AC. This prevents leaving lights and AC on when you're not in the room and saves energy. There are also magnets available to place on the door to let the cleaning staff know whether you want fresh linens or just to have your room tidied. Thoughtful conservation features I appreciated.
My only complaint is the advertised free wifi is only available in the lobby and second floor guest lounge and the signal strength is not very good. The rooms offer free internet via cable, but my netbook doesn't have an ethernet cable port. If I had known this before traveling, I would have planned ahead instead of having to purchase a little wireless converter locally.
A caution - if you think you will be having anyone visit you in this type of room, be aware the bathroom has a large window looking into it and a clear glass door. (It is billed as a room for one person!)
Overall, I was very pleased with the clean, cozy room and the excellent location at bargain prices. My daughter and her boyfriend were staying in another hotel at triple the price and thought my room - though smaller - was very comparable.
Stayed in this hotel in May 2011 when it was only 2 months after the disastrous earthquake that happened to Japan. Couldn't locate the hotel because external lightings of buildings are switched off to conserve energy. Managed to find the hotel with the help of a friendly passerby.
Very convenient hotel, only a 7min walk from Shinjuku railway station (although tucked in along a relatively quiet road), and only a 2min walk to a convenient store. Takashimaya is just a 10min walk, passing by a Krispy Kreme where you can have nice donuts for breakfast.
Stayed in a double room with my sister. There is barely space for the 2 of us to place our luggage wide open beside the queen sized bed, but very clean room
The Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is a very nice place to stay when visiting Tokyo specially the Shinjuku area. The hotel location is ideally situated at a walking distance to Shinjuku station. The hotel is very clean and have a nice and quiet environment. However, I found the room to be less spacious when compared to hotels at other places of the world. The restaurant is excellent and had some dishes in the breakfast that Muslims can eat.
