My 5-night stay at this hotel was great. The facilities were clean, the staff were very polite, and the location was great for exploring Tokyo as long as you don't mind a 10-minute walk to Shinjuku Station. Yes, the rooms are small, but that's what you get in Japan.

If you dare to stay, for the love of Buddha, DON'T include the breakfast!!

The hotel is well located to Shinjuku; Tokyo's vibrant red light district accentuated but the many many love hotels in the district which offer overnight rates and "rest rates" should you choose not to stay overnight. APA is defiantly not one of these hotels because it's really not suitable for any group larger than 1 person.

Foolishly I upgraded my room from the economy double to a double to find surprisingly my room looked exactly the same as the room pictured in the economy double photos. Foolish because what I hadn't spotted is only the bed gets a few inches bigger and in fact according to reception staff, all the rooms are the same size. This means if you're "upgrading" you'll actually end up with less floor space.
Not that it would have made any difference. I do believe if my wife and I had stayed in the economy double, we would still have to take it in turns to open up our suitcases as there just isn't room to open up both

On the plus side, the inclusive "Western breakfast" is bound to help any weight loss you might be trying to achieve.
Maybe the UK isn't far enough west, but I'm happy to inform APA that sweetcorn soup has never been on any breakfast menu in England

One positive I can highlight is the mattress is comfortable. The hotel were kind enough to provide wafer thin pillows so I can feel that comfort even on the back of my neck.
Thank you APA!

Dear David K,

Thank you for choosing APA HOTEL<Higashi-Shinjuku-Kabukicho>, and taking your time to write us your feedback. We're terribly sorry for the experience you had during your stay. Our deepest apologies for not being able to live up to your expectations.

We're currently on our way to improve the quality of the breakfast, as well as changing the menu. As for the size of the room, it is as you mentioned. All of our rooms (except for 1 twin-bedroom) have the same measurement, the difference is the size of the bed. We're sorry that we were not able inform you that in advance.
The thin pillows are made according to the mattress's function. We also have fluffier pillows for free, if you would ever decide to choose us again. I'm sorry that we couldn't inform of you that too.

Once again, thank you for comment. We hope to have another chance to serve you in the future.

Sincerely,

APA HOTEL<Higashi-Shinjuku-kabukicho>

We have traveled around Japan for our honeymoon, even though the room in Japan are not that big this was the smallest room we ever have seen in our lifetime.
When we checked in they informed us we have to go out for the breakfast included.
When I went to the front to ask for a
Room change because our bed was between two walls (two people couldn't stand at the same time)the very rude lady at the front desk told us that was their standard.
We changed hotel straight away.
If you are planning to stay there please reconsider.

Dear Elena F,

Thank you for staying at our hotel. We're deeply sorry that we were not able to serve you to your expectations. Our rooms are all the same sizes, but the size of the bed differs. All of our rooms are made compact, with all necessities within reach or a step or two. Instead of the luxury of space, we provide high quality amenities and beds.

We're sorry for the unpleasant service that you experienced at the time of the room change request. We'll share your feedback within staff members for better services.

Sincerely,

APA HOTEL <Higashi-Shinjuku-Kabukicho>

I can't remember disliking a hotel this much in my entire traveling life. It seems that they are trying to operate the hotel without staff. For check in they have a large touch screen that doesn't get the job done. For check out at 8 AM, there was no one around. We sure would have liked help with getting a taxi.

And the room, a ridiculous size. We moved things into the hall so we could get our two roller bags into the room.

We will NEVER stay at an APA hotel again. We tried to upgrade and they said all the rooms are the same size. Really???

Room tip: to choose a good room, stay somewhere else

Yup, as described elsewhere, Shinjuku is a lively and colourful corner of Tokyo with much to offer in terms of food and fun, with many tastes catered for, even for those who have been seeking robotic cabaret!

It took us two goes to correctly locate our hotel, given that there are four APA Hotels in this neighbourhood alone. Higashi K is tucked away in a quieter corner of Shinjuku but not far from the action. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and we did the best we could with a small room that was probably better suited for a solo traveler than us two. That said, location location location!
