Grand Hotel Primavera
Ranked #2 of 4 Hotels in Borgo Maggiore
Reviewed May 8, 2012

We stayed at this resort for 1 day only because of the huge discounts that the GROUPON coupon provide.

The hotel was good, the room was very clear and spacious and the bathroom too but I consider that it is too expensive for the services on offer, not too much in compliace with the standard they advirtise.
The staff was generally friendly and helpful but not ready and willing to do their bidding... it seems that they are badly paid.

Then, the hotel is situated in Borgo Maggiore, a small village in the peaceful surroundings of San Marino but the place is also very isolated, close to a highway so very dangerous for pedestrian.
Luckily we came with our own car.
I think I would find one closer to the centre next time.

The hotel provides very interesting end furnished in classic style public areas. You feel yourself like in a museum somehow. Meanwhile rooms are so poor. Our had a nice balcony, but was equipped with very old, scrapped furniture and was not cozy or nice looking overall. The hotel provides free parking, breakfast was usual, nothing special, but a nice waiter asked us if we want some fresh juice, which was nice touch unless... We were charged for this juice during the check-out. So I don't think that cheating is good think at all. During check-in we were served by a very nice and kind female, then we talked with a male receptionist, who was rude and indifferent to all our questions.

The property is clean, safe and a good value. BUT you can feel that its not making the money it needs to maintain its status. Electronics are very dated, the staff was young and "stiff" in their ability, or desire to be helpful. I couldn't decide which. Breakfast was very nice, there was no extra charge for parking the car, and the internet was limited. Wireless only worked near the front desk. For the price it was a fair value. It is close to the lift to get to the town of San Marino, and right on the main highway. It fit our plan of where to stay and our price point. An interesting location with quite a bit of history to uncover, San MArino was worth the trip for us. BUT be aware that if the weather is not clear, you will see NOTHING.

Room Tip: Only come if the weather is fair, heavy clouds will spoil the experience.

The hotel easy to get to being on the main road, but is far enough back so that you don't hear it, even at night. Our first impression on arrival were the rooms which are certainly "Grand" and very clean.
Very friendly staff, especially in the wellness area and restaurant. The wellness area was great (small swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam bath) although it is all only available after 6pm. We all like to swim before breakfast and this is not possible here. The restaurant food was simple but very good and clearly freshly prepared - we made the mistake of eating out in the town once which we very much regretted (tourist traps). There is a menu sheet translated into English but the main menu is unfortunately only in Italian.
Being on the main road and a little way down the hillside you will need your car and won't want to just walk directly up to the castles.
My only real disappointment was the internet speed, which was frankly miserable for a 4-star hotel, regardless of whether you used a cable or wireless. I had to reload a lot of pages many times before they finally appeared. This was frustrating when looking up information about the local area for detailed planning.

Room Tip: Book early. Prices go up with time.

Located on the mountain just below the main city of San Marino, this hotel just breathes charm.

Entering the hotel gives the feeling of walking into an antique shop. Staff at check-in was very friendly and quick. The room again looked antique-ish and fairy-tale-castle like, but was perfectly cleaned and well maintained. The bathroom had a very nice corner-bathtub and came with all the amenities one could wish (including a complimentary piece of stinky soap!)

The spa was clearly built 30 years after the rest of the hotel. It looks quite modern and Asia-themed. One is only allowed into the pool when wearing a bathing cap though.

Breakfast is very nice, lots of choice and good quality.

I loved the hotel !!! it was a LARGE room with a huge bed and a great airconditioner: I arrived at the beginning of the 2006 heat wave. The room had a SUPERB view of the countryside, both Italy and San Marino. Everything was new and well-kept. The restaurant was excellent as well. I thought it was a great price considering the previous hotels where I had stayed.

The only thing is that the hotel is NOT in the old part of San Marino on top of the mountain., where the historical and commercial area is. So I had to walk UPHILL (steep) for a good mile to get to the tram and back down again afterwards. There is a bus up to the top that passes in front of the hotel. However, since the driver of the bus from Rimini, Italy had missed my hotel and deposited me and my luggage about a half mile uphill, I declined to use their services. I enjoyed stopping and taking photos along the way and it was great exercise.
