Excellent stay overall.

We stayed in a King Club room - well-appointed large-ish room, v large bed, decent bathroom, quality breakfast (lots of choice) and evening drinks/canapes included in room rate helped make the stay much more enjoyable.

Staff were all extremely courteous and super helpful - as you'd expect in Japan really but still worth mentioning - anyone visiting for the first time cannot fail to be impressed with the level and quality of service.

Centrally located, close to several metro lines - it is a five to ten minute walk to Tameikesanno & Kokkaigijidomae station platforms but once you've travelled on the metro for a couple of days you'll realise these lengths of walks are fairly common to enter/exit most stations - especially if you're transferring lines.

Well worth the extra rate to ensure the extra level of quality!

Everything you'd expect out of an Intercontinental Hotel. Nice and modern good quality rooms of a decent size and matching a good 4 or standard 5 star hotel. Location is also great, being a short walk to 4 metro lines and around 10-15 minutes walk to great bars and restaurants of Roppongi. The main downside is the pool charges, per visit being 2,000 YEN or around US$25. That's per visit to the pool and then you have to pay for deck chairs, around 1,000 YEN per hour. I've stayed at plenty of good hotels and never found anything like this. They do however have free cable internet but no wifi.

"Average for Intercontinental" should be interpreted to mean "everything you need for a comfortable and convenient hotel for business." In other words, the hotel did not blow me away, but I had a good stay. A few notes:

1. The bathroom in my room was a bit cramped. I had a fairly reasonable sized King, but the bathroom was just too small. Plus, no mirror directly in front of the sink and instead a window into the bedroom. I would have preferred a mirror.
2. The restaurants are expensive - there are several restaurants, which provide a lot of options if you want to stay in the hotel, but I have at least one bill that I am not going to submit for reimbursement, the meal was just too much.
3. The hotel has a gym, but charges 1,500 JPY for use. When I went to the gym, they did not charge me - not sure if that is standard practice or not.

Despite some of my critiques, I would definitely return to this hotel, but I would probably look at some other similarly priced options as well.

Lots of good things to say about this hotel. Fast, efficient, and courteous check-in. Excellent & huge breakfast buffet in the 2nd floor restaurant (complimentary in my case). A clean, elegant, well-furnished room with everything I needed - not large, but perfectly adequate. Free Internet access in the room. Plenty of in-house dining options (including a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars) - none of which I tried.

Having said all that, it's one of those upscale business hotels that you'll probably forget the minute you leave. Not because it does anything badly; it just does nothing spectacularly well. Who cares? It does what it's supposed to do - expensively and predictably.

Background: 2-night stay at the Classic Queen bedroom.

Room is dated. Service is good but kind of expected in Japan. This hotel needs to undergo major renovation to stay on top of the game. Certainly not value for money. Good thing Airport Limousine to Narita departs from here. Nearby subway is a labyrinth of tunnels and quite a walk underground to reach the station proper like Ginza line and Chiyoda line.
