Had a really nice stay. Room was spacious with great views. Staff friendly and keen to assist. Location could not be more central. Nice high end shops within minutes from the hotel. Will be back in 2015 with the family. Tokyo is such a vibrant and exciting city.

hotel is in a great location, walking distance to GINZA, best part is the help provided by the staff to navigate tokyo station which can be very confusing especially catching narita express to airport or catching bullet train if you want to go to Mt Fuji by your own. also you can save taxi fare as the hotel is next to tokyo station. rooms are also very nice

We were deciding between the FS, Peninsula and Mandarin Oriental for the last part of our trip in Japan. On hindsight, we should have followed our initial impressions and stayed at the MO. We love the MO chain and have had many fantastic experiences in their outfits throughout Asia, but given its location near Tokyo Station and that it was closer to the main shopping belt in Ginza and the Imperial Palace, we opted for the FS. We have previously stayed in several FS hotels, but this stay (in addition to our other experiences) confirmed for us that FS has not reached the standards that MO has accomplished. Don’t get us wrong – the FS Tokyo is in no way a bad option, or that our experiences was in any way lacklustre, but we felt that there was nothing particularly special or memorable about our overall stay.

Pros:

What the FS in Tokyo does excel in is the service rendered to us throughout our stay, though we have come to accept this as part of the norm of fantastic service during our entire stay in Japan. Special mention goes to the concierge staff who responded to our requests via email promptly and made dinner reservations for us, as well as Yuki who brought us to the limousine bus service station and stayed with us till we boarded the coach. We appreciated Yuki's commitment to service very much.

As mentioned, the hotel was located very close to JR Tokyo Station which would be excellent for those arriving on bullet train or Narita (Yaesu South Exit). There are also limousine bus services to/from Haneda and Narita airports across the street of the FS. The FS also provides Meet and Greet services at train platforms in Tokyo Station if you come in by train and let the hotel know in advance. It is also accessible to several subway lines which would bring you to other parts of Tokyo quickly for sightseeing and shopping. There are many dining options in Tokyo station itself and the Daimaru department store. As with all the department stores throughout Tokyo, a special highlight was exploring its food and supermarket section. Lastly, the hotel is a short 10-15 minute walk to the heart of Ginza (Mitsukoshi, Matsuya, Uniqlo, Mikimoto, etc.) and the concierge provides a useful map of the vicinity.

Cons:

If we were to be fastidious and especially given the cost of the room, small and minor details on the part of housekeeping could be attended to more closely. This was surprising given that this was Japan, the land where attention to details is almost second nature. Small touches could be incorporated into the overall experience which we assumed was the norm in many luxury hotels we have stayed in before. This could include leaving a piece of chocolate or a Japanese treat on the bedside during turn-down; or even replenishing the welcome fruit plate the next day. The room could also be kept neater. There was also no hotel booklet documenting the services provided on our desk. We could have overlooked all of these if not for the fact that FS is a luxury hotel in a competitive market. We also felt that there could be some elements of 'Japanese-ness' incorporated into the aesthetics and design elements of the hotel, which could easily be accomplished. We did enjoy the complimentary Wifi and the bed, which was very comfortable for our busy days in Tokyo but the room, while elegant and spacious, was nothing particularly special. It is also surprising that the hotel management has not addressed this when other reviewers have also made mention of this.

The FS is a good hotel that has an enviable location especially for those who would like to have access to Tokyo Station and we enjoyed the boutique, intimate feel of this hotel (with only over 50 rooms). However, as other reviewers have mentioned, we do not find it sufficiently compelling to return to stay in it again, unless the price offered was good and if we needed to take a train in Tokyo Station to travel in Japan. Otherwise, we would certainly opt for and recommend the MO the next time we visit Tokyo.

Dear Nalk sama,

I would first like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us from your recent stay. We are very much appreciative of your comments and we are naturally disappointed that you were not completely satisfied with us. I am extremely happy to know that you found the level of our service was excellent. I thank you for recognizing our concierge and our signature service of Tokyo Station greeting. As mentioned, it was quite disappointing to hear your constructive feedback, but I greatly appreciate your honest opinions. Feedback, such as yours, will help us think new and different ways to operate our small hotel to meet our guest's expectations.

The service level provided at Four Seasons, Tokyo is outstanding. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful, including assisting with train tickets and transportation of luggage to and from the train station. The room was beautiful and very well equipped. I would be extremely happy to stay at FS Tokyo for business or pleasure on my next trip to Tokyo. One element that I did not expect, was the complication in communication. I was a bit surprised that the English speaking staff did not have as good a comprehension level as I would have expected. That said, they all made a tremendous effort and there were no problems. There was an Arab gentleman working at the concierge desk and his English was flawless. Language issues were not actually a problem, it was just the one element that was less than what I expected.

We had a complicated schedule because we were arriving at Narita at 6pm and wanted to have a very nice sushi dinner. Being a Sunday pm, this was complicated, but prior to arrival we worked with the concierge and were able to secure a reservation at an outstanding restaurant, Sushi Kanesaka. I would highly recommend this property to any visitor to Tokyo. It's beautiful, the service is excellent and the location is perfect. Although only in Tokyo overnight, we truly enjoyed our stay.
