We enjoyed our 3 nights here very much. The check in process was a bit strange - I think they are trying too hard not to be a hotel! You are then escorted to your room and it is there that they explain everything that is available, included etc. Somewhat over the top.
The rooms are lovely - we had a garden view.
The service in the lobby and at breakfast was a bit hit and miss. Not sure why it takes so long for tea and coffee to arrive??
Hotel is in a great location and close to everything. We pretty much walked everywhere including to Gion. Some places you needed to get a taxi.

Dear LindaH274

Thank you very much for your stay and of course your feedback.

Yes indeed the in-room check-in experience, since we have no VIP lounge, we like to give our VIP guests the luxury of, by-passing the front desk and doing all the formalities in the comfort of their own room.
Breakfast thank you, I will be sure to share your comments with our team.

On the other hand we are very pleased you enjoyed the rooms and the location.

Hope to see you one day back in Kyoto, until then wishing you safe travels.

Kind Regards

The hotel is probably the finest hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are a perfect blend of East meets West. Stunning appointments and luxurious finishes. The public rooms are beautiful and the service exceptional, with one glaring exception. The informal lounge off the lobby that serves casual meals is a disaster. The service is appalling. At one meal we waited 50 minutes, in a not particularly full room, for anything to appear. Even the 2 coffees and the two cocoas arrived after 40 minutes! No amount of asking could get them to fulfill the order. No one is managing that restaurant. Another slight complaint is the gift shop, which had an odd assortment of gifts and prepackaged Tiffany items for sale, and BTW, not a salesperson in sight.

We stayed at the hotel during Cherry Blossom season to celebrate my birthday! Thanks to Enguchi-san, despite of the reward availability, Enguchi-san was able to move my reservation closer to my birthday. Via numerous emails, the hotel's ladies and gentlemen started to prepare for our stay by making arrangements, answering questions and providing information prior to our arrival.
Upon check-in, we were upgraded to the river view room. The room is much bigger than typical Japanese hotel room. The hotel decors and details are artistic and in good quality. The room made me feel at home.
Special thanks to the Guest Recognition team, specifically Margaux and Nay. Guest Recognition team has provided both Tandem bike and electric bikes for us to choose after reading our concern. We enjoyed a great bike tour along Kamogawa River and visited Shimogamo shrine. Upon chatting, Margaux learned that we have an interest in art, she then was able to help making Art tour arrangement inside Ritz Kyoto the next morning at the last minute. This turned out to be a great arrangement since we could not go hiking the next morning due to rain. Nay was great giving detail explanation of the arts displayed inside Ritz. The tour helped me to have better comprehension and appreciation of Ritz Kyoto!
I think Ritz Kyoto set themselves apart from other Ritz by providing customer-focused services with attention to details and listening to the guests. This makes me wanting to come back in the future.

Excellent, top notch quality amenities and concierge service. The rooms are great, except for the fact that the bathroom is right next to the bed so one person cannot use it without waking the other up. There's a wooden partition door, but impossible to close it quietly.

The hotel is about a 7 min walk from the closest subway station (we took those everywhere), so expect to walk a little. Amazing breakfast - my husband I went for the tradtional Japanese which was good, once. Our kids (2 teens) opted for the western style (in a different hotel restaurant) and said it was their favorite meal on our trip.

This Ritz was much better quality than the one in Osaka (though that room set up was better).

Wow, where do I start...

This was the highlight of a 2 week trip around Japan - we were staying for 4 nights in the peak of cherry blossom season, although as soon as you stepped in through the door you entered a serene oasis a world away from the outside madness.

Checking in was seamless and easy process overseen by Lisa (reception/guest hostess) - it was my partner’s birthday the day we checked in which was seen upon checking in, and when we got to our room 5mins later it had been decorated with ‘Happy Birthday’ balloons...a total surprise and quite a lovely little touch, and accompanied to it was a bottle of bubbly too.

Although rooms are quite compact, they are very well appointed with great bathrooms and furnishings.

The key point that stood out to the whole of our group was the personal service that we each felt - quite a knack of a large hotel, but they had this down to a fine art, helped with our interactions with Lisa, who helped and advised with any queries we had.

We had both lunch and an afternoon tea in the lounge which were both wonderful, and an evening meal in the Italian. I think overall the Italian was ok, though the service wasn’t great, and we found ourselves repeatedly asking for things which wasn’t overly attentive.

This is fantastic location from which to explore the various areas of Kyoto and if we are ever to return to Kyoto we would be booking back in here again!
