This hotel is an old-school hotel, since 1888 in the old city of Kyoto. So, even though you can generally expect good experience, there are some inconvenience for modern travelers. Here are some pros and cons in my opinions

Pros:
1) Great location. Close to a beautiful river (great for jogging ) and entertainment area (shopping and dining)
2) Spacious room (compared with Japanese standard)
3) Politeness of staff

Cons:
1) Unheard rules to use the fitness gym.

In the morning:
You have to pay approx. $20 (even as a hotel guest)
Opening hours is 7.00-10.00am
Final check in time is 9.00am ( I was refused to enter at 9.30am !)

In the afternoon:
You have to pay approx. $30 (even as a hotel guest)
Opening hours is 1.00-10.00pm
Final check in time is 9.00pm

Monday is closed
Weekend is 11.00am-9.00pm

2) Old building and room. Though it is good enough, everything is old compared with modern hotels

If you are a fitness person like me, stupid rules of fitness gym might annoy you.

Check in was FAST!. Lugage were taken quickly to the room. Room (2101) was huge with beautiful view to the east and south of the city. Few block from downtown. The riverwalk was a 100mt.from the hotel, with several kilometers for running/walking along the river.rooms are insonorazed. Two TVs in the room. Beds are excellent as well the pillows. Bathroom are large with separate shower and tube.
I will be back next trae

Situated close to the peaceful Kamogawa River, its a well known establishment in this city thats bein over-ran by tourists. Staying at an Okura, one knows that they are in gd hands - comfortable rooms, professional Japanese service and an overall consistency in their offering. What perhaps the hotel can improve upon is a little bit more warmth towards their guests.

we've stayed 03 nights and we loved the breakfast and some shops at the underground level. The only downside was that our room, although non smk, was a bit smelly. The concierge service was impeccable with great tips and the shipping service to Brazil as good.

We stayed one night as part of a tour. Basic amenities, good breakfast buffet, but not really a local experience. Good views of Kyoto. Seemed like a business hotel. We were there only overnight, so it might be better if a longer stay as the location is central to Kyoto.
