L'Antico Asilo

This B&B was quaint and beautiful! Definitely worth a multiple return!! The rooms were lovely and very comfy--the bed was great! We particularly enjoyed the room off the courtyard, where we walked out to breakfast each morning! Breakfasts were astounding--and you could skip lunch. Or picnic along the countryside. Hostess, Elena, was most hospitable and helpful with anything you might need, and my non-Italian speaking was no problem, as her English brought us right through!! Serralunga d'Alba is a tiny town--walk through it in an afternoon--then go back and enjoy the castle, streets and restaurants. Great find!

Room Tip: Our room on the courtyard was lovely.

With our little son we spent two nights in this BB in the picturesque village of Serralunga d'Alba. We can only confirm the other reviews here regarding the hospitality and quality encountered.

We were glad to have such warm welcome and support from the owner for finding ourselves around in the region and also felt very comfortable in the refurbished "old nursery" with it's classic and simple interior design.

Breakfast was great too, so we would recommend this place for anyone with a car and interested I staying close to Alba / Barolo / La Morra! What is a further plus: the view from the little street in front of the BB - fantastic!

05 - 07dec2011 @ 85euro/day. Looking for a place near Albaretto della Torre where we had an unexpected lunch reservation with icon chef Cesare Giaccone in his home, this small B&B in Serralunga revealed itself during an internet search. Normally this time of year would not find me in Piemonte but this gastronomic opportunity came, as of many life's better offerings, just by chance. The Antico Asilo fulfilled our needs to a T. Very carefully retouched rooms, lovely breakfast, a very congenial Elena as host, and spectacular if quiet surroundings. Perfect. Antico Asilo left the same impression as the extreme beauty of the wine region here, where at every turn in the road there opens a new vista as if it must outdo that which had just passed by.

We enjoyed our first visit to Serralunga d'Alba. There are parking spaces in front of the hotel with the most gorgeous view of the vineyards. There are a few benches outside so you can enjoy this view at anytime. There are four rooms in this beautiful building that used to be a nursery.

Elena is one of the most charming hosts we have ever met. She is a wonderful cook and we enjoyed our large breakfast spread every morning. We didn't sleep in because we were looking forward to our morning meal.

Everything is a 10 to 20 minute drive away. You can visit Alba, Barolo, Asti, Bra, and every other beautiful city in this region. We found this area to be breathtaking and our only complaint is that we wished we stayed longer.

It's the second time we stay here for our "white truffle" trips in the Langhe region and will certainly come back.
The location is beautiful and convenient, including proximity to great Slow Food osteria Cascina Schiavenza (50 mt from the hotel - reservation recommended).
Very clean hotel, very nice breakfast buffet.
The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Located in a quiet village, this is a perfect location for a quiet holiday. The views from the village are beautiful, and there are several choices for excellent dining within a few minutes walk, or a few minutes drive. Also, there are dozens of other terrific villages, vineyards, castles, etc. to visit within 15 - 45 minutes drive from the B&B.

The rooms are spacious, very clean and very comfortable. The room we stayed at also had a door that opens into the peaceful garden, where we ate an excellent breakfast each morning.

The only aspect of L'Antico Asilo which is better than the location and quality of accommodation, is the amazing manager, Elena. She was so kind, friendly and helpful, we felt like she was an old friend welcoming us back to her home.

We look forward to finding an opportunity to return to this wonderful B&B - as often as possible!

B&B l'Antico Asilo is the reason for why, given a choice, I would always prefer to stay at a B&B while on vacation in Italy; leaving big, fancy and impersonal hotels for business trips. If you don’t have friends or family you can visit and stay with in Piemonte, Antico Asilo is as close as it gets to a genuinely local and personal holidays experience. Our hostess, Elena, would prepare the freshest and tastiest breakfast you can wish for – various (and I mean, various) local cheeses, charcuterie, home-made cakes, fruit, delicious bread. She would also offer to guide you to the best spots in the region, recommend local restaurants and make reservations, if necessary. Our double room, that had direct access to the small courtyard, was spacious and spotlessly clean; the same goes for the bathroom. The interior of the nursery school (asilo) is most charming and since Elena and her family live at a different house in Serralunga, it also affords a certain degree of privacy.
Have dinner at a local restaurant (2 mins away from l'Antico Asilo) "Trattoria Cascina Schiavenza" - it is run by the winemakers and both the food and wines are excellent.
If you can find a designated driver, consider paying a visit to trattoria La Coccinella in Serravalle Langhe (some 15 km away) - seasonal quality ingredients put together in imaginative but still local way. Delightful.
