“Molise country getaway”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

We traveled to Italy to visit family in nearby Abruzzo and discovered this wonderful country getaway in Alto Molise. We stayed in Casa Alessandra which is a spacious, comfortable apartment more than adequate for our family of five including 3 small children. Our hosts Emma and Decio went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. Signora Emma hosted our daily breakfast (colazione) which featured her homemade jams (ask for the green tomato!), espresso, local cheeses and cured meats. (No worries, plenty of other breakfast favorites too). A perfect staging point to explore nearby Abruzzo National Park, the Alto Molise villages of Pescopennataro and Capracotta and just a 1 hour drive from the blue flag beaches of Vasto and Pescara. Ask the hosts for day trip itineraries. The Masseria is a working farm surrounded by vineyards and fields. As advertised, it provides stunning views of nearby towns like historic Agnone just 6 km away. If you are looking for a genuine Italian country experience while relaxing in clean, modern accommodations, the Masseria Santa Lucia should be on top of your list.

3 night stay here in a quite country location. We had a comfortable and very well equipped apartment. We took the optional evening meal which was very good. No frills Italian local cooking and wine but high quality with produce from the Masseria or the locality. Particulary good home made pasta and cured meat. This is extremely good value for money Emma is a lovely host and we would recommend you go too!

During stay in June, 2011 in Borgo San Pietro, invited to dine with parents at Masseria Santa Lucia.
Beautiful B&B and dining with Emma and Decio was the highlight of our Italy trip. We were strangers but they made us feel like family.

My wife and I have recently enjoyed the most wonderful stay with Emma at her lovely agriturismo. A beautiful setting, nice rooms and grounds, superb views up to Agnone and Poggio, but most of all a terrific welcome from Emma and her family. Emma really made our stay with her friendliness (though I must try to learn some more Italian before we go next). And as for her cooking - well, what can we say. Absolutely superb. Not just all the use of fresh ingredients from their own land but also home made - well everything, from bread to jam to pastas of all sorts, olive oil, wine, liqueurs, vegetables and fruit. We have never eaten so well in Italy - be warned, though, to have only a light lunch if you want to truly enjoy Emma's dinners! And the whole place is so relaxing, with wonderful air and light, no sounds other than the birds and the bells in the far distance, and not a road in sight. The area around is also lovely, and you can find lots of little known and visited places to enjoy, from hillside towns to the National Parks. It deserves to be better known. Thank you so much, Emma - we are now enjoying the wonderful jam we brought back with us!

This marvellous Agriturismo property is set in a valley between 2 improbable hill towns. The rooms are comfortable and there is a lovely pool area. Emma is a fantastic cook and hostess. She cures her own hams and salamis and makes her on bread, jams, olive oil, wine, liqueurs, ice cream, biscuits etc. Her home made pasta is to die for.

She and her husband Decio made our stay really memorable. They could not have done enough for us.

We were traveling in Italy for 6 weeks and had been staying at all of the tourist cities., as well as some wonderfully small little towns We wanted a midway break . Something away from the tourist areas where we could rest, relax and rejuvenate for the rest of our vacation. We found Masseria Santa Lucia the perfect spot. It's a 3 hour easy drive from Rome and surrounded by quaint hilltop towns. The property itself farms nearly everything that is served at breakfast and dinner. Emma is the perfect hostess providing delicious food and a warm, loving nature. Dinner was served outside the stone cooking area and it was like a movie set. Lots of different languages were being spoken as everyone translated. We met fascinating people....A German doctor and his wife who were staying for 3 weeks, an English couple who had been there before and returned for Emma's cooking, an Italian family, a priest, etc. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our room was small and nicely done though there are larger rooms if you require them. Relaxing by the pool and the dinner conversations were our favorite parts. Though we also enjoyed wandering around the farm looking at all that was being grown. Emma pretty much makes everything from scratch and was fun to watch her do her magic. We drove to some of the hilltop towns, but our main goal had been accomplished. Relaxation, great food, and interesting people. When we go to Italy again, we will indeed stop for a longer stay with our dear Emma.
