The staff and management work very hard to make your stay at this boutique beach hotel a delight. It is situated in a sublime location looking across the bay to the beach. Food was simple but more than adequate...if you order the sea food platter make sure you have a healthy appetite. I loved the relaxed nature of the hotel but regrettably I am unable to recommend it because of the loud music than comes from the Sea Creatures bar on the beach until 3am and must be heard all over Mirissa. Apparently it is mainly at weekends but we were there on a Mon/Tues and it happened then as well
Apparently the authorities know of this issue but choose not to address the problem, I hope the local tourist board reads this and understands that the much needed tourist industry in Mirissa will suffer unless the only tourists they want are surfers

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are probably the best

Behind a wooden door lies this lovely small hotel. Problem is it has been spoilt by the resort. Even the surfers complain the sea is over crowded. You can watch them riding the waves from in front of your hotel.

The hotel cannot keep out the noise and this intensifies after sunset especially at weekends when the area becomes a mini Ibiza town. Parties and loud thump, thump music until after 4.00 in the morning. The inside of the hotel itself is peaceful but you cannot keep out the noise.

The lovely beach has been developed, destroyed and is still being developed new hotel in processing of being built and work carried out throughout the night. Plus a grotesque tenement style sky scraper hotel dominates above the tree line, of this small beach.

The view from the hotel is spoilt by looking out onto hundreds of sun beds on this small beach, and at night by what can only be described as Blackpool without the tower, during the illuminations lights fully on, some people may like this (in fact amount of lights probably exceed Blackpool).

Whoever is responsible for tourism needs to get a grip and stop the building work and the “Ibiza” party scene that has ruined this lovely beach.

It is a real disappointment the area around influences this lovely hotel.

Staff are helpful, and the food although even by other hotels in Sri Lanka are bit pricey are very nice (same for drinks). You are asked about 17.00 what you want, for your evening meal.
We went whale watching and had our breakfast on our return which was much nicer than having a packed breakfast. I found this to be nice, and relaxing even if it was after 11.00 in the morning, that the hotel was openly willing to provide guests with this service.

The manager is helpful, and not in your face, type of way. My opinion was he cares he makes your stay at his hotel a pleasant stress free one, unfortunately he has no control over the noise from the other establishments. (owner was in England)

We had an upper floor room so had a small balcony with chairs, and a view across the small bay area. We could watch the surfers riding the waves.

Surrounding area within the hotel is comfortable. Small pool, which fits in nicely with the hotel grounds, and the rest of the hotel, more of a private type pool.

I would not consider this a family hotel, as most families want facilities for their children, but there were children staying, there who swam in the pool under the watchful. eye of grandparents.

A special thank you for the help, and generosity by the manager , in negotiating with our handling agent Aitken Spence, on our behalf, who I hope will get some form of recognition and reward from Aitken Spence.

I would love to go back but hesitant because of the noisy resort, and the new hotel will have been finished.

I hope someone in authority puts a stop to the noise and parties. Example of this was a drunk recovering on a sunbed next morning with his manhood out. Is this what the Sri Lankan authorities really want for this beach. It's also a shame as it is with easy access for the whale watching trips.

I felt sorry for the elderly couple whose house had been swamped by all this development, after all they were probably here well before this happened as are the graveyards which are lost to this over developed resort.

Room Tip: All appear to be of very good standard. To secure a good night's sleep probably best to avoid w...

After having stayed at Numer One Mirissa for 3 nights, we know why they have called it Number One. I can't imagine you'll find a better hotel in Mirissa. One of the best hotels we have stayed at. It is really a botique hotel with top service, top views (and a hammock at the terasse), top restaurant and two minutes walk from the fantastic beach.
Thank you to the manager and his staff for looking so well after us, we enjoyed every moment and can only give this place our best recommendations.
Best regards

A friend recommended staying in this hotel and we were very happy we have followed her recommendation! A boutique-style hotel with less than 10 rooms, and the location is just stunning! It overlooks Mirissa beach from the west corner, and whilst it doesnt have direct access to the beach, the view is just incredible and it takes you less than 5 minutes to reach it. Stylish common areas - hammocks, sunbeds, dining area and the infinity pool. It was almost ruminant to lay in the sunbed, drink fresh passion fruit juice and watch serfers riding the waves. Nicely appointed rooms with great beds - very high level of sleeping comfort.
We were travelling in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks and this is one of the most elegant hotels we have stayed - very close to the main beach but it feels intimate and placed above the rest - in literal and figurative sense :)
Food was really nice (esp seafood platter) and breakfast is excellent - both European and Sri Lankan style.
Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All rooms have the same view - it is a matter of your preference to stay either on the ground floor...

We have now been to the hotel 4 times and can't wait to go again. We live in Colombo, so it is less than 2 1/2 hours by car. Living here, we are also familiar with other hotels and know that hotel number one really stands out.The manager Susanthra and all the staff are so helpful. The rooms are good sized, well equipped and all have great views. The views from the pool and restaurant are equally impressive and the food is good.
Mirissa bay has a great buzz, with restaurants , beach bars, clean beach and sea, and good surf. Yes...we are already looking forward to going again.

Room Tip: The hotel has 5 rooms on first floor and 5 on the ground. All have great views but access to the poo...

Simply stunning setting on the headland of Mirissa beach.
The owner greeted us on arrival and all the staff made us feel very welcome throughout.
Rooms were superb - all ocean facing, with hammocks and rose petals on the bed.
Avoid the whale watching as it is done very unethically.
The breakfasts were superb also with marmite and peanut butter available which was a nice home comfort.

I really loved this hotel. From the moment we arrived it felt like a great place and out of all the places we have stayed in Sri Lanka, this is the one where I wish we had booked for longer.

Perched at the end of so, so pretty Mirissa Beach with the sound of the surf lapping at it's edges it was a gloriously chilled out little hotel. The staff are lovely and the food was terrific. We booked the family room and it was perfect. The balcony was my favourite place to hang out day or night.

A special thanks to Scott, the owner, who suggested we grab a tuk tuk over to Weligama Beach so our kids could learn to surf. He made sure the staff knew the best surf school on the beach before heading out himself. The service here is generous and personalised. Can't believe it took Sri Lanka for our Aussie kids to get on a board but there you go. They are hooked now. Bondi here we come.

There are plenty of hotels popping up on Mirissa Beach but if you want something really special with loads of character, lovely people and a relaxed vibe, I can't rate this high enough. And stay for longer than 3 nights if you can!

Thanks again.
