Chanie and Lali are excellent hosts - the guesthouse is a charming place with a garden and 5 rooms. We stayed in the room on the top floor, overlooking the garden. The room is spacious and nice. Breakfast is included and is served in the garden. The guesthouse is not on the beach, but it's only a 5 minute walk to the ocean.

Remember to book ahead! We were only able to stay a night there, as when we emailed a week before our planned arrival, the guesthouse was already full for the whole month.

we spend 2 days in rose blossom guesthouse owned by a very nice couple. Their house is far from the road in a middle of a garden. Very relaxing atmosphere and they want to keep a friendly ambiance (only 5 rooms) they take time to discuss and share experiences. They offer very good food.

Channi & Lali are exceptional hosts that goes out of their way to help you where ever they can. Channie helped booked my exercusions to see the blue whales and accomodation in my next location. She even texted me to make sure I arrived safely to my next location as I was a female travelling by myself. You can't ask for better hospitality than that.

They always greet you with a smile and am always willing to have a chat. The food were so good, I never even bothered to eat anywhere else. The guest house is only 5 mins walk to the gorgeous beach where you can spend your time relaxing. Or if you prefer, you can sit in the tranquil garden, reading or listening to the birds and peacock talk to each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rose Blossom and would return there in a heart beat. Thanks Channi & Lali for a wonderful stay.

We were so excited and it was great to come back to Sri lanka, to Mirissa and to Roseblssom Guesthouse.Chanie and Lali welcomed us with very big smiles as always We stayed with them for one week, they are placed near to beach, near to a Buddhist temple and near to the bus stop to Matara, Colombo..
They have two new big rooms (Ac – hot water), we stayed in one near to the garden, we loved it.They have also restaurant; we loved also Chanie’s coconuts roties and spicy curries. They were very helpful, they gave us a lot of tips about Sri Lanka, and we knew Ayurvedic medicine thanks to them as Chanie’s brother is an Ayurvedic Doctor. We hope to come back to Mirissa soon and of course no doubt we will come back to Roseblossom because it will be perfect as always.

According to TA and LP Rose Blossom belongs to the so called "hidden" gems. On the basis of this reference we decided to stay here for two nights. Hence, our expectations were quite high because of the (seemingly) excellent reviews and the particular high price of 4500 LRP (for Sri Lankan conditions) per night including breakfast.

Without a doubt the hosts are quite friendly and welcoming. In fact we enjoyed their presence quite a lot. We also received several herbal teas to regain our strength as we suffered from a cold. The breakfast seemed also decent and the hosts were willing to adjust their meals to our needs. The garden area is quite relaxing because it is quiet and well maintained by the hosts. But do these things justify a top rating on TA?

The REAL PROBLEM are the rooms.

If you take a close look on the TA reviews, then you will notice that only a very few travelers mention the conditions of the rooms, and if they do, they rate this underlying guesthouse with two or three points at max! In contrast, almost all other travelers who rated the Rose Blossom with "excellent" and "very good" only refer to the quite positive experiences with the hosts. Although we would confirm many of the postitive things, we are still of the opinion that in order to receive 5/5 as a rating, the rooms, no matter if it is a guesthouse or hotel, must be also in a very good, if not perfect state.

Unfortunately, in the case of Rose Blossom, the rooms were a pure dilemma. Our room was so small that we could barely move in it. The queen size bed took over the major space of the room. This problem was only aggreviated by the fact that our room would not have a shelf where we could store our clothes.

Our room had almost nothing to offer, not one single lamp, or some useful furniture. Internet was not provided in the rooms. Finally, do not expect to find a full functioning mosquito net either. First we had to fix a couple of holes till we would go to bed. Some of them were even too big for a quick fix as we had no duck tape with us. Moreover, do not expect a fridge, soap, or even useful towels. This was the first guesthouse where we would encounter two completly different towels. It felt almost like a bad joke when we saw a branded Micky Mouse towel. Anyways, I suppose these things could have been easily ignored, or accepted under particular circumstances.

A more severe issue, however, was the cleanliness. Our room offered only a superficial cleanliness. The general bed area seemed clean and so did the bathroom. However, there were still many spiderwebs and dust scattered around in the room. Our bathroom was also invaded by ants on a daily basis. Still, these things were not the biggest upset. We experienced similar things in other Asian countries earlier on (but for 1/4 of the price). The biggest upset with respect to the cleanliness was the mold infestation in the bathroom. I would have never expected to see something like this in a guesthouse which is rated in the Top 5 on TA. Especially not in a place with such a high tourist turnover. As you will see, this issue will become a particular nasty problem if you suffer from skin allergies as my girlfriend does. And even if you think that you have no reason to be afraid of the general downsides of mold, the terrible smell of it will sooner or later adversely affect your good night sleep.

In general, we would agree that an A/C is not always necessary. However, for Rose Blossom an A/C would be quite beneficial. The fan is not strong enough to provide an enjoyable temperature in the room. During the dry season it becomes extremely hot in Mirissa and the heat remains in the rooms till the late evening, no matter if the fan is turned on or off. Sleeping becomes impossible that way unless you are totally drunk, tired, or from South (East) Asia.

We would probably not complain about the above mentioned issues if the rate per night was not 4500 LPR. The point being is that for this price, pretty much everywhere in Sri Lanka, things like an A/C, daily cleaning, Internet, and a shelf all belong to the standard amenities of a guesthouse, even in Mirissa, as we later found out. Otherwise we should not pay more than 2000 LPR per night.

In our opinion Rose Blossom has still a long way to go. At the current moment we could not recommend this place, as the price seems quite high relative to the given standards. Next time we will read the TA reviews with more care and actually take a look on the user fotos before we do upcoming bookings.

Room Tip: The average price for a beach front fan room should is 3000 - 3500 LPR in Mirissa. Thus, paying a hi...

We only stayed with Channi and Lali for one night and they were so helpful with all our questions and requests. Highly recommend booking a whale watching tour with them as the company went the extra (several) miles to make sure we saw some blue whales, dolphins and a turtle. Their food was simple and delicious and always served with a cheery smile. The guest house is a close walk to the beach down a lovely quiet lane so no noise. Mirissa is a great, relaxed place to hang out and watch the world go by.

Our stay at Rose Blossom was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. The hosts, Chanie and Lali were so sweet and welcoming and really made this feel like more of a homestay than a guest-house.

Rose Blossom is situated a short walk from the beach down a peaceful track - it really felt like we were staying in the jungle, in a local-family area.

We loved reading our books in the garden and then taking a short stroll down to the amazing beach at Mirissa.

I warmly recommend this place.
