“A nice hideout close to the waters!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

A lovely place hides behind its small entrance/sign board.

This lodgings has direct access to the beach, and the waters just in front give access to a small strip of fine sands, and warm waters when we visited. When we walk up a little bit into the water, there was a big rock that we can climb up to get a better view of the whole vicinity.

The room that we had is a beautiful white room with seashell details on the wall. Simple yet elegant. Hot water was readily available, and we liked the fact that our ground floor room had a porch that we could chill out at and have a drink. We were a group of tree sharing a two double bed room, and there was ample space for us to lay our luggage and to walk around.

We would definitely stay at Palm Villa if we return to mirissa.

We stayed here for 2 nights and were told check in would be at 12pm, we arrived at 11:30 however we didn't get to check in till 1:45pm as apparently w as we booked a family room it would take longer to clean. However the manager I'm assuming did apologise but regardless the room was amazing, big and spacious, provided a mosquito net and working AC! Balcony had a great view with seating area and beds were comfy with many sockets. Bathroom was clean and shower had good pressure however we never had any hot water which wasn't really needed but would be nice. However outside our room (room 21) just outside the doorway there was a leak in the ceiling which was quite annoying when leaving the room and something needs to be done about that. Room was semi quiet there seemed to be a bit of noise outside our room which was at the end of the corridor, the door of the room needs to be updated as the key and door seem really old and locks seemed outdated. The location of the hotel was perfect, was at the end of the beach meaning it was quiet and it had it's own little beach area, plenty of sun bed which were super comfy, and deck chairs and hammocks.

Breakfast was wonderful, fresh fruit platter and pancakes with syrup however they could offer more I think, staff were extremely friendly, great service!

Dined here once for dinner and I do not recommend the hotel for food, much cheaper places along the beach and better food as service was extremely slow. Waited 30 minutes just for banana fritters (though they were delicious), mains were below average I had crispy prawn and sweet chilli dip (dip was rubbish) and the crispy prawns were just average and was quite expensive over 1500 rupees for this prawn dish and banana fritters.

Overall I do recommend this hotel as its location is perfect and the staff were very accommodating. I really enjoyed my stay here!

Room Tip: Room 21 is a family room and very spacious if you have children!

I searched the internet before picking this place. We wanted by the ocean but the beach bars and noise of Mirissa itself was putting us off. When we arrived it was better than I thought it would be. Great room overlooking the garden so it was nice and quiet. Great, friendly, organised staff. Beautiful views and enough sun loungers and deckchairs to go round. Fabulous food and a great way to end our time in Sri Lanka.

Room Tip: Garden rooms quieter and cheaper, sea view rooms mean you can sit in your chair outside your room an...

I recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Mirissa. The location is superb! On the beach but still away from the crowds. They had a lot of guests with children and couples of all ages. Rooms are quite basic but clean and spacious. Our room was in a quiet corner of the property, facing the garden. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nothing to complain. They even helped us to find an electronic cigarette which my husband lost on his way from the sunbed to the room. The restaurant of this hotel was definitely one of the best we ate in during our whole holiday in Sri Lanka. Especially the grill buffet they had one night was sooo good! The beach in front of the hotel is nice, good for swimming and snorkeling. And a turtle can visit the beach occasionally!

Room Tip: The rooms in the front building facing the sea can be less peaceful because of the restaurant in fro...

Great location, at the quieter, more secluded end. With stretches of undeveloped beaches. Rooms are clean but not particularly pretty but the view makes up for that. Nice to have hot water for a change. Food service is very slow but breakfasts are wonderful. Lots of comfy sun beds & hammocks.

We spent a week here in September 2013 on our honeymoon and it was just perfect. The room was simple but meticulously clean. We didn't have air conditioning but that didn't bother us. There are plenty of rooms with AC though. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food, especially the BBQ, was exceptional. The location right on the water and in between two beaches is ideal.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have a view but upstairs is slightly more private - apart from your neighbours.

We had a nice stay at Palm Villa during the beginning of January. We stayed in room 9 that provided a seaview. The room was a triple with a double bed and one single, both under mosquito nets. We were supposed to have AC in the room and paid for this, but the AC did not work at all the first day. The room had a small porch with a sitting area and drying rack which was nice. The hotel provided bath towels and we had two power outlets in the room with one adaptor provided. The bathroom of the room was a decent size with a large shower, bad lighting and lots of ants. Also of note, the seaview for this room is partially obstucted by a large gazebo-like area for sitting and dining.

PROS
-location is nice
-easy to walk down beach to restaurant area
-restaurant had good food and good drinks for a nice price. if your stomach is upset, the grilled cheese sandwich is actually quite good
-large shower
-comfortable beds
-good fan
-on the beach
-good AC when it worked
-they lit a mosquito coil at the room door each night
-very kind and helpful staff
-arranged tuk tuk to Galle Fort for 1500Rs each way. took 30-60 minutes from hotel
-good wifi in check in area
-daily cleaning and towel change
-provide safe (we didn't use this but it is there if you feel it necessary)
-breakfast included
-not many mosquitos. we slept with windows open the first night and under the nets and had no bites.

CONS
-slow service at restaurant, had to ask several times for waiter to take order
-beach area right adjacent to water was quite small. if you want to sunbathe near the water instead of up above then you just need to walk a short distance
-strange sandy/ash tray looking thing on floor of our bathroom. looks like maybe there used to be a plant there that is now gone?
-ants everywhere in bathroom even when you close your windows with AC running
-hot water was quick to run out
-no wifi in rooms
-key to room is very large. the doors are also a little hard to figure out. once you see it locked once you will know how to do it. would have been nice to have them show us when they took us to room instead of having us sit and struggle with it for a half hour
-front gate closes at 2300...this was no problem for us because you can come in via beach at any time. this seems to be the only way you would walk around anyhow.

I liked this hotel but was not overwhelmed by it. It was certainly a good price and had simple necessities covered. However, I did not understand the rave reviews I saw on Trip Advisor. It was, however, clean and comfortable. It felt very safe, and everyone was very kind. They helped us arrange a whale watching trip which was nice. I was slightly put off when I received my bill for our two nights and was asked to pay for the AC room for both nights. The AC, however, only worked half of a day/night that we were there. I was a little upset that this was not taken into consideration and some sort of change made to what I owed. When we told them that the AC was not working they seemed to think it was because we couldn't figure out how to work it. However, they quickly saw that the whole thing was broken and it was not user error. They were in our room for a few hours during the second day working on the unit. Would have liked to have not paid the extra fee for the AC room that was not actually air conditioned. Were not offered to change rooms while they worked, so we felt like we had to stay out of room that day even though one member of our group was ill and wanting to lay down.

Overall a nice stay, but I am not sure if I would stay here again if coming back to Mirissa.

Room Tip: Room 9 is a triple that says it is a sea view. However, I would consider this more of a "partia...
