Stayed two nights at the hotel, the location was fantastic right on the beach with plenty of sun loungers, rooms are a good size and clean, the hotel does have building work going on but this did not effect the stay. The food was good with a good selection to choose from, the only down side was the ordering of drinks, it was quicker to go to a bar down the beach and when it comes to paying your bill at the end of your stay, make sure you leave enough time to go through the process, and despite paying our bill we where asked several times if we had payed and the reception even rang the restaurant to check, although they where pleasant while they did, this did seem like a very confused and badly managed reception, the manager/assistant manager was the most unfriendly person we met during our stay in Sri Lanka, he never acknowledged any of the guests and did nothing to welcome anyone, what a shame as everyone we met where so friendly and helpful.

First of all I have to say, that we are normally not that type of person who complain about everything, but this stay was really unforgettable...
We stayed during Christmas 2013 for 5 nights at the hotel. First thing we noticed was the huge 4-story-building construction site next to the pool. Indeed we have been informed about a minor renovation at the lobby by our tour operator 3 days prior to our departure, but something like this we didn't expect.
The location of the hotel is really nice. It is one of the few hotels in Mirissa, which are not directly located on the main road. On the beach you can find lot of beach bars with reasonable prices. The hotels garden is also really nice, with lots of palms and frangipani trees.
But now to the shortcomings:
- Even though the Lonely Planet states that this is the most professional hotel in Mirissa, the reception and the room service used every chance to proof their incompetence. In one out of five nights, we had the correct amount of towels in our room. Calling the reception was no solution for this problem, also not asking one of the room service guys or placing a tip on the bed. The usual answer was "5 minutes, Sir". So I ended up several evenings "stealing" towels from one of the room service carts.
- as we booked accidently a non-AC Bungalow, we tried to get an upgrade to an AC-room. It took us 5 visits at the reception and probably 3 hours of discussion and waiting, because none of the receptionist was able to understand the antique booking system which consist of several books
- the payment of our final bill was also like a scene of a bad movie. Even though the restaurant uses an electronic billing system, the cashier managed all payments with hundreds of books, files and booklets. Of course the bill was wrong. After several remarks from my side, some calls with the reception, wild calculations with the calculator and 30 min later, it was finally done ;)
- the restaurant really served the worst food, we had during our Sri Lanka trip. Furthermore the restaurant offered on Christmas Eve a special dinner. Even though we booked half-board, we should have paid 30 USD extra per person, a free alternative was not offered. The days before that big event the waiters tried to promote (really overpriced) sparkling wine and champagne (between approx. 70 and 130 USD) for the Christmas dinner in a quite aggressive way.
- the bathroom was really bad designed, each time we had a shower the whole bathroom was flooded. The absolute highlight was a shortcut of water on Christmas Eve for about one hour, so I ended up totally covered with soap and foam under the shower. Also the AC was only capable of two modes: blizzard or off. The TV didn't work as well, only when the wind was blowing in the right direction we were able to receive Al Jazeera and once even CNN

Room Tip: In no case you should take a bungalow. All are non-AC rooms with one window directly showing to the restaurant.

Our experience of this hotel was mixed. It has reasonable rooms in good state of decoration and clean. The pool is excellent and the beach very good with good swimming but requiring some care due to the currents.

We felt, despite other reviewers positive comments, that the hotel was let down by the catering especially in the evenings. The buffet was uninspiring and somewhat repetitive and barbecues consisted of an overcooked fish main with only pork steaks or chicken satay alternatives. The service was similarly split between the day and evening with poor service in the latter.

During our 2 week visit to Sri Lanka we ate to a much better standard in every other hotel/lodge in which we stayed, including a rain forest lodge of otherwise reduced standard of facilities.

The dining area was not of a suitable standard for evening meals consisting of what amounted to a large covered sandpit. We enjoy eating meals on a beach but do not expect it to be the main area for evening dining.

I would not recommend this hotel unless you are prepared to put up with mediocre food and service. Perhaps things will improve when the current building works are completed and better dining facilities added.

Hotel is right on beach, beautifully looked after gardens, with plenty of shade, just above. It is quite a large hotel, and the restaurant is being built/re-built, along with what looks like a massive extension, so they have set up the restaurant alongside the gardens on the sand - all praise to the catering and other staff, who have obviously had to be decanted and re-set-up in temporary accommodation. Food is buffet-style, and very good, with different "themes" each day. The beach is lovely, but quite busy with beachside bars & restaurants where the local fish catch is displayed each evening. The rooms as far as we could see all face forward to the sea, necessary because the hotel backs onto a wall alongside a small but very busy through-road (to harbour among other things), Staff are pleasant and helpful. Having stayed at a number of other hotels during our Sri Lankan holiday, we have to say we think this hotel was very expensive for what it offers compared to the others.

We stayed at Paradise beach for 6 nights at the end of a busy holidaying trip around Sri Lanka. This was an amazing place to stop. We were sad when we had to leave. It is reasonably priced considering you get breakfast & dinner included in the room price. The rooms are very clean and the men who clean your room are just wonderful. Couldn't do enough for you. The pool is fantastic. The beach is fantastic. The bars up the beach are great for happy hour. The buffet dinners at the hotel have a varied assortment of food to choose from.

Would definitely recommend this place to stay at if you are looking for a place to stay and just relax! Perfect!

Room Tip: Get a superior deluxe room-they are way more spacious and modern than the kabanas and the family bungalows.
