“Fantastic location; very poor service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

This hotel is located on a prime beach front property on Mirissa Bay and had a very pleasant experience in the sea. The property is well maintained and clean, though the air-conditioning in our room was not adjustable - it was either at 18C or off.
Unfortunately, the attitude of the management and senior staff (other than the waiters and life guards) was very poor and spoiled what could have been a fantastic holiday. We found that this attitude was common at several beach front restaurants that we ate at.
The quality of the food is very poor; given that fresh sea food is easily available, the lack of it was very surprising. We were there for 3 nights and no shrimp, cuttlefish/squid or crab was served and even the fish that was served was the cheapest possible and tasteless.
I would not stay overnight at Mirissa at all given the very poor quality of service in general and particularly at this Hotel.

Fantastic location on beautiful beach.
Food was excellent ( we had paid for breakfast & dinner which were buffets) & the grounds are cared for with pride.
Lunchtime you have to order & can be long wait as many people order room service.
However we had a family bungalow & the toilet/bathroom area was tiny & old. Had to continue to manually fill the cistern & gave up eventually & used the hotel public washrooms.
Other accommodation maybe better?
No hot water.
Rooms needed up dating & steps to upstairs are very steep.
$121.00 definitely too expensive for the accommodation but the beach is fantastic.

Stayed here for 4 nights in March. There are two options the small cabins in the grounds or the relatively new main building, which is more expensive but worth the extra in my opinion. You have to take at least half- board, which includes breakfast (lots of fruit, eggs cooked to order and a few other dishes etc) and a buffet dinner ( good quality buffet, lots of choice, local and international dishes, they have a beach bbq once a week), you can also eat at the little fish restaurant next door, take wine from the restaurant bar, fish caught that day doesn't get any better. There is a free Internet facility and free wifi in the grounds but this is normally pretty slow. The service is not that great but staff are friendly but with a little patience and perseverance all is well. The beach is top quality but the waves are quite powerful, wonderful listening to them crash on the beach. This is a great area to get away from it all, go before it gets over-developed!

Room Tip: Unless you are on a budget go for one of the rooms in the main hotel.

Initially it looks wonderful...right on the beach, great pool, sun lounges, cabanas, the works (including wifi!) but I have quickly found that there is a price. For example, they don't tell you that you have to leave your key when you leave the resort...they just don't clean your room. When queried they just say that your key wasn't available to get into the room. I'm not sure what the answer would be I'd you were actually at the resort all day. I would guess that you still wouldn't get your room cleaned because they only have the one key to get into your room. Oh and the cabanas...they look great, up until its midday and then they are stifling because there is only one tiny window...and nothing dries. And because you haven't left your key at reception whilst you have been at the pool they haven't cleaned your room. Oh and don't forget to check whether you are expected for dinner even if you haven't paid for it...we were awoken by a knock on the door at 9:30pm (holiday = early bed) asking if we were coming to dinner because they were waiting for us! And finally...don't bother with the laundry. It is a two day service to start with, and obviously, if they don't have your room key then you have to chase it up yourself. After over a week traveling through the hill country and down, this place has been the worst even though it wasn't the cheapest...looking forward to moving on! My recommendation: choose one of the B&B's along the beach. Paradise beach it may be but the service leaves a lot to be desired...personally, I wouldn't stay here again.

We are residents of Sri Lanka and when we want a relaxing, peaceful get away for a long weekend, we book here. They only offer half- board or full - board. I highly recommend only going with half- board. The food is 'ok' - mostly traditional Sri Lankan and this can get a bit tiring if on a long weeks holiday. The hotel offers the only pool on the beach - great for families with small children. If, however, you are allergic to mold, beware! Some of the bathroom showers need a good 'kill'. Also a down side is they do not have coffee/ tea making facilities in the room. this is actually very unusual for most sri lankan hotels. we end up bring our own kettle, cups and french press!Over all...good value for money if you want sun, sand and sea!

Room Tip: Upper floor has a wonderful view of the sea

My friend and I stayed here the night of 13th Oct 2012. Given that the weather was quite pleasant we opted for the non-AC cabana for $60 a night inclusive of buffet dinner and breakfast, which constitutes as Half-Board. They only offer Half-Board or Full-Board (includes lunch as well) accommodation. The buffet dinner was nothing to write home about. But usually buffet meals are like that. The rooms were clean and well equipped – beautiful heavy wooden bed and almirah and a clean shower with running hot water. It’s a beach property so we had to take barely 15 steps before our toes were in the Indian Ocean. After a lovely walk on the beach, we tucked in for a mosquito-free night and were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves. The morning view was just breath-taking! We were headed whale-watching and hence woke up with the sun. That early morning sun on the beach made the sand glisten in a way I’ve never seen before. Check-out was at noon, so when we got back from whale-watching at 11 (spotted 3 Blue Whales), we had enough time for a quick swim in the ocean and another hot shower.

We just returned from the Paradise Beach Club where we spent 7 nights. We loved it. Although I read before that the service is not good I am glad now that we booked it anyway. We had really good relation with the staff and they helped with all our requests. We also had some mosquitos (was still rainy season) but we could use the net above the bed (when we asked the cleaning boy to spread the net over the bed he even took it down before and cleaned it completely). We loved the beach and the atmosphere there. You could always have your beach beds at the beach without problems, the life-guards at the hotel carried them for you. Having the breakfast and dinner at the beach terrace was an extra plus! I would definitively come back.
