“A great break”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

We were a group of 7 travelling second week of jan 2013.

The first reaction was-omg, what have we booked as our car took as us down a dirt track. But then, on arrival, that all changed. Great location. The staff are very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. 2 of the 3 groups were allocated rooms with outside showers. These showers have no lights so, as it gets very dark farily early, bathing was a little difficult. But on telling the staff this, we got lamps, which made showering a unqiue experience!

Some of us are also vegetarians, and again, on telling the F&B manager this, we had one of the best meals during our stay. The evening prior, there were a couple of singers, who made sure we had a great eveing.

Overall, whilst there was a language issue which made certain things difficult, and the service was slow, both of which are common all over Sri Lanka, the rooms are very comfortable and the staff have a great attitude. Would book this place again.

Strange little hotel - although probably the best in the area. We had the corner suite - which was enourmous - but no chair - no wifi - very sparse indeed. The balcony doors had to be wrentched open. Each request, such as a glass of coke - has to be discussed, reported on and conferenced with three different people, often including a manger - thereafter, an invoice is issued (wait while they find the carbon paper) in triplicate - then it goes to a 'cashier' and finally back to you to sign. We took to buying our own at the nearby town - which was a delight in itself. Try hard - but sadly don't have a clue. This has the possibility of being a fabulous hote - it's right on the beach (with barbared wire between you and the sea). The restaurant is inside and stuffy - although there is a great beach restaurant nearby. We found it very tedious to keep explaining what we wanted - that we just wrote our requests eg toilet paper and left it at the desk - this system worked well.

Room Tip: Stay here and enjoy authentic Sri Lanka but don't expect europen mod cons. Ask for a room with...

It has been an unplanned stop with no reservation.
The hotel is located in a rather weird area. When you come in it's nice and the funny way there doesn't matter at all. You get your room and they are very nicely done. A real boutique style. If you look closer you see that maintenance of the room is not very far gone. But ist is still acceptable for the country. It's not dirty but you see there is no control of service level for the rooms. The shutters don't work and are partly torn and so on.
The ral mess starts when you hit the restaurant. Service staff is a disaster. Nobody takes care of you. We waited for ages until somebody came but after getting our drinks we saw that other ones had been ignored even longer. Most of the wines are not there and the food is mostly pommes and none Sri Lankian.
No way I would go theer again because they know what to charge.

This hotel has an excellent location. The rooms are very good. We got the room near the pool which also had a private plunge pool in the room. Room was huge and very nice. only issue was that they only have an outdoor shower and no indoor shower which can be an issue when it is raining.

The food is not very good at the hotel and waiters are also very inefficient. Most of our orders had issues and it was the same for most people staying at the hotel.

What a great hotel. Entering from the main road, I thought to myself what have I booked? But on reaching th hotel and looking at the rooms I was pleased with myself for having opted for that hotel. The rooms were brilliant.
The downside was the restaurent services were awfully slow. And since this hotel is located quite far from the hotel, you have no choice but to use their dining rooms. If there is one improvement they need then thats their restaurant services. The beach is also not clean but thats not the hotels fault.

We opted to stay at Mandara Boutique Resort as part of a 17 day tour of Sri Lanka. We were recommended to go whale watching and Mirissa is a great area to take a whale watching trip. Mandara is set alongside the beach, with a great view of the sea. We were given a spectacular room at the top of the property which looked out across the ocean - the windows provided an almost floor to ceiling panoramic view - just fantastic. The bathroom was huge with a walk in shower and a massive jacuzzi tub. The amenities (shower gel etc could do with some improvements). The welcome was wonderful - we were given beautiful welcome necklaces made of flowers and the staff were wonderful. The breakfast was good - there was the usual choice of cereal, and hot and cold buffet. We did not eat at the property in the evening as we wanted to go out and experience Sri Lankan food outside of the hotel. The property could do with some updating - the restaurant area needs modernising and the pool could do with some work - but the room made our stay,

The Property is newly constructed and have all sort of facilities what a traveler wants. Room is spacious and bath tub is of king size. The Pool and beach is super. At the time of our visit the staff in the hotel are very good and helpful. Many a time they volunteered to show us the near by places of tourist interest including snack park.

The Food though good but we are not that satisfied hence we customized the same with the help of the chef.
