We went out with Lamin to various locations in Gambia and he never failed to amaze us with his expertise and knowledge. 189 species for a week's bird watching. Fantastic. Quiet and unassuming we highly recommend him.

We have just returned from our first visit to the Gambia and luckily read the Tripadvisor recommendations of Musaa and booked our trips with him by e mail before we left. We had two separate day trips to different habitats and incorporated visits to Nature Reserves, fishing villages and outlying villages. He is very professional and his knowledge of birds is unrivalled and unbelievable. He can spot birds you could never see yourself and brings accompanying literature and writes you a list of what you have seen at the end of each day. All transport and entry fees to reserves are include in his prices and he accepts ££ Euros and Dallasis.and his prices are VERY reasonable. You are getting a private guide who really loves and knows his birds and is enthusiastic and entertaining and a really lovely and trustworthy man .He will tell you whatever you want to know about Gambian life and culture . We cannot recommend him highly enough. Had we had a longer holiday we would have booked him for a few more trips. He will do a tailor made tour for you, taking you to see the things and places you want to see and at a pace that is comfortable for you. We had one tour operator's trip that was more expensive and half as good and we had to share our guide. If he is fully booked he can get you another guide, his friend Maddi joined us for one day and he knew a lot about his habitat too. We came across other groups who looked at us enviously when they saw how much we were spotting. Mussaa very unselfishly went over and pointed birds out to them, such is his love of his subject. I took lots of good photos with a normal digital camera(not slr).I haven't named the birds in case I get them wrong! I'm waiting for my delivery of my 'Birds of the Gambia' book (Musaa has a copy with him for you to refer to.) If you have a decent camera and lenses you'll get some magnificent ones. If you are lucky enough to find he is free, do book him. You wont regret it. His contact details are:- musaamanneh56@yahoo.com (+220) 7834098

I used Lamin (njlelaminb@yahoo.com; Tel 00220 9856366) on our bird trip to Marakissa and four other trips including a 3 day one to Tendaba. He was a very experienced guide and knew many calls and songs which he could make with his mouth. He also had all Gambian bird calls on his potable CD player. He knew where everything was and was very enthusiastic and wanted to show me as much as possible and for me to get to know them which was very satisfying. He was also very authoritative which was very useful on our trip to Tendaba Camp where there was a room issue. He made sure I had a great time and came home with a large trip list.

My wife and I recently returned to the Gambia for a bird watching tour. On a previous trip we had used Ousman and had been delighted with all aspects of his service, so it was no surprise that on returning we contacted him again. He is highly professional, punctual, smart, polite and very enthusiastic. He takes great care to ensure that we both got good views of each of the species.

His knowledge of birds and their habitats and calls is second to none. Since our last trip he has undertaken a lot of research to identify new sites for special species and he has developed a network of local contacts who help him locate roosting sites. He also impressed us with his knowledge of the birds habits and his general natural history awareness which made our trips into ther various habitats that much more rewarding.

An excellent guide yoiu will not be disappointed.

We booked Musa again this year before we left for the Gambia, and had 2 more great bird trips with him. Musa's knowledge about birds, their habitat and calls is tremendous, and he goes all out to make sure you see as many as possible. He's friendly, enthusiastic, trustworthy and helpful, and will plan a birdwatching trip for you, or build one that takes in places you want to visit. We combined one trip with a visit to Tanji to watch the fishing catch being sold on the beach. Having Musa there meant we learned a lot more about it, and could be on the beach amongst it all without feeling too conspicuous. If you're a bird fan, Musa is an excellent and experienced guide. And even if you're not yet a fan, you will be after a trip with him!
