We had a family holiday at DIYAMBA recently. We occupied the whole resort. The kids had an absolute blast! (ranging from 15yrs- 9 months) The staff maintain a very warm and friendly atmosphere. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and clean. Food is value for money. The kids had a ball with their trip dolphin watching and snorkeling. They saw a countless number of Dolphins doing their little stunts and entertaining them. They were delighted!
Diyamba, to me, is the ideal example of Sri Lankan Hospitality we were used to in the past. Simple and absolutely relaxing for both young and old!

My wife, two children, and I were blown away by the level of service we received from the family friendly staff at Diyamba. We were treated like kings and queens. The staff loved my children very well and paid very close attention to my 1 year old's egg allergy. The food is amazing ... generous portions and a great selection. The rooms are very clean and comfortable ... even with two children under age 3!

Room Tip: Treat yourself to the chalet. They're beautiful.

I have been to Diyamba twice in the last couple of years and I've had an amazing time. It's an ideal place to enjoy what kalpitiya has to offer . Great beach, Dolphin watching, Snorkeling and amazing food specially the sea food !!

Diyamba is you basic facilities but the rooms, toilets and linen are very clean and comfortable it's a great value for the price you pay.

The service is fantastic you can get pretty much anything you want made by the kitchen staff.

I loved the sea food we had for lunch and dinner specially the lagoon crab.

The property has their own boat service that will take you dolphin watching and snorkeling at the bar reef. This is an experience not to be missed!!

I highly recommend Diyamba as great place to enjoy what Kalpitiya has to offer. It is definitely value for money. I will most certainly be going there again.

We stayed few days at this resort which faces a really marvellous white sand beach surrounded by beautiful coconut trees. They offer 3 different room types,we had a standard one which was quite comfortable but I found very basic the economy one where we had to move the last day as no bathroom and bed was just a mattress on the floor, we had to shower outside and the shower room was quite poor with some frogs around in the evening. Both rooms have glass and dry leaves walls so you dont have absolutely any privacy as they see everything from outside.
The room was cleaned once in 3 days.
Breakfast was nice although omelettes were cooked in advance and often arrived quite cool, the other meals were rather disappointing, the choise was poor. As far as fish I had three times exactly the same sort of grilled fish- sometimes fresh sometimes less fresh- vegetables were always the same, the soup offered at dinner time was from a packet so the colour changed but the taste remained the same. Dessert was an optional, offered only sometime
There was no price list,we asked for white wine and wanted to know the price but the waiter replyed that he didnt know it, we discovered the cost of drinks only when we payed the bill. The cost of lunch was expensive
When we booked the room last October we had to send the full amount of half board accomodation and I found that very unusual, never happened anywhere else in Sri Lanka where I have been at least a dozen of times.
Pity as the location is lovely and the beach really wonderful

Room Tip: Better to book the luxury room at least you enjoy some privacy

We were surprised and somewhat disappointed to see this review as we asked the client’s boyfriend at the time of check out and paying the bill if everything was good and he said “everything was great.” However we would like to clarify a few inaccurate statements the client has made.

The client’s boyfriend booked 3 nights and after the 3rd night informed us that he had made a mistake and they needed a room til 10pm. As we were fully booked for the type of room that the client had, we made a concession and offered the boyfriend a couple different options at extremely reduced rates and after seeing both options he chose the Economy Rooms which are camping style accommodations. Additionally, we clean the rooms as often as the client requests or every 3 days as most of our clients tend to be long stay residents and we are an eco-friendly resort.

In response to the meals, the guests were there for 8 meals other than breakfast and serving fish 3 times is the norm unless the client requests otherwise. The clients were served Kingfish, Mullet and Trivally on the 3 different occasions. The fish are bought fresh daily and right off the fishermen’s boat in front of Diyamba. Soup is made from scratch and our open style kitchen allows anyone to observe the happenings inside. We encourage our guests to take a look when they come

We encourage any traveller to look at our website and pictures prior to booking the type of room and it is common practice on all hotel booking sites to take payment at time of booking.

Regardless, Tony and Rafi, thanks for visiting Diyamba we will make note of your comments and use it to improve in areas that are possible to better serve our future clients.

I visited Diyamba with some family and friends in January and I can truly say that it was a fantastic experience. The location is phenomenal and the atmosphere created by ownership is relaxing and refreshing and I wish we were able to stay there longer. The food was great and is great value for money. The service is personalized and non-intrusive. I have traveled and stayed at a lot of nature/eco type places and this was one of the best experiences I have had.

We will definitely be coming back because there is a lot more we want to do there including snorkeling at the reef, although just going to Diyamba to relax on vacation is not a bad option at all... Highly Recommended. AAA+++

We had a 2 night stay here in one of the beach chalets which was comfortable and quite attractive with 4 big windows at the front facing the beach with nice matchstick blinds. This is a very small resort with a number of different room types to suit most budgets. The patio area at the front of our chalet was well furnished with lots of chill out comfy furniture - sofa, beach lounge, swing seat, timber seats. Very nice spot to read a book. The dining/lounge area was also an appealing place to relax and dine in. The service here was friendly and attentive although not particularly speedy but the owners explained that they like to employ locals rather than get trained and experienced hospitality staff in from elsewhere. The Kalypitiya peninsula is quite undeveloped and feels quite isolated but we enjoyed our walks along the beach lined with hundreds of palm trees, populated by donkeys and fishermen. It was quite windy while we were there which I kind of liked at night hearing the palm fronds rustling in the breeze.

Surprisingly dinners here were quite western in style with chicken, vegetables and coleslaw the first night and delicious prawns and the same veggies the next night. Soup was also served as entree and desert was included for the $10 US per meal. Our daughter's meal was half that. Massive Sri Lankan breakfasts of curry, rice, sambol, fruit and lovely fresh bread and jam compensated for the slightly expensive evening meals (compared to meals we had elsewhere in Sri Lanka). Personally, I would have loved the Sri Lankan curries as the evening meal and a more western style of breakfast. Overall though, we found our stay here relaxing and pleasant and the owners have done well to create such a nice little oasis. Thank you.

Me and my girlfriend had been away travelling for over 2 1/2 years and our visit to Diyamba resort for 3 nights was supposed to be a nice treat for us at the end of our trip but it sadly didnt turn out like that.
We opted for the economy room which cost us close to $40 a night overall through Agoda and although it was the cheapest room it was still really nice and had loads of character. It consisted of a double bed which was on the floor with a large mosquito net that did a pretty good job keeping the mozzies out and was surrounded by 4 bamboo walls. We also had an outdoor seating area which is shared between the two economy rooms but luckily on our visit we were the only people there for the most part. There is also a common bathroom which caused no problems while we were there but i can imagine that when all the rooms are there plus any outside guests then it may become a little busy. The outdoor shower was also a little troublesome for my girlfriend as it leaves very little privacy. It didnt help that the all-male staff hang about outside the kitchen which is right next to the shower and made it unintentionally a little uncomfortable for her when showering.

We were a little surprised when we arrived at the resort as it was much smaller than we imagined and there website gives very little away. The beach was also very disappointing as it was not the white sand beach with clear blue water that we had been expecting. Fair enough that on our visit the weather wasnt great but the beach was very rugid and wasnt as picturesque as we imagined.

The main problem we had during our stay was regarding the limited menu they offered. We had contacted ahead of our visit to see if it was possible to get a much cheaper menu and we would obviously expect much less food or lesser quality at least. On arrival it turned out that this message hadnt been passed on so we had to eat dinner there for $10 per person which was easily 10x more than what we had been used to paying. The food was delicious and great quality and came in 3 courses but at the same time we could have easily eaten half the amount and happily paid half the price. We ended up eating dinner here all 3 nights because there is absolutely nowhere else nearby that even sells snacks and ended up skipping lunch to save money. We managed to negotiate a cheaper cost of $7 but still we were given silly amounts of noodles and rice which again could have easily been halved for half the price. They just didnt get what we were asking for.
Anyway, the food we got we cannot complain about as it was delicious although very simple and the complimentary breakfast was great and once again huge (this helped us miss lunch).
We were surprised though that when it came to finally paying the bill that they had added 10% on to all of our costs. Considering the food was expensive already we thought this was a bit ridiculous and it also turned out we were paying over 200r per bottle of water which was easily double what we had paid anywhere else.

The final nuisance we had was that we had to actually negotiate with a guy who apparently worked at the resort to get a cheaper price in the tuk tuk back to the main road. We had actually been sent an email before our visit telling us it would cost 200r and it did on the way there, but for some reason the guy was trying to charge us 300r!!! even though we were their guests. We ended up getting him down to 250r and he still managed to turn up 20 minutes late in the morning even though he had been hanging around not long before.

To get to and from the resort requires quite a bit of travelling but its not too difficult.
From Puttalam it cost us 75r each and 50r for a seat for our bags for the 1 1/2 journey which dropped us off at a junction. From here you then get a tuk tuk for 200r to the resort.
On the way back you will need to get a tuk tuk back to the main road and just wait for a bus to pass. It is possible to get ones straight to Colombo from here but those are infrequent so its best to go from Puttalam.
From Puttalam to Colombo costs around 125r for the 3 hour journey.

Overall, i wouldnt return to Diyamba resort. Even though it was nice enough i just dont think it is worth the money and i would much prefer to spend much less to get a few more tourists in a place like Mirissa. We even stopped a night in Negombo after here and the beach and water was much nicer which was unexpected.
