so i was dead keen on getting to the bar reef having read lots about the crystal clear waters with the potential for one of the best snorkelling in sri lanka- so way hey
i searched for accommodation and was put off by high prices until i found this place
easy to book with paypal over the net 100USD for standard double room with bar reef trip 100 use although we split the fare and paid 70 usd for a combined snorkelling/dolphin watch-
kalpitya is not much of a town to speak off but has nice beach spaces-
diyamba is located on a lovely stretch with a lagoon adjacent. the set up is shabby chic with a lovely ambalama /restaurant area overlooking the sea/lagoon with antique cosy furnishings
our room was open style with bamboo blinds for walls ( people may have issues with privacy )
however it meant that at night you were sleeping wide open to nature calling which was quite blissful-the food was delicious -local fare and bbq graciously served by the staff who were very warm and inviting- the dolphin trip was amazing and the bar reef spectacular -crystal clear water and tons of fish-wow couldn't believe that i was in sri lanka !1
so thanks guys at diyamba for a great trip

To us this place is all about location. Meaning: You will have an almost empty vast private beach to yourself. Just some fishermen, who won't bother you, if you don't want to. You will have to walk about 5 minutes from the hotel to the sea, crossing a stretch of sandy beach and a shallow river. The beach is 'natural', not cleaned.
The accomodation (we had the economy room) was 'cute'. The stuff was very friendly, although we had to ask twice for an extra towel or bedsheet. The shared bathroom is not practical if you have kids, but they let us use the bathroom in one of the standard rooms.
The food was delicious, which is good, as there are no restaurants around.

I was shocked when I read the review of LianiM, because the true is that Diyamba Beach Resort is an idyllic place offering very pleasant accommodation and services and not to forget the delicious food.
It is the only eco and guest friendly resort on the beach, a relieve after many too posh and too tourist focused standard resorts.
My husband and I were at Diyamba at the very start of the resort. We came back with friends and we were positively surprised with the developments and enjoyed our stay so very much that we are now regular visitors.. We booked again for March and friends for April (not 30 persons at one go but just the number of persons we book for ) and we recommend all beach and nature lover to share this lovely experience.

Room Tip: The brick rooms give more privacy and with very small children will be safe there. The standard room...

Dont be deceived by the 'glossy' pictures on www.diyamba.com it really looks pretty average and extremely expensive for what you get! see the photos attached. The price is 4* for less than 2* accommodation. As for the meals, our booking was made 6 months prior, yet half of our group had to wait more than 30 min until the second batch of rice was cooked! When we went to see the kitchen, there was only one rice cooker for the entire hotel. Dinner was two dishes and rice for vegetarians, again they knew about it prior. There was no drivers accommodation which is usually free of charge in most places in Sri Lanka. Diyamba charged drivers the full rate + for meals.

I would not recommend this place at all!

Although we recommend to our clients that our true capacity for efficient handling is approximately 20 people, some choose to push and insist that they will accommodate the inconveniences if they have more in their party. Our facility is definitely not equipped for over 30 people. When this reservation was made and the deposit paid, these items were communicated clearly to the lead organizer of the trip (who was resident in Sri Lanka) via email and phone conversations. Over time 10+ people were added to the party. Unfortunately that was not effectively communicated from them to other members of their party (including the residents of Australia) in order to manage their expectations. Additionally, we charge $10 for driver accommodations and meals per day. This is far from our full rate as displayed clearly on our website.

For families and small groups, you will find Diyamba an enjoyable experience, as stated in most of our other reviews.

If you avoid the rush hours then you can avoid wasting time in traffic and be fresh for the long drive ahead. The drive from Wennapuwa onward is quite easy and event free. Beyond this point however there is hardly any place to stop for a decent snack... So take water and edibles of your choice on the drive (we lot eat all the time). The place itself is quiet and well maintained. It is not ultra luxurious or anything but clean, well kept and with practical attention to detail. The people working there are also generally helpful. Food could have been better and the flies become a menace. But other than that we had a pleasant stay all in all.
