“A great day out.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

About 15 of us went on the ale trail to celebrate a double stag doo. What a brilliant day. We got the 11am train out of Manchester Victoria and were at the first pub in Batley by 12:20.

It was a fairly sunny day which made drinking in beer gardens a great option.

I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone.

“Birthday trip by rail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

Had seen this on TV and thought it would be a goo idea for my birthday weekend. Great idea! Little pubs just near or in the station selling some real ale, just get off the train, have a drink or two and get back on the next train.
Simple really but did get a bit busy at some stops with several hen parties. All added to the atmosphere and good laugh had by all.

“Excellent day out!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

We set off from Victoria Station at 12:35 in a group of 14 the train journey was very good no problems once we arrived at Huddersfield we went to one of the platform pubs which was again fantastic the staff were very helpful with the choice of beers which was great for me as I have never tried real ale before.
I decided on a Farmers Blonde (good choice) after an hour in Huddersfield we moved on to Greenfields one hour on we were on the move again this time staying for two hours in Marsden. We were going to eat at the best chippy in the country but it didn't open until the 24th.
The consisted of one or two hour stops at most of the stations on the way back finishing in Stalybridge we arrived back at Victoria at 22:45.
If you are thinking of going on this ale trail do it especially in a group & if you've never tried real ale give it try it is a great day.

“great weekend away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Did the trip on a cold weekend in March . not too crowded , didn't have to stand on the train and got served resonably well in the pubs. stayed overnight at the Cambridge Hotel ( about 10 mins from Huddersfield Station) and went out for a curry in the evening. Can recommend the hotel and the Sportsman pub that you pass on the way to the hotel.
Best to do this trip in the winter or mid week , judging by comments and the recently shown programme on the TV .

“Do some planning in advance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Great day out and lots of other people you meet up with again and again throughout the day. Done this 4 times over last two years and a little bit of planning in advance does help. We go from Victoria as far as Huddersfield and all stops in between. Spend longer in Marsden as there are 3 pubs in the village. Suggest Staylbridge - Marsden - Huddersfiled on way out and Slaithwaite and Greenfield on way back.
