I grew up in Halifax and as a teenager we used to camp at Hubbards Beach Campground every summer for the long weekends for years & years. It is a smaller campground that offers a combination of RV Trailer space, some permanent fixtures (ie. RV's/w decks that stay the year) and tenting down the back closer to the beach.

There is a small cantine with delicious beach eats (fresh french fries, burgers & hotdogs & of course ice cream) all reasonably priced. To tent it costs around $30 or so for a weekend (fri & sat) and pets are welcome. There is a beautiful beach down the end of the campground only a 5minute walk away with white sand and clear ocean for swimming, the water is very warm at the height of the summer and continues unti the end of September.

There are usually groups of 'regulars' that enjoy this campground every weekend and if you go walking you are bound to find a couple parties going on with bonfires, music & good times. Everyone is very friendly and its easy to meet new people there. If the Bonfire & Beers is not your thing there is also a full service restaurant and dance hall on the property called The Shore Club which serves lobster dinners & hosts live music & events each weekend during the summer months.

For weekend camping with your family & pets I have found Hubbards Campground to be of good value, and we have always had lots of fun.

Well we stayed there to be close to the wedding party ,that stayed at the Rosewood. The cabin was so small you had to go outside to change your mind & that was the 2 bedroom, everything in there came a flea market including the sheets. To have 4 people in there is 2 to many, the wiring is exposed the sink & toilet are off the common area & the room with bunk beds so if someone is in the bedroom they are locked in if someone is in the bathroom. There are no railings on the top bunks so beware if you have children who could roll off. The shower is off the second bedroom so there is little to no privacy. There is only a pad lock on the outside of the door so if you are inside the cabin there is no way to lock it. We had two girls who needed to get ready and no room to do it. This place was a total and utter rip off and we would highly suggest you look somewhere else. There is only a hotplate to cook on & you can't drink the water because of arsenic!!! and they only provide drinking water at one site on the campground.I should have known when I booked it & they billed me right away oh & good luck if you try and cancel, even if you give them adequate notice!!!

Let's start at the beginning. The reservation process was excellent. We had no problem contacting them or arranging for the dates we want.

When we arrived. Checkin was excellent and the staff are friendly. We went to our spot and from there on it went downhill.

The spots were very tightly packed together with almost no room to extend our awning. The number of the spots are taken up by what looked like to be permanent residents. Their units are junky, old and in need of repair.
Our unit was located close to three large garbage receptacles and so we had an abundance of flies.

The beach was said to be a highlight. Our grandchildren enjoyed the sound but there was so much seaweed on the beach that we had little desire to enter the water.

So we have stayed at the Hubbards Beach Campground once before.. we were "shifted" into a tiny, uneven spot not fit for a trailer that had a large boulder and low trees.. good for tents and pop ups, not so much for trailers with slides or any height. We decided to take a chance a go again. I called 6 weeks ago to reserve the spot, clearly stating that even though they insisted on charging for 2 nights on a weekend, we would only be staying one night. "Emily" told me no worries, lots of room, not in the same spot we were before and she would mark the "late check in". I then called 3 weeks out to confirm. "Robin" told me no worries, that she checked the book and left a big note stating that we should not be moved or switched.. I again confirmed we would not be there until Saturday and was told OK.

We showed up today (Saturday, July 21st) at 10:30am and were told that not only were our names NOT in the book, but that the one listing for a 28' trailer (no name written down) hadn't shown up on Friday, so they goave the spot away... That would have been our reservation. We were told that "Robin", who was the owner's daughter, didn't actually work there.. what does that mean to me? To them it means the reservation was null and void because she's not "staff"??? We were turned away at the gate with no apologies, no offer for a "raincheck", no options..

Like Disney these people will take you for a ride.. unlike Disney they leave a bad taste in your mouth to go with it... do yourself a favor and save yourself the aggravation.

My friend and I rented a three bedroom cottage for a week enticed by the private looking photos of the rustic cabins and promised proximity to the beach. The weekly rate was $1,095 plus tax.

We were surprised to find our cottages with a view of a crowded campground and a more than10 minute walk to the beach. The website promised that the cottages were on the water or a few minute walk and were set-up for housekeeping. The cottages were rustic which was fun but not well stocked. Clearly they do not review after guests check out to make sure everything is well available for the next customers. There were no tongs for the bbq, no baking dishes or muffin tins and the salt was empty. The toilet paper and bbq lighter both needed to be replenished. The fireplace was nice but the wood was wet and there was a small poker only. The oven and stove did not work properly. The owners did make available the missing items and repair the stove (sort of), but it was a hassle to have ask and I must say that the customer service was not enthusiastic.

I would also note that the campground was very noisy at night. And did I mention the construction work in the back of our cabin to address sewage odor issues? The knives are dull, the can opener doesn't work well, all that kind of thing just poor.

All this and we have four nights to go. We're not having a terrible time but that's really because we are making the best of a situation. I think that there are better options near Halifax and near the beach and for this price point.
