“Holidaying like a movie star”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We stayed a week at Villa Casa Fontana at the start of September with friends (total 2 couples all of us early 50's). We had a ball. Despite all those steps we found it best to park the car halfway down the hill and walk one of the many pedestrian walkways that follow the contour. Of course when catching a lake ferry then you must traverse the steps - there are a lot (250 aprox) so you need to be reasonably fit. That aside, the villa had everything we needed; a well appointed kitchen incl' dishwasher. A clothes washer (but no heating cycle, but that's what a string line is for). We ate outside when home (take some bug spray), but the kitchen table will seat 6 at a pinch if conditions force you inside. There are some really nice restaurants within walking distance too. Banana lounges (x4) on the lower terrace allow for relaxing and reading on a small astro-turfed area. A BBQ on the upper terrace is available for guest use with an easy to light heat tray, along with a large solid table - remember the insect repellent.
The bathrooms are also clean and modern, and the water is hot too. The upstairs bathroom is accessed through the upper bedroom so is private, but the downstairs bathroom requires a quick 2 step dash from bedroom to bathroom in full view of those sitting at the kitchen table (pack a bath robe). We'd recommend the lower bedroom for the early risers and the upper bedroom for sleepyheads. There is no air-conditioning, but all windows are double glazed and have shutters, and insect screens.
We had a thoroughly AbFab time at Casa Fontana exploring Como, and villages in the other direction. Highly recommend staying here.

Liked best: Looking out across the lake - morning, noon and evening, day and night.
Liked least: After a lot of thinking, maybe mosquitoes.

“Chic, tranquil, comfortable and luxurious: not to be missed!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Conveniently close to the Milan airports, Villa Casa Fontana is really a treat not to be missed and an easily accessible escape from the everyday. Of course the area all around Como is magical and you don't need me to encourage you to visit to savour the splendour of the scenery, food and wine, but this property is a perfect blend of new and traditional which I urge you not to miss. The owner has taken care to provide everything you could need while staying at the property, which is elegant and stylish as well as being comfortable, The beds were fantastically comfortable with beautiful linens and the shared spaces were large, varied and attractive. As others have said, the Lookout is spectacular: I can't imagine a more perfect way to unwind than to gaze at the magnificent view with a glass or 3 of something lovely to hand. The only minus? We didn't bump into George (Clooney), which is some feat as he literally lives 3 minutes walk away!! I'll be back....often.

“Fabulous place, fantastic views.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Loved staying here. Everything needed for a comfortable stay was in place. All the home comforts were there, and it was scrupulously clean. The views from every room were just stunning. Garden/terrace was charming, and a lovely spot for early morning coffee, meals, lounging in the sun, etc. There were two early morning visits by rather nosy neighbourhood dogs, but the gardeners helped sort out the problem. The only slight downside were the 250 steps and no designated parking space. Although the steps did make the decision of whether or not to have a pudding when dining out much easier, as the excercise needed to get back home negated the extra calories!

Management Response

Hi It's Helen, my partner George and I are so pleased you enjoyed your time at our home in Italy, and like us grasped the guilt free puddings the 'devils staircase' allowed you. So sorry about your unexpected visitors - the dogs. It turns out they came from three gardens away and managed to squeeze through a gap in our neighbours fence, a section of which has now been replaced and is completely secured. Hope to see you back again some time soon on the lake. Helen

Management Response

Andrew and Julie,

Many thanks for the feedback and comments. We have organised new sunbeds now. We rely somewhat on customer feedback as the home is full most weeks at the start of the season.Items are tested and replaced if necessary however with a changeover of guests each weekend it is not always possible to spot any damage quickly. If guests request at the time we will always do our utmost to respond quickly so i would urge you in future to contact us during and not after your stay where we can address any issues asap.
We also have plenty of crockery available in the home. If guests request additional items we are always prepared to listen and organise where relevant. The steps are advertised, of course it takes us around 3 minutes to walk these stairs and we think it is worthwhile for the stunning view! That said we do state clearly on every advert that the home is not suitable elderly, infirm, very young or guests below an average fitness (although there is a longer 10 minute walk mainly on the flat to the home if you do not want to take the steps)

Thanks once more for the reveiw and feedback and thankyou for choosing the home.

Kind regards
Julie
