We had a fantastic holiday! We (a German family of four) stayed one week at the end of June in Villa Nina. The Villa is amazing – a lovely charming old-style villa which has been renovated and decorated with great taste. We had both rooms in the villa and more than enough space – two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Specially the Lake suite is amazing: all the large windows are facing the lake, there is a huge ensuite-bathroom, two terraces and even a little balcony. The decoration of the rooms is done with great taste and there is enough space to fit all the clothes.
And the location of the villa: just perfect! Villa Nina is on the hill-side of the street, but Carate Urio is a quiet town and traffic is no issue. You don’t have to cross the street to reach the lake, a small iron bridge from the lovely pergola spans over the street. On the lake side property of Villa Nina there is a large sun terrace facing the lake and a lawn area with big trees to spend shadow. Just a few steps down, you will find the private access to the lake. As Villa Nina only rents out three rooms and we happened to book two of them and the other guest not showing up, we basically had our own little paradise directly on the Lake. If you are looking for true recreation, if you want to avoid crowded beaches and you don’t want to feel like a tourist, Villa Nina is the B&B for you. We valued the fact even more as we realised that Lago di Como has very few public spots where you can access the lake. Just one word for families with children: We recommend that your children are safe swimmers. The lake is very deep – around the area of the villa around 14 meters – and it can be dangerous for non-swimmers. But we knew it beforehand: Federico told us about that already on the phone before we did the booking.
Ref. breakfast, even for us Germans, breakfast was much more than typical Italian breakfast: coffee, tea, milk, water, bread, jams, honey, cereals, cookies, eggs, fruits and yogurt were standard every day, and a little extra each day: ham, ricotta or bresaola. And the sitting area is very charming: The design table and chairs are located at the bottom of the lovely stone staircase while modern art pieces are displayed around the walls. Have a look on the photo of the Villa Nina website, it gives a really good impression. This is true for all the fotos – yes, it is a little paradise hide-away!
Last but not least, Federico and Claudia are great hosts and treat their guest like their friends. Some examples: they welcomed our girls (6 and 8) with open arms - Claudia even bought Nutella and another type of cereals which they liked more on the second day, the beds are covered with luxurious bed linen, we always got new towels when we needed more, there were design classics and antique furniture in the house and in our rooms. And they were always there for us to help with recommendations and booked really good restaurants for us. Federico offers also a boat ride around the sea which gives a great impression of the amazing properties in the area. Carate Urio itself has a convenient location: most of the main sights and towns can be reached easily by car or even by boat/ferry from there.
We all loved the stay in Villa Nina and can highly recommend it for a super holiday!
