The first meal at Ristorante Bella Vista was lunch. We arrived at our holiday accommodation in the early afternoon and our host drove us up to the restaurant.
Fortunately, our host drove, as the drive, particularly the last couple of hundred metres in the village was "interesting". Once we arrived at the restaurant our breath was taken away by the "bella vista". We enjoyed a glass of prosecco on the trerrace overlooking the lake far below and the area of Milan, which this day was shrouded in mist.
Though the restaurant was officially closed, Paolo "whipped us up" some bruschetta and gnochi...outstanding! He made us feel that he had been waiting for us with a meal specially prepared. We left with a basket of heirloom tomatoes from his garden and grapes from the pergola over the terrace.
Fortified with the confidence of several days driving on the mountain roads we returned to Bella Vista for dinner. The view was even more spectacular as the sun set over the mountains and the lights of Milan started to twinkle. We sat on the terrace, enjoying our prosecco, marvelling at the view and listened to the bells of the nearby church.
We had the braised veal, which I think is somewhat of a speciality. As with everything we had at Bella Vista, it was excellent.
In a country known for great food, for us, Bella Vista will remain a most memorable experience.
