“hiking for 2 or 3 days”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

It's a nice place for 2 or 3 single days of hiking but don't go there on weekends or chinese public holidays. It's overcrowded on those days with "traffic jams at the narrow stairs and ladders. Some people go there with sunday shoes or high heels and stuck on the steep stairs. The scenery is absolutly beautiful but there is a lot rubbish everywhere which gives it all a sad look. But nevertheless it is worse a trip if you are used to mainland China.
From Guangzhou take the Highspeedtrain to Shaoguan than by bus or Taxi to Shaoguan East station which is the main station for regular trains and from there there are busses to Danxiashan every few minutes. When you arrive at the gate you need to buy a ticket first. The ticket counter is not at the gate, so they will send you back to another building about 200m away to buy them. The tickets are valid for all three parts of the park one entry each for I think 1 week. When you go back there will be many "black Taxi's" The drivers will ask for 20RMB to Shaoguan. It's o.k. but they will fill up there car with other tourist untill they go. It could take a little, better take the bus back. I'm happy that I went there but I wouldn't go a second time.

“Mount Danxia 丹霞山”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Mount Danxia (丹霞山) is a scenic spot near Shaoguan city, which is located at the north of Guangdong province in China. It is a famous UNESCO geopark of China. Its reddish stone and stones of different special shape (like lying lady hill, male penis rock, kuanyin rock) are the main attractions to tourists. To take boat trip in the river can see the rocks at a closer distance. You may also go up to mountain top by taking cable car. It is a nice and memorable experience to visit Mount Danxia.

“Danxia mountain Shaoguan, Guangdong”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

The sign on the road calls Danxia the "Grand Canyon of Guangdong". That claim is a stretch but it was still an interesting visit.

The admission fee is 100 rmb for a two day pass. The park is divided in to 3 zones (a new zone is under construction) and there is a fair bit of hiking involved so a 2 day pass is necessary to see the entire park.

The main attraction is undoubtedly the penis hill and its front and center on the admission card. We also took the cable car ride to get the elevated mountain range view but unfortunately it was a bit hazely that day so our pictures didn't come out clearly.

There is also a boat ride that looked interesting (mini Guilin?) but we didn't have enought time to catch it.

“The majestic Danxia Mountains near Shao Guan!”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

I wonder how can such amazing places be so hidden from such a vast majority of tourists outside of China! When I took a train trip to Shao Guan just to check out the high-speed trains from Guangzhou, I had no idea I was going to get so lucky. I saw the photos of the Danxia Mountains at the tourism office outside the train station at Shao Guan, and insisted on getting a hotel as close to the mountains. It was Danxia Villa Hotel, about 45 minutes on a taxi from the station. It was spectacular - surrounded by lakes and mountains!

Next morning, I just had to walk to the Danxia gate for the bus ride (everyone else had to commute an hour to get there) to the cable car terminal. The cable car ride up the mountain, through the clouds, was quite an experience. You could see the whole mountain range, with the rivers and lakes! Once you get on top, there are 2-3 different routes for a hike. I took the trail towards the Rudder Stone, only to get to the end and realize I can only get a clear view of the Rudder Stone from the ending point. But standing at the point was like floating in the clouds, with the majestic views of the Danxia range! An absolute must-see for mountain lovers. Next time, I want to go before sunrise to see the magical mist... wow!

“Nice park”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

Great place to visit if you are Guangzhou and don't have more than two days to travel out of the city. Take the bullet train from Guangzhou South railway station and you will arrive to Saoguan railway station in less than an hour. Then take a local bus (20 RMB) to Renhua. First they tried to put me on bus no. 22 and then connect somewhere but there is (at least in June 2012) a direct connection. Keep trying! The ticket (100RMB) is valid for two days which is not written in English in the office and this information is missing in most of the reviews. In the park there are three main hiking areas that are quite far from each other but between them operate carts that are for free. I definitely recommend to visit the Zhanglaofeng (Elder Peak) turist area and climb (not using the cable car). There is a few side tracks on the way up and make the effort visiting them. You can visit a beautiful Buddhist temple built in a cave and other nice places that you would miss using the cable car. Also, I recommend to visit the Yangyuanshan (Male Stone) Tourist Area and climb the peak. In general it was not as touristy as I thought it would be. I spend there two days and as far as I know I was the only from outside of China. No need to carry lots of water as almost every 10 minutes you will meet someone selling drinks and snacks on the track. Bring extra Tshirt and shorts as you will be sweating a lot. Good hiking sandals or boots should be worn although you will see locals walking in high-heals and smart-casual shoes :) Originally, I went there mainly to see the "male stone" but this place has much more to offer! It definitely exceeded my expectations.
