We visited this distillery as part of an island tour. Set in beautiful surroundings, it is easy to get around and see the attraction. The distillery has the last working waterwheel on the island. Tasting the various rums at the end of the tour was enjoyable!!! The gift shop was full of nice souvenirs including some locally produced coffee, purchased some for myself and it is delicious.

We were told that a visit to a distillery was a 'must do' while in Guadeloupe. This one was recommended by the hotel staff because it was not too far to drive and we would be able to visit the plantation and distillery on foot or on one of those little tourist trains.
We bought 2 tickets for the trains (11 Euros each) and spent about 25 - 30 minutes looking at empty crayfish ponds, some small fields of pineapple and coffee bushes and stopped for 5 minutes to admire the view over Ste Rose. The distillery boasts the last remaining water-wheel in the Caribbean (?) still used for producing cane juice, but try as we might it was hard to work up any enthusiasm for this place. The main purpose of the 'visitor centre' seemed to be a retail outlet selling coffee and sugar that could be bought cheaper at the local Dia supermarket. If you just want to buy some rum, that's fine, but forget the train and just have a wander round on foot while you're there.
Toilet facilities are poorly maintained.
