“OK hotel not the best with kid”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Room was nice and there was nice walk over the small lake near hotel. At Luosto ski resort there was good service to our kid 4 years old, but at the hotel not so good. There was only one play corner at bistro and staff of the hotel was´t polite to kids. Food was really good especially local fish. Sadly it was hard to find clean table and outlook of Bistro was't promising. There was great little restaurant near by hotel called Kerttuli, worth of visiting.

Room Tip: We were at new wing and there was very quiet and great views to Luosto.

With a 7 and 5 year old we decided this was the right year to do the Santa tour. After extensive research we decided to go with Canterbury Travel who were able to offer us a room in in the Luostotunturi hotel. the tour was managed marvellously well from arriving at Gatwick Airport, staff were already helping tp get the kids in festive mood.
Each activity was well organised and the planning and communication around it, well executed.
The hotel was simple but clean and well maintained. The food was simple but of a reasonably good quality but then you are not going for the culenary experience. Highly recommended tour operator and well run tour

Took our 7 year old to Lapland with Canterbury Travel on 4 day trip to find Santa. A fabulous time was had on our trip which was well worth every penny to see our sons face when he found and met the real Santa!
The only downside of the hotel was the food which let them down, a poor show of options at both breakfast and evening meal, the food was luke warm, no hot plates, no decent deserts and considering the hotel was full of children, if they wanted ice cream for desert you had to pay for it separately and at 5 Euros a scoop this was a bit steep!
The room were basic but warm and comfortable.
During the day Canterbury Travels staff provided the lunch sat what ever venue you ended up at at this food was really good, hot and tasty, which was what was required when you were out all day in temperatures of -22 degrees!

The positives: large, spacious rooms, welcoming common areas, very good breakfast, helpful reception staff.
The negatives: Restaurant staff during the buffet dinner often disregarded empty plates in front of patrons, even though the restaurant was never busy. In addition, rooms are cleaned 'on demand' by leaving a note on the door handle. However even when we left the note, the bathroom floor remained dirty, the glasses we had used were not cleaned/replaced and only the duvet was put back in place. The rest of the bed remained unmade. So while at check-in, the room is perfectly clean, the longer one's stay, the filthier one's room progressively becomes.

Back in January this year we rang Canterbury travel as they opened for they new year. The 4 day trip suited us over the weekend and seemed to offer the best value for money. There was a great deal of anticipation, and high expectations given the nature of the trip and its no small sum to play in the snow and see another old man dressed in red!.
We read with great interest the reviews from other parties, both for the day and the longer trips. Its difficult to know whats fair comment and whats the result of unrealistic expectations so its very much what you want out of the trip and for us, and it seemed for everyone on our trip, its was all about the children and giving them a magical experience.
We flew from Gatwick to Rovaniemi and right from the check In the experience began. Thompsons had decorated the the desks and the Crew on board were enthusiastic. The children were given little drawing packs and there were competitions for the best colouring in and a quiz.
On arrival at Rovaniemi you collected your luggage and there were three coaches waiting outside with CT staff guiding you. This was the only time you really saw any of the other coaches. CT planned it so well that you never saw anyone else at the events other than your party.
On board your family name was on the seats and you had these seats for the rest of your journey so you really got to know the other families around you.
We had a Fantastic guide 'Tyler' who was very funny and enthusiastic, explained how things were going to run and the logistics. En route we came across one of the elves who boarded the bus and kept us all entertained.
The journey takes about 90 minutes but goes quickly, Here you will learn 'The Search for Santa' song which will stay in your head for moths! The guide will see you individually and give you your accomodation details.
Just before arriving you pick up your snow gear. This is all very well organised with plenty of staff to help. all our gear fitted well except my wife who had two left feet, but i've always been saying that!.This is no problem because if you find something doesnt fit next to the hotel is a place where you can exchange anything.
The bus will drop you off at your accomodation. We stayed in one of the open plan log cabins which were just beautiful. Tight for space but really did make the scene. A foot of snow on the roof and a log fire just sets the scene. They are well equipped with a wet room and Sauna and also an drying cupboard to all your wet stuff. Logs for the fire are also provided.
The first night you just drop off your cases and try your snow gear for the first time and make your way to the hotel for dinner and drop off 'Your items'. You are allocated a table which is yours for the duration. The food, well this is what seemed to attract the most comments in the reviews. It is basic but these is lots of it and its tasty. plenty of choice for both children and adults and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Drinks are expensive 6 euros for a beer and 12 euros for a large wine
There are sledges for everyone to use which is a great what to get about.
Early start on Saturday 9am on the coach. We were split into Team 1 and 2 and the search for santa begins at different locations. We met some of the elves and visited their workshops, took reindeer sleigh rides, visited a reindeer farm and husky rides and also a blast on the snow mobiles. Splitting the coach in two meant that one party did one activity whilst the other did the other so no waiting around. Lunch is out on location and at each of the activities there is warm berry juice and a fire to keep you warm.
Finally back to the Elf bar for kids entertainment and adult refreshments then onto the hotel for dinner.
There are excursions available such as ski ot snowmobile safari's which can be purchased on site. to be honest though we were all shattered and soon after tea we retired to our cabin for a fire and hot chocolate before bed zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Day 3....Will we find Santa? another early start and a sing along before actually driving our own huskies. this is most exciting because we were the first trip of the days and the digs were like coiled springs. with a little instruction and a nod, i was blasting my family through a 4 km wooded track at great speed being pulled by these beautiful alaskan huskies. It was quite stunning and other than seeing the big man was probably the highlight of the trip.
The husky tour was quite smelly but very informative, lunch again on site before heading off to a secret location. THe bus cannot make it up the hill so Snow mobiles towing a sleigh takes you up to Santas house where you are taken as a family into the house.Mrs Claus shows you around and explains how she makes all the uniforms for the elves before going down a secret passage to see Santa
In a small room Santa has the childrens letters which my boys were just amazed at...'He actually has the letters we wrote him!" he gives them both the presents and you have the video and photo taken before leaving. Our only disapointment here was we didnt spent much time with him. We had hoped he might go through the childrens letters and chat with them a bit more..
There was also an oportunity for some more reindeer rides, the children have a go at a snowmobile on their own and the adults with a couple of laps on the larger machines.
Back to the resort with the chikdren beaming, more sing songs, some beers, entertainment and dinner. A surprise visit from Snowy Bowy, Tricky Dicky and Co as a goodbye before retiring to or cabin for a sauna and hot chocolate!
Day 4 and very sad indeed as this was our last day. A bit of a lay in and a later breakfast and time to squeeze in some proper sledging on the resorts ski slope.packed and cases outside, you leave all your snow gear in the big bags outside the cabin and just load your bags onto the waiting bus. Quick stop off at the Arctic Shopping centre before heading to the airport.
All in all a thoroughly well organised trip. All the staff were extreemley enthusiastic and the elves were amazing. We saw other canterbury coaches around but it was so well planned that you thought you were the only people there it was so relaxing, no queing or waiting around just superb.
CT have to be congratulated on thinking of just about everything to make this trip as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. A thoroughly Stunning trip.

Room Tip: Cabins are i think the ultimate experience. there is the option of a 2 or 3 bedroom cabin but they h...

We booked through Canterbury Travel for the Santa Experience. This part of the trip was fantastic, activities were great and the reps were funny/wonderful. We had a log cabin which was lovely, log fire, sauna and a fantastic drying cupboard. Snow suits and boots were provided which was a real help.. Staff lovely and accommodating. The only downside were the drinks were very expensive. Small beer 6 euros, bottle of Mateus wine 32 euros, luckily I put some gin in my bag, but buying tonic (canned drinks) was a mission. We were full board, the food wasn't fantastic. Continental breakfast ok, hot breakfast was awful, the eggs I'm sure had never even seen a chicken. Dinner was edible. For a few days I think you could get by. If you're in a cabin they do have kitchenettes, I would recommend taking some supplies with you in case you do get hungry. Meals in the restaurants are also expensive.

We just came back from this great resort.we stayed for four days in the hotel and everybody that worked there was very helpful and friendly. My daughter has special needs and she was well looked after by all the staff and there was always something for her to eat at breakfast and dinner. The hotel is so remote its like being on a different planet, the scenery is absolutely amazing. There is always something to do, reindeer riding, huskey riding, finding santa claus, sledging, skiing, ski mobiles. The holiday was organised by canterbury travel and our reps ( simon & frankie ) were fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel and travel company for a great experience.
