Description: Merridale is a delicious destination in Cowichan —an apple orchard, craft cider house, small batch distillery, and wedding and event venue. Our authentic Vancouver Island restaurant combines cider and spirit pairings with a farm to table inspired menu, and our artisan bakery crafts fresh baked goods made with our cider leaven in brick ovens. Savour house-made delicacies such as sausages, cured meats, salad dressings, breads, and pies - then pick some up at the farm store to take home! Enjoy a true island experience from your table on the covered deck overlooking the orchard and fresh herb and vegetable garden. Or join us for one of our special dinners – pizza nights with live music, mystery spirit cask dinners, and so much more.

First of all, lets set the record straight - I love and will continue to drink Meridale cider, but they should seriously rethink being in the restaurant business if they can't get better staff.

We visited the restaurant on July 30th, on a quiet Tuesday. The setting is lovely and the views from the restaurant are tranquil. The hostess and server on the other hand were indifferent, disorganized and inefficient. While we were quickly informed what was NOT available, nobody pointed to the specials that would have interested us, but were not discovered until much later. It took over 45 minutes for the food to arrive and in between the servers forgot to refill drinks or water and did not apologize or explain the delay. Every time we needed anything (including the bill) we had to hunt for our sever.

The food was mediocre and did not make up for the lack of service. The muscles were overly salty to a point that the broth was not consumable and the pizza dough, promised from the wood fired oven, had a cardboard like texture and seemed undercooked. The toppings were fresh and flavorful. The salad was fresh and had an excellent house made dressing, but after the wait we skipped dessert.

The cider cheered up some in our group, but not our designated driver who sat in-front of an empty water glass and vowed never to go back.

Berry cider was very good. Our liter of traditional ale was not very chilled. The eggplant and zucchini bruschetta was deliscious and so were the clams. Main course not so great. The pizza hardly had any cheese on both - the mushroom and margarita. Lamb burger lacked spice. When we asked for salt and pepper and Parmesan cheese they did not bring it.

This was our first stop after landing in Victoria and we weren't disappointed. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the view of the vineyard. There were six in our party and we choose a variety of foods. My husband had the mussels which he claimed were delicious. I had the portebello mushroom burger and it was great. The side salads were equally delicious. We had a flight of the cider samplings as well. It was a great meal. We would recommend it highly.

This was a milestone birhday for me, and one that my wife thoughtfully planned out weeks in advance, and made reservtions for it.

To the Owners.

To start: The hostess is in the wrong business. She did nothing to welcome us to the establishment, invite us in, or make us feel in any way we should even be there.

The food was good, what we did get. Unfortunately the main course was forgotten. Ergo, no desert...

The waitress, was a lovely person and the only saving grace

The estblishment was pre-occupied with a wedding that was scheduled later. We were booked, and paying good money for services you claimed to be able to offer, but did not. Chairs were being wisked away from our table as we ate. Rediculous

When my wife finally did complain, the manager on duty did not even show their face; leaving our waitress to try and handle something that was clearly a total breakdown in the whole system.

I work in the service industry dealing with customer service and satisfaction on a daily basis. This experience has left us flabergasted.

We tried the Scrumpy and apple juice, both excellent. The food was delicious, and home made. The pizza was excellent. Our waitress Melissa was very helpful. Our food was brought to our table in a timely manner. We enjoyed our meal so much, we made another reservation in just 2 days.
Thank you .
