Description: As you travel up or down Vancouver Island, stop in at our orchard bistro for lunch. Enjoy local cuisine, a large patio overlooking our orchard, and, of course, apple cider hand crafted just steps from the bistro's kitchen. Located in the middle of a working cider farm, this unique Vancouver Island restaurant combines cider pairings and seasonal menu items inspired by nearby Cowichan Valley farmers, vintners, and cheese-makers. The restaurant has two eating areas. You'll find the main room with its traditional fieldstone fireplace and spacious tables. The main restaurant also features a granite cider tasting bar - perfect for a cider and some conversation while your lunch is being prepared. Guests can also enjoy their meal on the large covered patio where you will find plenty of outdoor space to sit with friends, sip coffee, or sample ciders and local wines.

“Don't take a Group!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Went to the Cidery with a large group that was pre-booked. As soon as we arrived they started telling us that they didn't think there was enough food to go around. We ended up getting 2 1/2 platters of pizza (roughly 2 1/2 pizza's) for 14 people then were told that was it. While other tables got huge baskets of fresh bread we got som cinnamon buns to try to "fill us up". They charged us $20 a head & with roughly 65 people to say it politely They Made Some money off of our group. Did I mention we still had to pay for beverages? Would never recommend nor come again, which is sad because the grounds were beautiful!!!

“Great Location, View and Well Designed "Outside" Eating”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We were taken to the Pommerie at Merridale Cider Works to see the orchard (great low impact walk with information boards to make it more interesting), taste the cider and have lunch. On the advice of the woman at the tasting bar we did not do the tasting there but ordered the one on the table menu instead. That gave us one extra cider -- the sparking one -- to taste that is not offered at the tasting bar. We were 4 people and each of us had our favourite cider, nut we all agreed that the sparking was a good choice for that patio party where you want something instead of a Prosecco or champagne.
Our meals were well served, and quickly. The pizzas arrived piping hot and were full of flavour. The chicken pate was wonderfully smooth and came with enough bread and chutney to have all of the liver as it should be eaten. (In many restaurants, there is enough liver but not enough crackers or bread.)
I was a little disappointed with their maple pie dessert that was supposed to mimic a Quebec dish. I am from Quebec and it was a true tarte au sucre. The apple pie had flaky crust and a hot interior.
Finally, the dining location. As the title suggests, we were asked if we wanted to be outside, which we chose. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see how protected the "outside" dining area was. This meant fewer wasps (it is an apple orchard in September, after all). They have replaced what we were told were flimsy wind breaks with operable windows and the patio beams overhead support a plastic sheeting that keeps out the direct sun. The area, however, is so bright and airy that you feel like you are outside while really being almost totally enclosed.
The location is set up to handle groups and weddings as well as having a massage facility. The owners have taken an old farm orchard and turning it into a destination!

“Good Food, Good Service”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Again we visited the Ciderworks and had another good dinner. We have taken friends there twice lately and have not been disappointed. Benny is the Chef and takes pride in his creations in the outdoor kitchen and smoke oven.
The menu is basic and the food good. Not too much variety. Good deserts.
The atmosphere is great, overlooking the orchards.
