Description: Merridale is a delicious destination in Cowichan —an apple orchard, craft cider house, small batch distillery, and wedding and event venue. Our authentic Vancouver Island restaurant combines cider and spirit pairings with a farm to table inspired menu, and our artisan bakery crafts fresh baked goods made with our cider leaven in brick ovens. Savour house-made delicacies such as sausages, cured meats, salad dressings, breads, and pies - then pick some up at the farmhouse store to take home! Enjoy a true island experience from your table on the covered deck overlooking the orchard and fresh herb and vegetable garden. Or join us for one of our special dinners – pizza nights with live music, mystery spirit cask dinners, and so much more.

Merridale Cider has an outdoor oven. They make pizza and bake bread out there. Lunch might have been excellent but I was so distracted trying to eat sitting on a bench that I couldn't tell if anything was good. Even if it's a nice day choose to sit inside on a chair.

Yes, I said wine - not cider.

The Bistro at Merridale is currently running their "Field to Table Dinner" series every Saturday. Each evening features a selection of fodder from the Bistro, paired with local wines. This review is about the meal paired with fruit wines from Silverside Farm and Winery. Overall the meal was great and with portions definitely on the generous side. The pairing of fruit wine with the various courses was certainly something novel for most folks and it simply worked and worked well. The wines from Silverside had great depth and either complemented or contrasted enough with each course to add to the whole experience.

Hats off to Merridale to showcasing other local producers. If you get a chance to attend one of these event, the trip will be worth it. We'll be back when we can!
