“The best Struisbaai has to offer.”

The Mermaid Guesthouse ticks all the boxes - excellent service, good price, comfortable rooms, lots of small extra touches, sea-views that go on and on, a very gracious hostess and the best breakfast buffet you will find in the area. This is the one place to stay that we regularly recommend to visitors to the area. Oh, and don't forget the convenience of the free wi-fi.........

Nice nautical decor. Very helpful and friendly front desk. The breakfast was outstanding; the person who actually cooks your hot breakfast is a trained chef! This place was a very nice overnight stop during our drive along South Africa's coast. The only con: most the rooms are upstairs and the stairs are very steep, so it may be hard for someone who has difficulties climbing stairs or those with disabilities. There appeared to be rooms downstairs too though, however, we were perfectly fine being upstairs.

the decor is all seamans- style and the rooms are lovingly decorated in blue and white.
very friendly and helpfull reception!
breakfast was georgeous with buffet and also several warm breakfasts to choose from.
freshly baked muffins!
beach is 15min walk away.
struisbai seems a nicer place to stay than cape agalhus, its only 10min drive away.
When getting to struisbai from Capetown, DO drive via Bredasdorp (N2) as coming via the secondary roads east of struisbay is basically dust tracks all the way! nice and scenic but you cant go any faster than 50miles per hour, so it took as a good 5 hours from Cape Town.

Room Tip: upstairs room have very steep staircase to climb- dont know if they have any downstairs rooms. not s...

We were in a group of 10, touring South Africa on motorcycles, and stayed here for one night in early November 2012. We received a friendly welcome and wonderful hospitality from Carene and Christine. They provided a prearranged three-course dinner which was delicious and reasonably priced. Our sea-facing rooms were a good size; light and airy with a nice beach-house vibe. Breakfast was also very good. Would definitely stay here again when visiting the Cape Agulhas area – highly recommended.

The guesthouse has nice rooms with all basic requirements, The meals are fantastic: well presented and very tasty. Staff are friendly and exhibit really good hospitality. The guesthouse is a bit away from the beach but within walking distance.

Room Tip: If difficulty with stairs rather get a room downstairs

The guest house is the perfect place to visit Cape Aguhlas, but it's also a cosy, nice , comfortable place where to relax after a long drive. Everything is extremely clean and perfect. The bedrooms are light and big. MOreover the owner is a nice and friendly girl who helped us with some useful information. I would certainly recommend it. I spent only one night there but I would have stayed there for a longer period. The last but not the least the breakfast is the best I have ever had! A perfect English breakfast prepared for us according to our preferences. And there is also a safe parking for your car in front of the building. My family really appreciated our stay there as there is also a wi-fi connection and tv set.

I have been visiting Strusibaai as a Tour Guide for 6 years now and this Guest House is one of those guest Houses in the Western Cape that makes you feel like a home away from home. The hostess makes you feel special from the time you arrive. The breakfast is a fest and they have so many choices. The Lighthouse restaurant is highly recommended as the food has always been homely and so many choices
