“Perfect Mountain Retreat”
Reviewed June 19, 2014 via mobile

his rifugio is located in a tiny, historic village at the top of be mountain. It's a quick wall away from the rocca forte. The main reception has a two level restaurant with awesome views of the surrounding mountains. The room was cozy and the bed was super comfortable. Quite a relaxing place to stay. Most notable about our stay was the hospitality and information that Paulo provided. He shared maps, books, and recommended hiking routes that were extremely helpful during our visit. Thanks for everything Paolo!

This place is located in a deserted and ancient hilltop village. Just a short hike above is the famous castle Rocco Calascio. This castle is amazing and should not be missed if you are in the area. The B&B is very nice with comfortable beds and bathrooms. It is spread out among the village so you may need to walk a little bit to your room. We stayed in the hoopoe room and liked it a lot. We were able to have a wood burning fire in the evening which was cozy (although unnecessary as the room has heating). The only internet is in the main building where the restaurant is. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant. The food is typically local and very hardy. The breakfast was ample and good too. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here a lot. If you craze isolation this would be a perfect place for you. If you don't, then a night or two would be great too as you could see the castle and some of the other sights in the area. There is a lot of natural beauty to enjoy also.

The adventure starts once left the main road. Every turning is a new photographic landscape, but nothin g prepared me to what was next. The Rifugio is really like going back in time plus all the moder comforts and the kindness of the people running it. DO NOT miss Susanna's ricotta cheese cake after having wondered in and out and about the rocca all day. The stone it is made changes colour with the light. Then, when the darness comes, stuff yourself with a lovely board meat stewed in red wine. You will sleep like a baby at the local bakery or in any other room of the Rifugio; it is so silent, so restful.

The owners and their staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had the pleasure to stay in the special room with a whirl pool which had a wall mural painted by a local artist. There is a private terrace right in front of our secluded house which has two loungers for us to relax and enjoy the peaceful surrounding. The fantastic dinner next to the fireplace along with the stunning views over the mountain made this a memorable experience.

Susanna and Paolo, and family, were friends from the beginning of the stay. At half board the food and wine were good and the prices reasonable. Don't miss this experience. You will neither forget or regret your stay.

We didn't have the pleasure of staying here however we made the perilous mountain-road trip up to Rocca Calscio during our stay with my parents who swore we were in for a treat. They weren't wrong. This humble restaurant tucked up on the mountain was the best dining experience of our week in Italy. The service was personal and welcoming, we felt like we were guests in someone's home and not just punters.
The Wild Boar Stew was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth! Followed by the best Chocolate Tarte ever! So good we could have eaten it all again straight away! If I were to return to Italy again this would be my first stop!

This is our second time visiting this amazing place. The first time we were visiting because we were staying in a little town near Rocca Calascio and we decided that we must come back again.
We live in Rome so it is not too far away. Within 2 hours we at the Rifugio. Basically, the hotel bulid on an old medieval town so all the rooms are all with stone walls which is pretty cool.
Food was good and price average. Be prepare to pay eur30-eur35 per person for a full meal.
The best part of this place for me is not the hotel or the food. As a matter of fact I found the owner of the hotel which is a lady to be a bit snobbish.
It is the view...the amazing view from the top. There is actually a hiking path which you can walk to the next village which is about 10km away. Really beautiful place..and will certainly vsiti again.

Room Tip: Becareful with the parking there. There is no parking space near the hotel only pick up and drop off...
