“A fabulous holiday home with the most stunning views!”
Reviewed August 19, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

I would thoroughly recommend this property as it pretty much has everything you would want. The house was spotless on arrival and the welcome hamper was very welcome given our time of arrival.

There is plenty of space both inside and out - we were a group of 4 adults and 4 kids and we never felt on top of each other. The pool and the views from the terrace are just stunning! The kitchen is very well equipped and made self catering very straight forward. The local pizzeria is excellent too however! The owners kept us well informed throughout the booking process and provided us with lots of information about the house and the surrounding area which we found very helpful. The location is perfect with being a relatively short drive up into the mountains and to the beach. We were a little worried about not having air conditioning but the relatively cool air at night and the fans in the rooms worked just perfectly for us. The bedding and towels were changed halfway through our 2 week holiday.

We most definitely hope to book this house again in the future and would recommend this to our family and friends.

Delighted to hear you had such a wonderful holiday at Casa del Colle and visiting the surrounding area. The views from the terrace and the pool are just stunning as you say but impossible to photograph as many guests have tried to! Thank you for being such excellent guests and you are most welcome back at any time in the future.

“Unspoilt Italian heaven”

This is a truly superb villa in a very unspoilt and relatively unknown part of Italy. The house has clearly been built to a very high standard and in the most wonderful spot with panoramic views to the sea 20 miles away, over the nearby ancient hilltop town of Penne, and up to the Apennines behind. The pool is long, deep and very clean. The owners recommend trips to the local pizza restaurant (Stefano's, within walking distance), the nearby waterfall and wild swimming pool and up into the mountains to the weird and fabulous 'Little Tibet' area. We did all of theses things and none disappointed. One of the highlights we had not expected was the fact that, for an entire week, we did not hear another English voice. Never have we not wanted to leave a holiday so much! Truly deserving of an 'excellent' review.

“A little piece of Heaven”

This Casa del Colle is a beautifully designed Villa, with exceptional features and built to a very high specification indeed. It felt more like a luxurious home than a holiday let and we felt immediately relaxed.

The kitchen is superbly equipped, with every possible utensil and even home-grown olive oil; all of which made cooking a joy.

All the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms or should I say, "wet rooms" were a new, almost glamorous experience for me!

The Casa offers spacious, beautiful facilities, displaying an artistic yet homely flair,
We barely used the main sitting room, enjoying the hospitality of the large kitchen table, where the ten of us could enjoy our meals, chat and play the odd game of Scrabble on the few occasions when the weather was inclement.
The weather in the area was variable at this time of year; consequently the panoramic, captivating and majestic views were a joy and ever-changing in what they revealed to the eye.
We enjoyed many walks and excursions into the mountains, which were exhilarating. The wild flower display in the meadows of the Campo Imperatore were something magnificent to behold, along with the delights of the DIY barbecue on the plains, surrounded by a ring of snowy Matisse cut-out mountain tops; paradise!
We spotted Eidelweiss and Gentiane, Saffron crocus amongst a myriad of dazzling floral gems.

The swimming pool is a perfect size and was invigorating and from which
we enjoyed observing many an aerial display by the local wild birds.
The people of the area were a delight, so friendly and helpful and eating out was excellent value. The local Pizzeria in Conaprato is a must! On both our rather "happy" walks home up the hill we were treated to a magnificent fire-fly display, illuminating the bushes and trees like Christmas fairy lights! We had never seen anything like it before, a real joy.

I think that this is not an overly touristic region, thus the locals were actually very pleased to speak with us, even in our novice Italian!
I would definitely recommend this villa and the region, if you are a person who likes an authentic experience.

Thank you Pascale for writing such a comprehensive review of your stay at Casa del Colle. I loved reading about the wild flowers, birds and the fire-fly displays on your "happy" walks home!
You are quite right that the villa was built as a holiday home and not a holiday let but it is rather special for us to read that others clearly enjoy the local area, people and restaurants as much as we do.
Thanks again for being such wonderful guests and respecting the house.

“Luxury villa set in peaceful countryside with stunning views”

This wonderful villa comfortably accommodated the eight of us, was very well equipped - comfortable beds and a kitchen that had all you needed and was a joy to use. We never tired of the views from the villa from olive groves to the old town of Penne to the distant snow covered mountains. The swimming pool looked inviting and with the temperatures in the early 20's a couple of us dived in (and came out almost as fast!) ... needs another month to warm up! There are plenty of good restaurants locally with some good recommendations in the villa's book. Highlights for me were spending the day sourcing ingredients from the local shops in Penne and then taking my time to prepare a meal from the Ottolenghi cook book that was in the villa ... a luxury to cook without time pressures. The games of table football and snooker collapsed into side splitting laughter ... great friends in a wonderful villa set in a beautiful part of the world = brilliant holiday.

Thank you Simon for your helpful comments about your holiday. I have a vision of you walking around Penne sourcing ingredients for your receipts in Ottolenghi - a joy as you say to have the time to do this with such amazing fresh ingredients from the local fruit and vegetable market.
You were perfect guests and hope to see you again.

If you are someone looking for something extra from your holiday and you appreciate the finer things of life, then you will love this holiday house. Built and finished just last summer, It has been designed with every comfort in mind from the well equipped kitchen to the super, comfortable beds and fluffy bath sheets. We were a group of six adults enjoying a week here over the Easter weekend. The weather was variable but this house isn't weather dependent. There is plenty of space to be together or apart with two large reception rooms and a separate basement games room with table football and a pool table. There are board games and two bookcases full of an appealing selection of both fiction and non fiction. From inside the house the blue swimming pool winked enticingly set against a backdrop of rolling hills and olive groves with distant mountain views and would be wonderful on warm summer days.
Set up a private gravel road, high on a hill top just outside the small town of Penne this house will provide you with everything you need for a relaxing away from it all holiday.

Thank you Ann and delighted to read your review of your stay at Casa del Colle. We have tried to ensure a luxury experience for all from the bedding, fluffy towels, supremely comfortable beds to a fully equipped kitchen for guests who enjoy cooking with the amazing fresh local ingredients. The attention to detail has been so important in everything we have done at the villa.
So sorry you were not able to use the pool but in April it is such variable weather as the previous year, in April, the guests were swimming daily!
Thank you for being such positive guests and we do hope we can welcome you back sometime and that you can use the enticing pool!

“An incredible 5* luxury villa”

I'm not usually one for writing reviews but this house is truly stunning I just had to share our experience! Marion and Steve, the owners, have thought about every little detail. We were a large group and there was certainly enough space for everyone.

The bedrooms all have very comfortable beds with high quality white linen. We loved the fact that all the windows and doors have Mosquito screens you can pull across so there was no risk of being bitten at night! There was a lovely breeze and we all slept very well without the need to use the fans (which were in each bedroom). All the rooms were equipped with everything you could need - mirrors, chest of drawers, hair dryers etc. The main bathroom is incredible with a huge rainfall shower in a double height space. We felt like we were staying in a 5* luxury hotel with the huge fluffy white towels (extra towels were provided for the pool).

The living space suited us perfectly with a huge living, dining and kitchen area. There is another large reception room which we hardly used but I can imagine if you were coming during the cooler months you could enjoy another reception space and both areas had fires for the winter (not that we got to try them out in August!). The kitchen had everything you could need and more. It is clear the owners enjoy cooking! So often villas are not equipped to actually cook in but we had great enjoyment using this kitchen - sharp knives, a large caffatiere, loads of good quality pots and pans and even a microwave for those who are less keen on cooking! We enjoyed some amazing meals out during our stay but equally enjoyed cooking in the villa and sitting on the large terrace with the most spectacular panoramic view.

There was everything you could need for young children including two stokke high chairs, cot, travel cot, and even a pushchair, if you haven't brought your own. There were toys for the children to play with in the pool and we bought some extra ones in the local supermarket which were a great hit. There was a good selection of board games and DVDs for some evening entertainment. The games room in the basement was a very popular evening location with many a game of pool and table football being had!

The pool area was great with a large structure which provided shade throughout the day. There were loads of (really comfy) sun-loungers and reclining chairs around the pool - my husband took quite fancy to the rocking sun lounger and it was hard to get him out of it! I particularly enjoyed the outdoor sofa area were we enjoyed having an early evening wine and nibbles. The pool is a great size with plenty of space for those who want to play on inflatables or those of us who need to do a few lengths to work off all the amazing food. The spa jets in the steps were a lovely added bit of luxury as was the water fountain which was great on the back!

The local area has loads to offer and We enjoyed a few trips out during our stay (when we could drag ourselves away from the pool!). A trip up to Campo Impratore is a must and a great place to go for some cooler weather on a hot day. We have developed quite a taste for arrosticini. Penne is a lovely little town and we enjoyed several visits to the many lovely little bars for a morning coffee and pastry or an evening beer with snacks. On recommendation we ate in the restaurant in Piciano (lovely anti-pasta), Stephano's Pizzaria (just down the hill and great pizzas) and a simple restaurant called la Mugnaia where we feasted on pasta.

Having stayed in a great number of luxury holiday villas we can say without doubt this is the highest quality and most beautiful house in the most incredible stunning location we have every has the pleasure of visiting. We all look forward to a return visit to this beautiful house.

Casa del Colle is a wonderful house in a truly stunning position, with the dramatic mountains of the Gran Sasso on one side, the hill top town of Penne in the middle and the view of the Adriatic on the other. The house is large and modern, and finished to a very high standard. No expense has been spared! Polished granite floors, high specification kitchen, and luxurious wet rooms, not to mention the games room in the basement. The pool is large with plenty of space around it to soak up the sun and relax. The guide book, that came with the house was very informative, and gave places to visit as well as a selection of excellent restaurants, although Stephanos, down the road was very hard to beat. The house is in a beautiful area, although much of it is largely untouched by tourism, and you get a sense of the real Italy, and offers great value for money. This has to be the best villa we have rented and offered a perfect base from which to explore, we will definitely be coming back
