If I could only pick one place to stay in Italy (which was my situation) I would pick Via Piana in Pescosolido. It is an ideal location for many reasons. I was initially attracted to it because it was only two hours from Rome and Naples. As a young Latin teacher, I prized the opportunity to visit the ancient sites (Rome, Pompeii, National Archaelogical Museum of Naples) while also having somewhere safe and peaceful to return to at the end of my adventures. The bus service from nearby Sora to Rome is frequent and reliable, and the schedule is very well explained by signs at Via Piana.

After staying there for almost two weeks, however, I discovered that the location is truly ideal in and of itself. It would be hard to find such a naturally beautiful slice of Italy anywhere else. At Via Piana you are literally at the foot of the Apennine Mountains. A look off the terrace or out of almost any window offers a view of the mountains sweeping straight up to the sky. There are clear lakes to swim in and waterfalls to hike to. I also got to take advantage of one of the horseback rides offered by the B&B and experience the area in completely different wonderful way. We rode through the mountains to a castle in nearby Abruzzo National Park. Really, there is so much to do in the area, I hardly had time to go elsewhere. I did not want to leave!

Along with all the benefits of rural Italy, Via Piana also offers the comforts of home. There is free wireless available for all the guests, a kitchen for everyone’s use, and a completely considerate hostess, Anna. l could tell that she really wanted me and the other guests to enjoy ourselves, and took time out of her day to drive us to local spots like the lake, the store, and the pizzeria. It was the perfect touch.

A lot of things have already been said about this place but I want to emphasize: Beautiful countryside, beautiful people, attentive and friendly service. Anna was great, very approachable and responsive, always with a smile. Our room was spacious, had a great view of Sora and the valley below. Electricity in the room, hot water in the common shower, and storage for our bags, charming old windows and doors, rustic accents and decor everywhere. This place is intentionally minimalist, authentic to its surroundings and history and a refreshing change of pace from Rome or other big tourist centers. NOT a plush B&B for those used to being spoiled. Keep moving until you see a Hilton. This IS, however, a treat for travel-weary backpackers or families looking for the authentic Italian country experience.
Walk everywhere and experience the slow pace of the countryside firsthand. Within 20 minutes you can be at the Italian Farmstay and playing with farm animals, picking fresh fruit from their trees and swapping travel stories with other foreigners or volunteers. Local points of interest are easily accessible via bus which Anna will help you navigate with timetables, maps, and personal experience.
We had a great time and will be back!

Via Piana is an extraordinary place, well worth the small amount of money they charge. The rooms are simple, fresh, spacious, and clean, painted in beautiful colors, with bright blankets, and rustic restored furniture. The project the owners have taken on, restoring and refurbishing this bed and breakfast, is impressive. As a guest, you will witness how hard they work- cleaning, sanding, painting- chipping away and turning wonderful old buildings into interesting and enlivened spaces for guests to enjoy the rolling hills and sunsets of the area. There is one modest bathroom- which is kept clean- to share amongst sometimes many people. I would recommend bringing shoes you can wear into the shower, as it is just a drain in the tiled bathroom floor. All guests are served a pleasant breakfast at their leisure between 8-10 am. The bed and breakfast manager, Anna, does her best to serve the type of breakfast guests prefer. Also, communal kitchen (clean and organized)- full of utensils, plates, and cookware- is available for all guests to use. There is free wifi, that works in the guest rooms and the dining room.

Besides the accommodation, the bed and breakfast is linked with a farmstay, just a 15 minute walk from Via Piana. There is always an international group of people to socialize with and many extra activities offered at small cost such as: Italian cooking classes, language courses, horseback riding, visiting the cheese-making shepard... and there are amazing places to hike, a castle and a waterfall! Via Piana has made maps of how to get to these places and offer great insight and directions on local lovely places to dine, within the villages nearby. There is a eclectic market on Thursdays and in the summer- many music festivals on any given night of the week. Anna (bed and breakfast manager), Antonello, and his family (farmstay owners) are extremely friendly, helpful, and in tune with their guests' needs and wants.

Yes! I recommend this hotel- for it is more than a hotel. It is a novel experience rooted in the art of its historical past, with charming antique character, and kind people (for a modest price).. all plopped in the middle of stunning backdrops.
Go...
visit this gem, and see for yourself.

Italy Country Stay is one of those places that make you feel as if you were meant to be nowhere else. The people are so welcoming, especially Anna, and the breakfasts she prepares in the mornings on the terrace are quite special. There are so many things to do to fit every agenda from hiking to horseback riding to just unwinding with a book and an incredible view on the terrace. This is genuinely the best place we stayed during our entire trip! I could not recommend it more highly and hope to visit again soon...

I loved my stay at Italy Country Stay. I traveled around France and Italy for three weeks in May and this was by far my favorite place. The staff is lovely and the place is charming. The B&B is affiliated with a larger place, Italy Farm Stay, which is down the road, so there are plenty of activities to participate in, like horseback riding, hiking, cooking classes, or going to watch a shepherd make cheese. Or you can just relax and take in the countryside. Not many tourists get to this part of Italy, so you get to really experience Italy here. Go to the market in town on Thursday. Try your Italian with the sweet neighbors. Like I said, I loved my stay there and I will always want to be back there in that moment.
