We held our wedding in Horetown last August and it was the most amazing weekend of our lives!!! Our guests were so impressed and at the time we thought they were just being polite but I have since heard from people who weren't even there, that they heard it was the best wedding anyone had attended. The food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble from coeliacs to vegetarians and small children, everyone was catered for. The gardens were amazing with bamboo, old roses and hydrangeas and lots of old trees perfect for natural photos, it's a really old country feel, we took all our photos on site.
We stayed for the weekend and had a barbeque and sumo suits on the Sunday which was great fun and such a relaxed way to spend time with our guests.
I am so glad we had our wedding in Horetown and I can't think of another venue that could compare with the level of personal service we were shown and the welcome our guests received-they are still talking about Bernie and her adventures (what happens in Horetown, stays in Horetown!!!)

We visited Horetown house in May 2011,our experience was awful and the level of service and attitude of management to our complaints was unacceptable. The reception we recieved was not what we expected and the service of our food was slow and lacked professionalism. The food was also of a very low standard and management were pushy with the wine expecting us to buy more ,pouring wine for guests witout even asking. We all left the venue with a bad feeling of having been very badly treated and WE would not reccomend to any body this Country house. Also rather damp and smelly and gardens are of an exceptionally low standard ,also very noisey with a man on a ride on cutting grass, who by the way was also very Rude to us

We had our wedding here, so we think its wonderful. The bedrooms are fabulous: spacious, beautifully decorated, and suited to their purpose. We had the bridal suite, our parents had double rooms, and the witnesses had a family suite with a separate interconnecting room for their young daughters. The reception rooms and hall were ideal for our purpose. We had tea and sambos for all as they arrived, then adjourned to the formal back room for the actual wedding ceremony, which of course was perfect.

Kate, the wedding coordinator, placed fresh flowers from the garden in all the rooms, and scattered rose petals in the room where the ceremony was held - it was a lovely touch and really added to the splendor of the venue.

After the ceremony we moved to the stone floored hallway for a champagne reception, while our harpist friend entertained us. Dinner was in the formal dining room, overlooking the garden. This seats up to 30, but we had 22 (thank to Icelandic volcano ash!) so it was very comfortable. There's a larger restaurant downstairs, but it was closed on our day so we had the house to ourselves. Food was perfect (three course meal), wine was great value, and we had our choice of music. We never felt rushed and spent about 2.5- 3 hours in the dining room enjoying our meal. We choose Horetown House because of the quality of the food and we were not disappointed! After dinner, we spread ourslves around the two reception rooms, and talked late into the night. We had the option to use the House sound system and so played our favourite CDs through the night.

Kate the wedding coordinator, Bernie the owner, and all the staff were on hand if needed and all our guests felt very comfortable and at home at all times. It was still a little chilly in May, so we had the benefit of two roaring fires in the reception rooms, and a bar open until late. The venue can cater for large and small weddings - for us, it was ideal for our group and we had the most wonderful day.

Breakfast the morning after is any time you want it. It felt ike home for the three days we stayed. The staff have that rare knack of being almost invisible and unobtrusive most of the time, yet appearing instantly when you need them. For a small, intimate wedding, I can't recommend Horetown House highly enough.

We had an amazing wedding day, both myself and my husband loved every minute and a lot of it was down to the venue, we were also very lucky with the weather. Horetown House is an amazing venue and it was great that we had the entire house exclusively for the weekend, it really felt like home. First of all I would like to start with the food, it was really really good and we have heard nothing but amazing comments from our friends and family. Having nice food was very important to us, and was one of the reasons we chose Horetown House, we were not disappointed! The chef was great, and had no problem with taking our favorite ingredients and creating delicious dishes. Secondly, Kate was great in that she just took over the colour scheme and provided the flowers for the centre pieces and for the rooms throughout the house, one less thing that we had to worry about. Thirdly, the day after the wedding we had a BBQ and again we have to say the food was amazing, everyone is still talking about it, especially the desert!!

Horetown accommodated us as much as they could in terms of how we wanted to have the band and dj set up and it created such a relaxed atmosphere for everyone. I would like to say a special thanks to Tom who was great, he stayed up until the early hours of both mornings and kept the bar open and always had a smile on his face, everyone loved him!

I did have a bit of an issue with the price of the bedrooms but I can see why they are charged at the rate they are, they are really luxurious and I can honestly say that the sheets are some of the nicest I have ever slept on and the rooms are so luxurious. But I can understand why it would put people off and it very nearly did put us off, but I am really glad it didn’t.

Just a small point but it would have been nice to have a bottle of champagne waiting for the bride and her party when we arrived in the room to get ready. Thankfully my sisters were organized and had two bottles ready to pop.

Overall I would definitely recommend Horetown House as a wedding venue if food, atmosphere and beautiful surroundings are important to you.

My wife and I attended a close friends wedding in Horetown House as evening guests. We were highly impressed with the venue as it echoed the charm of a bygone age. In horetown house we immediately felt relaxed and welcome as if we were friends dropping by for the evening. The staff are outstanding, while not being intrusive, were always there when required with an attitude of "nothing is a problem". All our friends and fellow guests were in agreement that Horetown House is a teriffic venue for a special occasion. We would recommend it for its charm, atmosphere, service and privacy.
The only criticism we would have is that there could be more directional signage from the main roads, however this aside we can say " Well done to all concerned."

From the moment we chose Horetown House as our venue to hold our special day, it was by far the most enjoyable and pleasurable experiences to plan with the help of the co-ordinator and owners of Horetown House. When we arrived at the manor to plan our day we were greeted to open lit fires in the drawing room, the serene, peaceful atmosphere we knew this venue was right for us. We were offered options to suit us, to accomodate us to the size of our wedding, including an unbelievable course selection for our meal. We were not restricted in any way when it came to deciding what we wanted on our menu. We were shown around the house, which we would have to ourselves on the day and we have to say we were in awe at the surroundings, from beautiful paintings, exquiste bedrooms and both the restaurant (for smaller weddings) and the cellar (for the larger wedding) were pristine. Communication with Kate was by far impeccable and as most of our questions to Kate could be done by email, we had a response practically on the day even though she would be unindated with emails and phone calls. The day itself was amazing, we arrived to red carpet and champagne, music chosen by us, meal was gourmet to our tastes with a kiddies menu tailored to our family and no hotel could beat the portion sizes! After the meal we retired to two drawing rooms for music and dancing and evening food arrived when it suited us. Bar extension and the manor to ourselves it was an unforgettable day. All family members including children stayed the night and everyone felt like lord and ladies of the manor in a very relaxed enviornment. Full Irish Breakfast whatever time we requested and then listening to the history from the owners in serene outdoors was excellent. If we were to plan again we would not change a thing about our perfect day. Horetown House is everything it says on the tin, 'historical, exquisite with a hint of finery'. We would recommend this choice to everyone who would like 'something different', but 'very very special' . Thank you so much Kate and to the owners and staff of Horetown House. Look forward to spending our Anniversaires at the Manor. Pauline & Dano O'Leary.

Was going to hold my wedding here in 2011 because its perfect for a small wedding. Recieved an information pack from the hotel weding co-ordinator and was resonably happy with prices etc. We arranged a visit with the wedding co-ordinator to go through some finer details. We were told at this meeting that we needed to book every room for the night of the wedding some of which are 420 euro per night, this info was not in the info pack but was not a problem as we were going to book out the hotel anyway. We felt though that if we did not book out the whole venue then we would not recieve the same standard of service. I was subsequently warned by another person about this problem as they had cancelled a weddding over it. We still decided to go ahead with the wedding as we felt we shouldnt judge the venue from one bad report. A few weeks later we decided to pay our deposit and contacted the wedding co-ordinator to go down later that day to pay. The exact words she gave us when we asked to call around later that day were "I'm here now" there was no effort to accomadate us. The feeling we got was as they sensed they had our buissness they did not have to treat us well any longer. I would totally recommend the building as a beautiful wedding venue but beware of the wedding co-ordinator.

I would just like to clarify a number of points in Ballinaboola's review.
Our brochure states " To guarantee exclusivity for your wedding, these 10 rooms must be confirmed when the date is booked for your wedding.
The Bridal Suite is complimentary on the night of the wedding and the remaining 9 rooms must be booked prior to the date of the wedding." We cater for weddings of 4 to 140 and if exclusivity is not required all rooms do not have to be booked but our service remains second to none regardless of size.

The €420 rate quoted by Ballinaboola is for our top room at peak season, the price currently quoted to couples is €2260 for 9 rooms bringing the single night rate to €251 per room B&B.

Horetown House is a 10 bedroom country house available as a private wedding venue but we do not operate a reception or have the house open outside of events, like traditional hotels. We understand this can be limiting for couples as it means they must contact us to arrange a meeting, all efforts are made to be as accommodating as possible to all our clients and perspective clients, however we only have one wedding coordinator and I cannot meet every request particularly at very short notice. Unfortunately it appears we did not meet this clients needs but we wish her the best of luck in her future planning.
