after a recommendation we visited Weirs bar in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath for some Saturday evening food.
The fillet steaks were excellent quality the best we have tasted in years and cooked exactly to our liking. Lovely turf fire burning to set a real warm country pub feeling and friendly helpful staff..
deserts are homemade and we shared a sticky toffee pudding,, scrumptious
a hidden gem well worth a visit.

We visited this Pub today after attending the friary and walking the nearby lake shore. We were recommended by the locals to visit Weirs pub for lunch. This place is really something special. It really is a hidden jem, its one of those pubs that on a wet rainy day like today it welcomed us with an open fire and great smiles from the staff. The owner even made time to come over and talk to us and told us a little history on the place and the area, his name is Pat a real gentleman. So we ordered some drinks and some lunch I got the fish (cod) and my partner got the burger, the portions were really big and we were stuffed. The fish was so fresh and beautifully cooked and all the food is sourced locally. There was also a great selection of food on the menu. We ended up staying hours sitting by the fire and having a couple of drinks, my partner tells me it was the best pint of Guinness he has had in a long time. This pub is a home away from home, the next time we are going to stay and have dinner and I hear the craic is mighty in the pub at night time.

Only read about this place by chance, so decided to try it out when we heard it had won awards.
Had never been to Multyfarnham before, even though we know Mullingar fairly well.

It seems like a very small village but the street was jammed with cars on the Sunday afternoon that we visited (despite bad weather). To access the restaurant, you walk through a small bar. The place was very busy & we were lucky to get a table without reservation.

Service was good, a few staff dealt with us and they made sure we were looked after the whole time. They were friendly & genuine, and seemed to care what we thought of the place.
We'd mushroom soup to start with homemade brown bread, very nice & not at all salty.

Then I'd the chicken fillet with apricot stuffing in a creamy sauce, while he had the beef & Yorkshire pudding. The portions were huge & came with plenty of extra veg. Unfortunately we'd no room for dessert!

Including 2 beers, the whole lot came to just over €40, really good value for a great feed. Would be a very relaxed place, no formality, but still great service & food. Families were comfortable there with young kids too, is busy enough that others wouldn't hear them.

The menu has a good selection, will definitely be back.

Stopped here for a family lunch on the way to Longford from Kilkenny. Food was top class, my wife had lovely cod and my tagliatelle was delicious. Service was pleasant and sitting beside the stove which was burning turf contributed to the lovely atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting again on our next trip to the midlands.
