The beauty of the grounds and living quarters were only surpassed by the gentle, gracious and kind hospitality of the Kelly's. I would recommend, make that insist, to any travelers of the Midlands they should make it a stopover they will always remember.

We had just arrived in Ireland by plane and could not have asked for a more peaceful place to stay our first night. Helen greeted us and immediately offered tea and fresh-made buns, still warm from the oven. The bedroom was spacious and bright with wonderful views and an incredibly good bed (beautiful linens). The bathroom was large and modern, also with a view. We enjoyed an excellent dinner with Helen and Christopher that evening - they are wonderful company - followed the next morning by a home-cooked breakfast. I've not eaten that much bread (baked by Helen) and butter in years. Helen graciously allowed me to follow her about as she tended to the animals and was happy to answer my numerous questions. Although we only stayed one night, there is plenty to do in the area, but most appealing of all is the total tranquility and peace of their beautiful farm. I could easily stay here a week.

The only complaint about our stay at Lough Bishop House is "it was just too short".
The natural beauty of the location instantly made us feel relaxed and the warm and pleasant welcom from both Helen and Christopher Kelly quickly made us feel at home.
During our stay we were made to feel part of the family enjoying healthy and tasty home cooking and comfortable and clean accomodation. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who were happy to offer advice on the local areas attractions and answer our many questions on their organic farm and rare Irish breeds of cattle and horses.
The location is perfect for access to local attractions including Tullynally Castle, Belvedere House and Gardens, Loughcrew Cairns and only an hours drive from Dublin.
We shall definitely be returning again to Lough Bishop House to take advantage of the hospitality and refresh our memories of the full Irish breakfast and home baked soda bread.

We found this remote farmhouse fairly easily, firstly with the aid of an AA Route and then the owners local instructions. When we arrived both Helen and Christopher greeted us at the door of this delightful property in the rural Midlands.
Our bedroom was immaculate with a lovely view. The downstairs lounge had a homely feel with attractive pictures, big sofas and family momentos. It was made perfect by a welcoming peat burning fire. It is the owners lounge too and they engaged with us tactfully and easily. Supper was first class on both evenings. Helen's cooking was just what was needed, with local produce and meat from the rare breed cattle raised on the farm. We were joined by Helen and Christopher for the meal and the feel was that of a pleasant dinner party.
After a final chat in the lounge we retired to our room content and passed a totally silent night, only to be woken next morning by the gentle creaking of the central heating system. It was then we could have done with basic tea making facilities. Still the excellent breakfast made amends with homemade preserves, bread and eggs from Helen's hens.
If you are keen to explore this unspoiled part of Ireland and stay in a tranquil and remote rural retreat look no further than Lough Bishop House

Helen and Christopher were warm, welcoming hosts in their beautiful country home. Their surrounding farm was magnificent, and we enjoyed walking through their pastures on the second (rather foggy) day.

Our room was large and very tidy, with a wonderful shower and beautiful stained glass window in the bathroom.

Breakfast was wonderful and (although Christopher didn't believe it) Helen's coffee was superb. A traditional hot Irish breakfast, along with fruits, cereals, and yogurts kept us full until evening!

The Kelly's Jack Russell terriers were a source of entertainment outdoors, while we enjoyed the idyllic surroundings. Christopher gave us some background on the farming operation, and Helen entertained us in the evening, in the sitting room. Her cheer and lust for life shows through in every aspect of the house, the farm, and her B&B.

The pictures of the residence BEFORE the renovation let you know this home was a LABOR OF LOVE, and it was such a joy to share it for the two short days we did.

I'd highly recommend The Lough Bishop House for travelers in Ireland who want to experience farm life there amidst a truly serene setting.

Charming location, house and host! We stayed here the 2nd & 3rd nights of our trip- unfortunately for the rest of the places we stayed- as nothing compared to Lough Bishop.

My wife and 10 year old son and I recently had the pleasure of ending our 12 day trip to Ireland with a 2-night stay at this wonderful B&B. After staying in the gamut of accommodations (from Hilton to "guesthouse" to authentic B&B) we had had a chance to sample the possibilities before we arrived.

After traversing narrow, windy, rural roads on the Ring of Kerry and other areas, and navigating the crowded bustling streets of Galway and Limerick, it was a relief to find ourselves in this beautifully restored old farmhouse, hosted by the Kellys who could not have been more welcoming and hospitable. Aside from their knowledge of the area and the fireside chats in the sitting room, we were enthralled by the place itself and in reviewing their photos of the extensive (to say the least!) restoration project.

The entire establishment was absolutely perfect. Lovingly decorated, clean and tidy, and beautifully restored, it was a great way to unwind before having to head into Dublin and fly back to Southern California. The breakfast was just right and their recommendations for things to do and see nearby were very helpful. Our son was especially enamored of the farm life all around us, the animals, the garden and the greenery in general.

We would highly recommend Lough Bishop House to anyone looking for an authentic B&B with owners who care deeply about being true hosts and a setting that is idyllic and widely undiscovered. A delight!
