Carrick-on-Suir has the only Tudor castle in Ireland. It is currently undergoing renovation and is closed for the summer of 2015. If you are visiting Carrick, this is a must see. The guided tour was very small money and well worth the couple of €, it is not known at this time if the price will change. The tour is very informative and the castle is very well preserved with its beautiful location on the river Suir

I checked with Trip Advisor and noted that someone visited on the 12th - the official website for the castle states that it will be closed for rennovations in 2015. Spent 40 minutes driving all the way there on 17th November 2014 to find that it is now closed and undergoing works. Very disappointed. No indication of when it would re-open but looked like quite long term works.

Fascinating and amazing history. I've been here a few times and it's better seeing it with a tour guide, so if you have to wait for one, then do wait!
Off the beaten path for sure - unfortunately not popular enough. Interesting. Unique. Well preserved. Beautiful Tudor castle.

A must see and off the beaten path old mansion. Apparently queen elisabeth met one of the Butlers here and rumours have it that she had an affair with him!
