“Lovely and peaceful”

Quiet spot away from the city madness, very warm and comfortable with all the facilities. Only a short drive away from the shops, and some magnificent scenery on the doorstep. We were really grateful with the service provided to us as the manager meet us at a nearby town so we could follow her out. Not many people would do this. We were also amazed at how eco friendly this centre was, with little notes by light switches to tell you to turn them off! Really makes u think about how much power and water we waste though! Would recommend this centre to all travellers, especially to families.

We booked out the whole centre for our weekend course/retreat in March 2012, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The hall has a lovely open fire, the self-catering kitchen is well stocked, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff are friendly and helpful! There was a slight damp smell in my room but the staff helped with this and were very flexible with everything.

We hired bicycles on our last evening and cycled right up into the mountains. It is very close to beautiful trails for cycling and long walks, and gorgeous beaches are just a short drive away (or a longer cycle).

The only real drawback is accessibility for anybody without a car. The nearest shop in is in the village, at least 1 hour's walk away (don't believe anybody who tells you it's less!!). Public transport connections to the village are poor, with a very infrequent bus service taking several hours from the airport. However, this makes the location very peaceful, and for anybody with a car the distances shouldn't be a problem. Bicycles can be hired from the centre making the village, beaches and mountains just a short ride away.

The gardens are lovely, the centre has a brilliant environmental ethos, and they really seem to want to know if there's anything they can improve. I really couldn't have enjoyed my stay more - thank you!

Room Tip: There are a range of rooms of varying sizes, and all seemed to be lovely. I have a large extended f...

Stayed here in March 09 and several times over last few years.

Good as a stopping off point to visit various locations in south Donegal, Leitrim and North Sligo. Driving distance to the busy town of Bundoran for example. Easiest if you've got a car to get there as it's away from most major roads, although it seems to be used by various ramblers and cycalists as well. Family room can sleep 6 in bunks.

Community run hostel, friendly staff. Shared kitchen also means that you get to have a chat with various fellow travellers.

Would suite anyone wanting to get away from crowds or with children as it's not usually too busy.

The four of us stayed at the Benwiskin Centre in early April for one night. We found the accommodation to be very good - very well stocked kitchen, lovely rooms and large common areas. We were really impressed to see the high level of recycling and sustainable practices that go on at the Centre - grey water systems, rubbish sorting facilities etc. This is definitely a draw for staying here.

My one complaint would be the distance out from any major town. It is close to Kinlough Village which has a small supermarket, but other than that it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. This would make it a great location for a school class camp or perhaps corporate teambuilding retreats, but not so good for holiday makers. As it was, we stayed there as a stopover on the way from Cork to Ennis. We would not have stayed there for any more than that.

Overall we had a pleasant stay and would reccommend the Benwiskin Centre if the reason for staying there was appropriate.
