“Perfect place for a nice relaxing holiday”
Reviewed May 8, 2008

We stayed in the main building and this was a very comfortable and welcoming place. Hosts are very friendly and accommodating. The house is beautiful and was exactly what we were looking for.

Having the beautiful sights of Sligo to see throughout the day and then coming back to relax after your outings was just perfect. I would recommend this place to everyone!

We had driven past Kingsfort in 2006 and thought it was so lovely that we planned to stay there sometime. Unfortunately illness got in the way but we finally got there for a weekend break in early April 2008. We were not disappointed- although the house had re-opened just that day and we were the only guests, the welcome we received was super: delicious coffee and home-made cake sitting by the turf fire, plenty of useful information and advice about what to do and where to eat. Our rooms were gorgeous- the beds were very comfortable, the bedlinen lovely and the decor very chic and what I imagine a french country house would be like. ( A lot different to the conditions provided for the poor souls who were forced to stay over when Kingsfort was the local Courthouse many years ago!!)

Next morning one would have thought the house was fully occupied such was the variety of the delicious food available for breakfast. I asked for a small "Full Irish" and got exactly the same as my husband's large plateful , with one egg instead of his two!! Our host Bernard said not to worry as his dog would polish off what I didn't eat but the dog didn't get any scraps as I ate it all!! The lovely french housekeeper Anne- Laure did a wonderful job!

The local area is very beautiful. We drove home through Dromahair and across "Lovely Leitrim" stopping off at various points to see the magnificent views across the lakes and mountains.

My only regret is that we had to get back home next day and we stayed at Kinsfort for only one night. We felt relaxed and refreshed and we are really looking forward to returning there later in the year. By that time the climbing plants and flowers will be in bloom and the house will look even more beautiful.

The atmosphere was charming, the gardens delightful. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. Though we declined a cooked breakffast, we enjoyed a lovely selection of mueselli, breads, fruit, etc. Bernard and his staff could not be more welcoming or accomodating. When we forgot to return our room key and phoned from Sligo, Bernard was only too willing to meet us there. Then, as though we'd caused him no inconvenience, he recommended a pub for lunch on our route to Doolin. We would be only too happy to return to the Kingsfort.

My partner and I stayed here for a 2 nights since we had a wedding down the road in Dromahair. It was absolutely perfect for this as was a comfortable, luxurious place to come back to, plus we had our own front door so didn't have the problem of having to check what time doors are locked etc. Was also good since they serve breakfast until 10, so you can still have a lie in and be down in time for a full Irish breakfast.
We arrived after a rainy journey, and were shown in and brought a pot of tea which was exactly what we felt like after a long drive. V comfortable room, and friendly service. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in this part of ireland.

  • Liked — Room had lots of character, and friendly service
  • Disliked — My bacon was cold one day at breakfast - that was only flaw!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a weekend away and had an excellent weekend.
Situated in Ballintogher, outside Sligo Town, we found it was quiet and peaceful enough for a relaxing break, but near enough to Sligo (about 10 mins drive) to nip in to town for some shopping or something to eat ( - Coach Lane restaurant was superb). The location is perfect for getting around the Sligo area.

We found the staff to be very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was very good. We didn't have dinner there, but the chef buy fresh food from a local market daily and is able to buy/cook to order, given sufficient notice. Even the owner, Bernard, stopped to chat and make sure everything was ok.

The rooms were the jewel in the crown for us though. While our room wasn't big, it was most definitely more cosy than cramped, and it was certainly very clean and very well kept. The beds were absolutely first class. Very comfortable, with fresh, white cotton sheets and covers. We both slept soundly and jokingly suggested taking the beds with us - souvenirs of course!!

In terms of value for money, we couldn't have asked for much more. €160 for two nights b&b for both of us, in such top drawer accommodation was much more than we could have imagined.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will almost certainly return.

We saw an ad in one of the national newspapers and had a look at Kingsfort's own website. Sounded appealing so booked a one night stay including dinner. Had some difficulty actually finding the place, partially due to the fact that Kingsfort Country House is in the middle of the village of Ballintogher.
Greeted on arrival by Erin and taken to our room. Most if not all of the furnishings in the house come from France, which is a refreshing change in Ireland. We had a drink by the roaring fire downstairs before going to dinner. The dining room was slightly on the chilly side but the food and friendly service both made up for it. And we were able to take our coffee by the fire and warm up again!
For breakfast the next morning there was a cold buffet with a variety of fruit and cereals, and several options for cooked breakfast.
We will definitely return for a longer stay.

Lovely accomodation but all the hot water ran out and some of our party could not have showers (this was after being at a wedding).
The Chef cooked us all breakfast both mornings there and it was totally under cooked and inedible.
