Positives:
1. The restaurant space is magnificent with decor that would put trendy western urban places to shame.
2. The staff are friendly charming and efficient
3. The guide provided by the hotel was the best I have seen. He gave us a fascinating insight into what is really going on in Rakhine State. He knows the history well too. Ask for Tunnewun, aka Newun (pronounced 'neigh one'). He has just been released from three years in prison for speaking his mind.
4. The boat journey from Sittwe was much more interesting and beautiful than the cruise we did on the Irrawaddy, but pack a few jumpers if you are traveling in December. The boat provided by the hotel is comfortable and the lunch on board was good.

Negatives:
1. The fittings in the bathroom were a bit cheap, but really, does this matter? This hotel is great!

A lovely hotel spread out over a large area with lotus filled ponds, gorgeous hotel boats and charming villas. The good is delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel can arrange everything from airport transfers in sittwe to chin village visits.

The rooms are large and private.

Beautiful place to stay after bike riding around all day looking at Pagoda's and Buddha's.
We loved Mrauk U so much.
It took us back in time and the locals warmed our hearts.
We enjoyed riding around on our bikes, getting lost and discovering pagodas off the beaten path. If that's what you would call the dirt roads.
The hotel was an oasis and worth the price.
The service is attentive and caring.
We received nice foot massages. I had a facial the following night and that was okay. My husband had a massage and there was a misunderstanding on how to put on "shorts" that were provided. Anyhow stick to the foot massages.
The food is good. We had cocktails prior to dinner and wine with our meal. Noodles were good, veggie dishes were yummy. We ate the traditional breakfast of Myanmar and enjoyed it very much. We did this every place we went bc there is a slight twist to everyone's which made it interesting and fun.
The rooms are great. Large, personal, good working shower, bath tub, 2 sinks, mosquito net, tables, chairs, laundry service, spacious and beautiful.
Enjoy!

This is probably the nicest hotel in the area so it might still be the best place to stay. That said, I don't think this region is worth the trip (1 hour flight from Yangon to Sittwe and then a 6 hour boat trip). Unless you've seen the other major areas of the country, I wouldn't prioritize Mrauk Oo.

OK, so the hotel is attractive and the staff is very nice and helpful. The food was above average, I was there for New Years Eve and they did a nice set meal. However, most meals take FOREVER to be served. A lunch for 2 people shouldn't take 2 hours. There really isn't anything to do at the hotel itself except book spa treatments. Maybe that's OK because you're out sightseeing, but if you're looking for hotel amenities then there isn't much going on. They do have bikes to rent.

The MAJOR issues:
1) There are bats. Bats were flying around the restaurant all night. I'm not a fan of bats so this got very unpleasant very quickly. The rooms also have big rafter space in the roofs and there are bats living there too. Our first room had bats squeaking and flapping their wings all night. We asked for a new room but this one also had a bat squeaking in our roof all night.
2) Half the rooms have bamboo coverings on the tin roofs. Half don't. If you have a room that doesn't have the covering prepare for a LOUD night of things hitting the roof.
3) The restaurant takes forever to serve food.
4) The bathroom in the rooms are terrible. The toilet area is TINY and uncomfortable. The shower is equally tiny and only part of the shower floor has tile, the rest is just rocks.

Overall, the hotel means well but it's just uncomfortable. I realize the hotel is invading nature but figure out a way to keep the bats out.

I had a great time at the Mrauk Oo Princess. Many positives - excellent customer service, (if you tell them something is wrong, they will fix it immediately, they welcome feedback), food is amazing especially if you love seafood (the chef is a gem), quiet and peaceful, rpersonally did not find the room spartan.
Not so positive - agree that it is the most expensive hotel in Mrauk Oo but it is resort compared to the other hotels/B&Bs. If you are looking for a relaxing stay, then this hotel will provide it. But if budget is a major concern, then you might want to skip it.
Hotel does organise activities for the guests so be sure to check them out. Highly recommend the sunrise activity!

All in all, Mrauk Oo is in a remote part of Myanmar and to get to Mrauk Oo, one needs to fly from Yangon to Sittwe (for the highly adventurous, the bus ride from Yangon to Mrauk Oo takes around 22 hours) and then by boat for about 6 hours (land transport is available but not the most comfortable). Mrauk Oo Princess has its own boats. Admittedly not the cheapest option but their boat is faster than the public boats, very comfortable with a sheltered upper deck for guests to sit and observe the surroundings. They serve beverages and 3-course meals on board (for the early morning ride back to Sittwe, we got breakfast and lunch served on board). They provide a pair of binoculars so you can look out for birds, dolphins, the villages along the way. Like another reviewer mentioned below, it is a relaxing boat journey where you can marvel at the beauty and scenery of the area. Bring along a book, the MP3 player and just chill.

Taking into consideration that reliable electricity and running hot and cold water were a luxury in this part of the world, we considered ourselves in hog heaven. The air conditioner worked very well and we had a nice mosquito net around our bed. The restaurant staff were lovely, once they learned what western standards were. We came there from Florida U.S.A. so culture shock was an understatement. They had a fantastic Spa and my wife and I took full advantage of it. Forget T.V. and the Internet because there are none. I was quite happy to leave after four nights there.

Room Tip: They are all individual cottages, so I think they may all have the same blueprint or floor plan.

Really sorry we stayed here and spent so much money on it. A big empty, expensive place built with poor materials, poor workmanship (we noted knotty pieces splashed with varnish for trim; wood poorly finished; cracks in plaster; sloppy painting) slight damp smell in cottage and on linens, high prices such as Internet $5 per hour versus 50 cents elsewhere in town; $40 for massage. Landscaping was neglected, though they seemed to bring in staff to weed around the time we were leaving.Used to include dinner in the price, but have discontinued that. Myanmar people are lovely, including those who serve you in this hotel, but this felt nothing like a privately owned, wonderful place. Great big cabins and flowers on the bed do not make a luxury accommodation. We booked through a travel agent and the hotel would not let us leave a day early ....they kept the money. We wanted out, so we just ate it. This is not the place to splurge. As it was nearly deserted when we were there, while other places in town were busy, we figure other people must have known somehow. Ignore the guidebooks on this one. Look for a locally owned accommodation.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.
