Description: The location of the restaurant is one of the most spectacular you'll find anywhere. It is right at water level and looks out to the glory of Desolation Sound. From the large patio, you can frequently see eagles soaring. The menu is local seafood, fresh vegetables and daily specials. There are home made desserts .The Cove is licensed to serve alcohol, so you can enjoy a bottle of wine with your meal, a glass of draft beer, or sip on one of our many cocktails or martini's. You will be delighted with the choices of expertly prepared food served with grace and friendliness.

This is an amazing restaurant that specializes in local seafood dishes created by an "international chef" who has chosen to live on Cortes Island as a life-style choice. Not much ambiance and decor but the patio seating on the deck overlooking the entrance to squirrel Cove makes up for it
The service is usually slow as the staff is rushed off their feet but the pricing makes up for it as shockingly inexpensive.

My partner and I and three friends have had several dining experiences at The Cove. We like to sit outside when the weather is fine and breathe in the beauty that surrounds this establishment. As locals, we really really want this restaurant to be successful! While the staff is friendly, the food well presented and on the whole flavourful and properly prepared several factors made our experiences there less than acceptable.

Twice we have had bad service, ie. no condiments after several requests, no eating utensils while the meal gets cold, beverages that did not arrive, napkins that were 'forgotten'. Obviously under staffed on occasion might explain this however this standard of service has now become my expectation of the staff. How sad.

Another thing that disturbed us was that there is no indication on the menu to indicate whether or not the seafood is from sustainable sources. Or what items on the menu were locally supplies. This surprised us given the current crises with world fish stocks. Responsibility lies with restaurant management to play their role in helping diners make choices that support the local fishing economy and We didn't go to The Cove to eat fish
imported from a thousand miles north.

The decor does not do justice to the cuisine! It is without any charm actually tacky! Especially the 'reserved' signs made from oyster shells glued together ! Yuk! Come on...you can do better! The wall art is for the most part okay, but ditch those white grotesque statue like images...they are scary and not at all in sync with fine dining!

Get it together, Cove. We hope this review helps you to gain some insight into how it goes down in your restaurant.

Traveling the coast of British Columbia last summer we stumbled across "The Cove Restaurant" on Cortes Island. Cortes it'self is a small isolated island in Desolation Sound and we were very supprised and delighted to find a restaurant nestled in Squirrel Cove on the North East side of the island. The menu was kid friendly and varied with it's local fresh seafood and exotic cusine. We tried the octopus cocktail which was a leap of faith because we had never tried one before but we were equally amused and impressed in both it's taste and presentation. We also had the local Albacore tuna which was dusted in seaweed and served rare, it melted in your mouth and was wonderful. The restaurant opens on to the large beach and the views of Desolation Sound are incrediable. It's definitely worth a visit if your on Cortes.
