Had a very disappointing experience in this hotel a few weeks ago.

The rooms were ok but no "wow" factor - had zero view
Leisure centre was very dark
For Spa treatments, we had to change in the pool changing rooms, which was poor

But the worst experience was with the included meal in our package, which was a 3 course meal in the bar.... initially told we didnt need to book, we came down at 8pm to find the bar was heaving, not a table to be had - after 20mins wait a table came free and just about got there before others waiting. 15 mins later no menus had arrived so had to get up and ask for them. Starter and Dessert were dreadful, main courses were fine. When we went to pay we were told the package wasnt for a-la-carte and we would have to pay the difference between the 2 - however at no stage was a set-menu shown to us. Naturally we refused and the manager was called, who said it was fine. The couple beside us at dinner sent back their steaks so it wasnt just us that had a bad experience.

On checkout the receptionist never asked us whether we enjoyed our stay, which is something which grates with me.

In summary, the previous night I had stayed in a 4 star in Co Down for the same price, and there was no comparison. This hotel could learn a lot from them. I would consider Ballyliffin lodge a 3 star at 4 star prices.

booked 4 rooms for a family occassion. a 4 star hotel without air conditioning is unthinkable........ the rooms very stuffy and so so warm. be warned if there is a function in the hotel you have absoutely no chance of sleeping if on the first floor before 3 am. the hotel consider that by advising you that there is a function in the hotel that justifies the noise. elderly guests and small children awake till 3am. bedroom may as well have been in the middle of the function room
breakfast was served in the smallest stuffiest dinning room i ever experienced. again i can only scream air conditioning.........

when making a complaint about the above received absoutely no satisfaction what so ever.

do not stay at this hotel if you expect confort and a night sleep.

so so disappointing for the money spent.......

We held our wedding here early July and have to say Breda, Colin and the whole team did a fab job. From start to finish things ran like clockwork, the food and service were outstanding. There's nothing I'd change about reception here at all.

The hotel is small, just 40 rooms and if there is a wedding here that you're not attending it will impact on your stay. That said if you can stay here out of season or during the week it's a lovely place to stay though a bit pricey. Pay that bit extra for a sea view.

Be warned though if you're staying here during warm weather there isn't any air conditioning and the rooms are warm.

The surrounding countryside is spectacular, wonderful beaches and nearby golf all make this hotel a lovely place to stay.

We have stayed at the hotel on a couple of occassions and cannot say a bad thing about the place. Rooms are a good size, toiletries in bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities and flat screen tv what more would you want after eating in either the bar or the restuarant. The food is great and if you feel up to it a walk to the beach will take only minutes.
We had a choice of venues in Donegal, Derry and Antrim for our wedding so after our first break there we booked it. On the day the staff were always at hand, and nothing was a problem. Our guests could not find fault with the hotel or the food which I must say was plentiful. You probably wonder was there a downside ? a little pricey but as they say you get what you pay for! and that is not going to stop us going to stay there again in a couple of months.

Booked this hotel and got super deal of 65E DDB. From the moment we arrived i could do nothing but praise the hotel and staff. Check in was friendly and quick, Rooms were well furnished and modern. Lunch in the bar was lovely. The 3 course meal in Mamie Pats bar in the eveing was the best food I have had in a long long time - extremely well presented and service fantastic. We had booked spa treatments for the next morning only to learn that we would not be taken at the same time, this was quickly rectified by the offer of a complimentary treatment while we waited on eachother. All in all fantastic break, would not hesitiate to return or to recommend to others.

This very clean and attractive hotel and spa is a must stay for Ballyliffin Golf. I stayed three nights and took advantage of hotel booked tee times at reduced rates. I visited one of the competitors in the area to sample some bar food and left immediately without ordering, counting my blessings that I made the right choice in booking Ballyliffing Lodge and Spa. County Donegal is an enjoyable and beautiful part of Ireland and my stay was superb.

Scanning down the reviews, in all honesty most of the complaints are picky and petty!!! We are having our wedding reception there next year and stayed for a night to make sure we hadn't made a mistake! Glad to say we hadn't, we stayed in a standard room, definitely up to a high standard. Food in the restaurant of really good quality, very god service and no complaints!
