Stayed at the hotel last week, the hotel is very nice, the location and setting lovely, but I was part of the wedding party and the food was very poor , pre heated and tasteless and the service not much better.

We stayed here for 2 nights last week, also on a Goupon deal. We paid an extra 50Euro for a room upgrade to a superior sea view room, well worth the extra money. The room (208) was lovely with a beautiful sea view, really comfortable super kingsize bed and a liitle sitting area. It was the best nights sleep we have ever had in any hotel, the room was so quiet.

The first thing we noticed about the hotel was how clean everywhere was and how friendly and welcoming all of the staff were, from the lovely receptionist to the waitng staff. All had a ready smile and it seemed that nothing was a bother to any of them.

We ate both evenings in Jack's Bar and found the food marvellous, the service great and the prices for a 4* Hotel very reasonable as were the drinks. The breakfasts were the best we have had in ANY hotel we have ever stayed in. Although it was a buffet, the chef was frequently out with fresh fried eggs, bacon etc. and there was a great choice of everything. I particularly liked the fresh fruit salad and wheaten bread.

The Doagh Famine Village is well worth a trip, it is so close. We found it great fun and enjoyed the organised tour, so informative and entertaining. The Safe House and the Ghost House were hilarious. Loved the complimentary tea/ coffee included in the entrance charge and the craic from the staff there.

Pollan Beach is a lovely short walk from the hotel and is so clean and quiet. It was nice to have a walk down there and a cold pint sitting outside the hotel on return!

We didn't use the Spa or pool because the weather was so nice but it did look fantastic.

We would definately recommend the Ballyliffin Lodge to anyone, we could not find any fault at all with the hotel and look forward to returning there soon. Hopefully the weather will be as nice next time! ( Hope that Groupon will do it again :)))

Room Tip: 208 was great.

My wife and I have just had a wonderful stay at the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Hotel. I bought a 2 night B&B break through Groupon.

On our arrival, the receptionist noticed that our booking was for a twin room. She instinctively knew that this was a mistake by the hotel and assured us that she would find a double room for us. Not only did she sort this out very quickly, but she give us one of their superior rooms with a sea view over Pollen Bay at no extra charge.

The room was very big with an extra large king size bed and single bed, ensuite bathroom with power shower, quality toiletries, a flat screen TV (with a good number of channels), a small table and 2 chairs, tea/coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, free wi-fi access, a trouser press and iron, a safe and mini bar. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable indeed with crisp cotton sheets.

We had a meal in the hotel on one of the nights and there was a good range of food on offer which can be ordered from 3 different menus. For example they do a 4 course for 25 euro per head but we ordered from the bar menu and although we intended to have 3 courses we could only manage a starter and mains each, so big were the portions. The food was excellent and along with a bottle of red wine, the bill came to just 44 euro for the two of us. Breakfast was a self service buffet and everything was perfectly cooked and hot. The sausages were especially nice.

We made use the swimming pool on our first evening and it was quite a good size, very clean and a nice temperature. The steam room and sauna were also very good.

Although there’s really not a lot in Ballyliffin itself, the hotel is perfectly situated for sightseeing around the Inishowen Peninsula. Doagh Famine Village is just a short distance from the hotel and is well worth the visit as is Glenevin Waterfall and Malin Head etc.

I really can’t fault anything about this hotel. The staff were professional and friendly, the food was excellent, the room was warm and clean as was the rest of the hotel and the bed was extremely comfy. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re thinking about visiting this part of Donegal then you won’t get much better than the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Hotel.

Room Tip: Superior rooms have a sea view over looking Pollen Beach.

Had Sunday lunch in this hotel and thought it was excellent, unfortunalely didnt have the same experience when I booked an overnite stay for my sister-in-laws birhday treat. Though I would be in a 'proper dining room' instead we were subjected to eating in a diner for want of a better description. Music was blaring, couldnt hear ourselves talk. Ordered wine with my meal and was having dessert when wine finally arrived. Same thing at breakfast - ordered coffee (twice) only to be served when i was getting ready to leave. Also, very disappointed with choice of menu for dinner (only allowed to order from a certain menu) felt i was being penalized for being a guest in the hotet. Would not recommend this hotel

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I am sorry your service in the restaurant was not what it should of been. All our diners have the option of our bar menu or restaurant menu depending on what type of package guests have booked they always have the option of upgrading if not on our restaurant package. We recently renovated our Restaurant and bar area for the better and it has proved extremely popular with guests and our locals. The segmentation allows for a separate dining area from the bar which works very well. I will pass your comments to the rest of the team and hope you will return to the hotel in the future. Best Regards

The hotel is in a lovely part of Donegal and is only a short walk from the beach which has a lovely play park. The hotel itself is smaller than I had imagined. The room was lovely and spacious with a sea view and had a large bathroom. It was very child-friendly and our two year old son really enjoyed himself and especially loved the pool which was a great size with a baby pool also. The only complaint I had about the pool was the temperature of the water. It was quite cold at times especially for young children. The bar in which we ate both nights was very busy but the staff were attentive. They catered well for children and our son enjoyed the food. They have a little play area off the bar which children can play in. We were warned before we booked that there was a wedding in the hotel. We asked to be placed in a quiet room but we could still hear some noise from the bass of the music from the bar but we were able to sleep. I wouldn't have been happy if we had been on the first floor as the music would have been louder.

The breakfast was good but I feel that they could have offered a larger continental range, eg, croissants or brioche. They only had sweet pasties on offer.

All in all we had a very enjoyable trip and we were pleased with our stay.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your kind review. I am delighted to hear you and your family enjoyed your stay here with us at the Lodge. We welcome all our junior guests here at the hotel and try and cater for their every need to ensure both parents and children have an enjoyable stay. Our children's pool is heated to the required temperature for children and for hygiene reasons cannot be any higher than this. We do have a wide range on offer for a continental breakfast from fresh fruit, yoghurt's,cereals fresh croissants and danishes available daily. I hope to welcome you back again soon. Best Wishes.

Stayed in the ballyliffin lodge this month, and I must say I really enjoyed it. I was upgraded free of charge, what a lovely room with a sea view. The staff were so nice and friendly. The pool was lovely and very clean. The food was good , but not brilliant. My only criticism was that I liked the restaurant better before they made it all one with the bar, not so nice now and very noisy.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room
