We had a horrendous time at Ballyliffin Lodge. Sold on the 'luxury' description and with 4 stars, thought it must be quite nice. We decided to get away for one night only for a relaxing night in Donegal. In short, it was a nightmare. We will never be back and I'd advise anyone thinking of going to Ballyliffin Lodge to think again.

We arrived to find the mini bar locked. We called reception and were asked to call back down to collect a key. Nice touch. The room was okay and Ballyliffin itself is a quaint part of beautiful Inishowen. We noticed there was a wedding taking place and thought nothing until later. The food was okay and the people were pleasant.

My main complaint was the noise. We spent between 2am and 5.30am wide awake, pacing the floor, pleading with the night porter to do something about the rabble downstairs. The wedding party was completely out of control. When we rang down, we were dismissed quickly and the Porter suggested he would 'try and calm things down'. Over 100 drunk people were roaring like football fans on the terraces. Frankly, it was a frightening experience and and we were appalled that a hotel that describes itself as 'luxury' seemed happy to let this behaviour continue well into early morning.

It was easily the worst night we have ever spent in any hotel anywhere in the world. Ballyliffin Lodge is a wedding hotel that promotes all day and all night drinking. We left feeling deeply offended, disappointed and extremely tired. When we checked out, the day manager seemed to suggest that the previous night's misadventure was "not even a bad wedding" which spoke volumes.

Suffice to say; we'll never be back. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, save your money. Stay well away.

Stayed three nights here with family and really enjoyed it. The hotel is beautiful in an amazing location with fabulous views and beaches. The food in the bar and Holly Tree restaurant excellent, only down side was the heat in the rooms at night- kept us awake mostly, air con is a must! leisure centre and spa excellent- would return

Stayed in a family room which consisted of a double bed, a single bed and a camp bed, a bit cramped to be honest but lovely room. The weather was absolutely fantastic but this wasn't ideal as the room was too warm at night to sleep. The cleaner immediately got us a fan when we commented on the heat in the room but unfortunately this just meant that instead of the heat keeping us awake the noise of the fan did . Definitely could be doing with air conditionning as the sloped roof in our room on the second floor tends to keep the heat in. On a more positive note the staff were very helpful, the food was excellant and very reasonably priced. The kids loved the pool and with the beach being so close they had a beach holiday as well. Stayed there four years ago at a wedding and was really looking forward to getting away from it all but wouldnt be in such a hurry back after this break.

would go back as a couple to relax but would not take kids as there is not much to do in the area, i would recommend one of the rooms with a balcony great view and extends the room slightly.Pool and changing area very clean as is the hotel. Do not book a meal on line in advance as the main restaraunt is not always open and you have to eat in the bar but the hotel did refund the difference when i complained

Dined in this establishment last week whilst passing through in the evening, the food was cold and completely bland, and the restaurant lacked atmosphere. Mediocre at best. Avoid

We stayed here in order to play the Ballyliffin golf course. The hotel is not anything special but is nice. There is a spa and I was looking forward to a jacuzzi but it was out of service. One in our party had a massage and liked it. The nearby golf is a good time. There isn't much in the town and we ate once at the hotel and it was good for dinner. Internet was in the lobby only.
