Just back from a two day break in the Strand Hotel Ballyliffin. Had been told before we went that the hotel was a bit tired and run down, and that a neighbouring hotel The Ballyliffin Lodge was much nicer. To our surprise the Strand Hotel was perfectly fine, it appears to have been redecorated throughout and is very bright and clean. The staff are simply the friendliest people ever, they couldn't do enough for you and were very helpful in giving directions to places of interest in the area. The food was excellent, very good portion sizes, and a good variety. The dining room has a beautiful view of Ballyliffin Strand. The breakfast was perfectly fine and suited my husband and i. A good choice of juices, cereals, fruits etc, including an ulster fry which was extremely good, and was made with good quality food. For the price we paid we were more than satisfied with the room we were given. Our room was very bright and clean and the ensuite bathroom was spotless. The Ballyliffin Lodge was more modern and very swish, but it was more than twice the price. As far as I am concerned we got a good warm clean bedroom, a power shower, good food and friendly staff for a heck of a lot less so we were very happy. I would certainly go back to the Strand Hotel in Ballyliffin, and would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends and family. I would also like to thank Martin and Ankush, for the kindness shown to us before we left. The woman who served us breakfast on the friday morning and the young girl who served us in the bar on Thursday evening. This is a really homely friendly place to spend some time in. Hope to be back soon.

Room Tip: if you ask for a room with a view of the beach you wake up every morning to a stunning view of ballyliffin strand. Unbeatable...

Stayed for a 2 night break in April. Staff couldn't have done more for us. Very accommodating. Comfortable rooms and beautiful food. Really resasonable price for food and drink. Handy to carndonagh for more pubs and sight seeing. Highly recommend it. Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights and were really disappointed. The part of the hotel we were in was cold and there was no hot water in the morning. The rooms are basic and many fittings were broken. Not what you would expect for 100 Euro a night. We were also bitten by insects during the night. Breakfast was a hit and miss affair with many listed things missing. This hotel has gone downhill so quickly that it is hard to believe. The reception area tended to be full of very badly behaved children. At the moment it is to be avoided.
