“LOVED IT”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

If you are thinking about staying here, DO IT! Lovely hotel, great setting, superb staff and fantastic food and drink.

The breakfast is fresh and there are quite a few options. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs with fresh baked brown bread and smoked salmon both mornings, while my boyfriend had the full Irish. The food served at the hotel is plentiful and well made. We also had the fish and chips from the bar and couldn't say enough about the quality. We spent both Friday and Saturday night in the bar and enjoyed the traditional music and talking with the barmen, owners and other patrons.

As for the area, although the weather was not super cooperative we headed out to Cruit Island on our first night at the hotel. Jason, the owner, went out of his way to provide us with detailed directions and we arrived just in time to watch and photograph the beautiful sunset. The beaches at Cruit are accessed by a winding road and a small trail so be prepared to hike in and out. The second day we headed out to Blue Flag beach with directions from the barman. The beach is lovely, easily accessible and very scenic. That night we headed back to Cruit Island to watch the tide come in and photograph the abandoned boats that rest there. The combination of the stormy weather and incoming tide made for some breathtaking waves. Couldn't get any photos due to the rain but would go again and hope for a storm just to be able to watch the show.

In summary, I can't say enough about the owner and staff at this hotel. It might not be the fanciest on earth but it may be the friendliest.

We had a great weekend at Caisleain Oir. The staff did everything within their power to make us welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and fresh, with a view over the bay. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and sourced locally. The portions were generous and despite having very healthy appetites, we struggled to eat all before us. We were keen to do some walking and with James' advice we headed for Cruit Island. As promised we were treated to spectacular views from wind-swept headlands and deserted beaches. We had booked our stay as a Groupon deal but had upgraded to a room with a sea view. This weekend was exceptional value for money. However, our positive stay would certainly encourage us to return to experience real Irish hospitality in a beautiful part of Donegal.

Just back from a few days at Caisleain Oir. I have stayed here before and it never stops to amaze me the friendliness of the staff, the quality of food and breathtaking views from the hotel! I would highly recommend Caisleain Oir to anyone looking for a few days away in Donegal.

From beginning to end, a lovely experience. Great Donegal hospitality. Beautiful food. Tidy and spacious room with view to die for over the bay...worth the extra euros. If you want a typical Irish welcome, great bar service, tasty food and a traditional Irish music session with outstanding local musicians, Neily Paddy Boyle and friends, look no further. Annagry, we will be back.

Caisleain Oir is definitely worth a visit either to stay or just as a place to enjoy excellent food. We have just returned from a two night stay and we would thoroughly recommend this hotel, so much so that we didn't want to leave. The staff and management were extremely attentive and friendly; the food was gorgeous; the view breathtaking and the craic brilliant. Will definitely be back!!!!!

Room Tip: A room overlooking the bay is a must!

A friendly, comfortable hotel with bar and restaurant open to the public. There is free WiFi but it was unreliable.

The menu is varied and the food was very appetising. There was live Irish traditional music on the Saturday evening which was enjoyable .

I've been several times now when in the area and it's reasonably priced for the area.

We've just came back from the most wonderful weekend away at Caisleain Oir Hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Donegal. Room was very clean and the view over the sea was breathtaking. Service and food in the restaurant and bar was excellent. Will definitely return!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room.
