“Great hotel for a good price”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

My husband and I have just returned from our three week stay in this hotel. We chose it because of the separate villas and the reasonable price for the stay over the new year. But now I can say that we would like to return again. The villas are very spacious - there is a living room with a small kitchen ( including a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee facilities), bedroom with air conditioning, satellite tv, two bathrooms - one with cold water only and one en-suite with both hot and cold water located outside. There are a shower and a bath there. Towels are changed every day, everything is very clean, housekeeping works well. The wardrobe is not very convenient as there are not enough shelves but it's manageable. A safe is available in the bedroom. There is also a balcony with a table and chairs - really nice to sit at in the evenings.
The gardens are beautiful, very well kept, everything is so green. And the pool is also very good and has a nice view. Pool towels are available.
It is possible to book a massage at the pool via the reception - the price is the same as in the massage salons but I think the quality is higher and, of course, it is more convenient.
The staff are friendly, English is not too good but understandable, everyone is very helpful. We have asked for an iron but they didn't have one. So they went to a shop and bought a tefal steam station just for us. That was very nice of them.
The breakfasts are bad. We only went two times in three weeks. It is easier to go and grab something in one of the cafes around the beach.
It takes about 15 min by motorbike to get to kata beach. Without a bike or a car it is impossible. By the way, there is a big car park next to the hotel or you can park your bike next to your villa.
Overall, we would recommend this hotel for couples and families who have already been to Thailand as the location is a bit remote.

Room Tip: A bike/car is an absolute must due to remote location

My boyfriend and I were delighted with the beautiful chalets here and the incredible views. My only complaint was the grossly overpriced breakfast. It was 600 baht for the two of us, about $20 CDN and consisted of pineapple, watermelon, coffee and toast. Almost anywhere else in Thailand this would have been 100 baht tops. A little disappointing but an otherwise great stay.

Chalong Chalet is a great place to relax. We spent the last 4 nights of our trip here and it was a great idea! If you want to be out of the busy, noisy areas of patong then it is great. The Chalets were very nice, modern and big. The outside shower and bath were excellent. The bed and bedding were so comfortable, I had my first solid nights sleep here out of the whole trip.
There must of only been about 10 people staying here the whole time we were there and because of the size of the place it felt like we were the only ones here the whole time. We had the pool to ourselves most of the time. As far as service from the hotel staff was concerned they were as helpful as they could be but spoke very little English. The people on the front check in desk were very, very hard to communicate with. Ordering room service was a struggle due to the communication barriers and for some reasons there's no menus in the room? So due to the struggle with communicating I had to walk down to the restaurant and order the food to the room that way, kind of defeats the purpose. I wouldn't stay here for an entire visit to Phuket as day trips can be expensive because you're out of the way a bit but I would highly recommend ending your trip to Thailand at this place and winding down before flying home. The value for the chalet was unbelievable.

The chalets are huge with 2 private balconies, kitchenette with full size fridge and a great living room. Heaps of parking, gardens are quite new but beatifully landscaped, they will be stunning in 2 years once established. The pool is a bit of a hike but the view over chalong bay more than makes up for it. Villas are well laid out with maximum privacy. TV was in the bedroom but there is a connection in the living area so we just moved it, no problem. Air-con only in bedroom but windows all round provide brilliant cross flow ventilation and there was a constant breeze. Best value for money I've found in 12 trips to Phuket. Free breakfast was dreadful with thai TV blaring in the restaurant and food dead ordinary, go elsewhere ... Wifi very hit and miss, could only connect about 20% of the time.
Staff were very good, unobtrusive, easy to find when needed, the lawnmowing that started at 8am on the weekend was a bit much but I guess it had to be done sometime ....

This was a fabulous place to stay. Chalet was lovely, very comfortable and well maintained. Outside shower and bathroom was fabulous, even in the rain. The layout of the complex has been very well planned with every chalet surrounded by greenery giving complete privacy.
Staff were very helpful. They did speak English and were most welcoming and did all they could to make our stay extremely enjoyable.
We didn't have our own transport so had to use taxis to get around. This was quite expensive but the cars were mostly new and the drivers were courteous and careful. We were aware of this prior to our arrival so knew that this would be the case.
The restaurant served lovely food and the chef was really lovely.
Gardens and surrounding areas are beautiful and very well kept. Also, the pool is gorgeous and whenever we went we were the only people there, bliss!
We would definitely return to this resort and recommend it to other travellers.

Reading the other [mixed] reviews on tripadvisor, it was not without some trepidation that we booked the Chalong Chalet. We have stayed in Chalong/Nai Harn and Rawai numerous times and have passed the property many times too so we new it was in a good position. But the reviews were not exactly glowing.

But we have to say that this is a real gem.

That's not to say it's for everyone. This is not a place to book if this is your first time in Phuket and you want to be among the action, close to a beach and don't have you own transport. Its true that the staff don't speak much english and don't fall over themselves carrying your bags to the room. But if you can get past that they are friendly and will do as much as they can to help.

What you get here is a basically a junior suite at about a 4 star hotel level for the price of a standard room. You have a large bedroom with king size bed, adjoining living room with kitchenette and two bathrooms, one outdoor with rain shower, and a patio and sitting area to boot. All this set in not overly densely developed grounds with a great pool (I don't get anyone saying its too small unless you want to swim Olympic laps). The views from the pool are fantastic. There is only one AC in the bedroom and they probably should have put one in the living room. But there is a strong fan and large windows which open so you should be able to get by.

We did not try the restaurant as we did believe the reviews that the food would not be that good. We have never seen anyone use it so the turnover of stock can't be that good. But we had our own transport and you are never far from great restaurant in Phuket. Even a great breakfast for less that the hotel would charge is only 3 minutes away (past Chalong roundabout near the pier for example).

This would be great for business people looking for short stays in the area or independent travelers who are mobile and looking for a bargin or maybe backpackers looking to splurge. Better than a boxy little room at a 5 star hotel on the west coast.

Good resort, just a little under managed and marketed.

Room Tip: Chalet 3 has good views from the terrace.

Friendly check in was followed by a choice of villas - all located in such a fashion as to provide seclusion from each other which allowed full use of the open air shower area. The generous uncluttered villa area (villa 12) with verandah overlooking the rubber plantation provided comfortable accommodation. The manicured gardens were a sight to behold and the pool area offers unobstructed views of Chalong Bay. Go hungry to breakfast that consists of made to order home-grown produce. All staff were friendly and polite. The location is ideal for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle found closer to the beach which can be easily accessed by the hotel shuttle (+/- 10 min).

Our only gripe was the lack of blackout for the bedroom (the sun gets up early in Thailand).

Room Tip: Enquire upon check in if it's possible to view a selection of available villas.
