Great spot , well presented rooms and excellent hosts.

We spent 3 nights and Grant gave us excellent pointers as to where to eat and places to visit.

Would definitely recommend it to fellow travellers.

After 6 splendid days sailing on Bay of Islands & keen for any average bed on terra firma, with no real travel plan we stumbled into Mangonui, did a quick recon of the town & accommodation on offer, we decided to give the Waterfront Motel a chance . What a rewarding choice & unexpected highlight to our holiday . Delia & Grant were absolutely wonderful, so friendly & welcoming . The room we chose was recently renovated, very tasteful with its nautical theme . Splendid panorama over the bay view from the living area & cosy comfy bed with fresh crisp linen . Well appointed for 1 night or an extended self contained holiday stop over . Our stay was further enhanced with an outstanding meal & breakfast at the Waterfront Cafe ideally located on the street below .

I stayed at the Waterfront Motel for just a night after a long day of hitch hiking. Wanted to move on to find a hostel until owner Delia showed me a room. It was the smallest, cheapest and newest room they had. It was an absolutely pretty place, clean with bathroom. And for me (I'm quite tall) a great view on Doubtless Bay and because I had a Skype appointment in the morning the for me very important and fast wireless Internet connection. Delia and her husband Grant could not have been nicer. A great addition to a smooth Kiwi experience.

Stayed for a night in the 'Whitu' apartment in April 2012, and was very impressed. The apartment was spacious, clean, bright and airy, and had a touch of character to it given that it's quite an old building. Two sets of doors opened onto a covered deck with a wonderful view of the waterfront. Truly lovely.

The apartment was also exceptionally well equipped with a dining area, lounge area, fully equipped kitchenette etc. The owner was friendly and helpful, the apartments had wireless internet access. And in addition to the great waterfront location, it's in the centre of Mangonui near to the shops and, most importantly, the famous fish shop.

Very highly recommended.

We stayed her in March 2012, for 3 nights, in the 'Whitu' apartment, and we loved it. The studio is much more spacious than it appears in the photos, and you have 2 sets of doors which open on to the 1st floor verandah - from there you can watch the world go by along the waterfront with an evening drink - or see the sun come up with a coffee and breakfast outside. The bed is large and comfortable, and there's also a sofa to curl up on with a book or to watch TV. Sasha has a wealth of local info, and was happy to make bookings for us on the Cape Reinga trip. We were also able to make use of the computer and internet in reception without any charge - our own laptop had broken and it was great to be able to make our final travel arrangements from there, including completing our online check in and printing boarding passes for our flight home. There's also free use of the laundry and drying facilities, which on a long holiday trip is a real bonus.

The apartments are conveniently located for all the Mangonui amenities - there's a small supermarket about 3 minutes walk away, and the famous fish & chip shop is only a couple of minutes further along the waterfront. Although Mangonui is only a small place it has bags of character and the Waterfront Motel has a lovely welcoming feel - the rooms have plenty of modern facilities but have kept many of the original features. We were at the end of our NZ trip, otherwise we would definitely have stayed longer at this beautiful little place.

We stayed in the "Tahi" apartment, and had friends staying in the "Whitu" apartment which was equally as charming! Both apartments exceeded our expectations with their size and character not to mention how immaculately clean. Sasha the manager is lovely and very passionate about Mangonui and the Far North. We thoroughly enjoyed all the meals downstairs at the Waterfront cafe. Mangonui was the best location to stay and see all the stunning wonders of the " real" Far North of New Zealand. Mangonui is an easy drive to Ahipara and Ninety Mile Beach, and also out to Karikari Pennisula and the gorgeous Matai Bay. If you are looking at exploring this beautiful jewel of an area, I would recommend doing it from Mangonui. After exploring all day a nice wine on the balcony over looking the bay was breathtaking

We stayed here for 2 nights, I wish it was longer! A beautiful 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the harbour, over 100 years old and really tastefully refurbished very recently. Kitchen with everything you'd need, bed comfortable and bed linen very plush! Even the slight tilt of the floor added to it's charm. Nice to sip wine on the little balcony whilst watching the goings-on in the evening... I'd highly recommend this place, but quietly.. I don't want everyone to know in case there's no room for me next time I come!! I'd also recommend talking to the local hero "Ozzie" at the Mangonui Hotel, a real war hero and a good talker - and then going for some delicious fish and chips at the "World Famous" Fish and Chip Shop further along the waterfront.

Room Tip: We stayed in "Tahi" apartment
